Finishing the cross-collar strangle (juji-jime) from half-guard without even passing: usually when you’re looking to attack from the top position, especially with a choke or a strangle, you first need to get past your partner’s defensive legs. This is because they keep you at a distance, elongating your arms, weakening your grips and generally making it difficult to exert the sort of force you need in order to be effective. That is, after all, the basic premise of the guard in BJJ. But there are always exceptions to the rule :) Here we look at a case when the beginning of the guard pass is enough to set the proper conditions for a very strong finish using the cross-collar strangle (or cross-choke)…without even passing the guard.
