Brilliant video. Remember these old DMUs on the Cross City line. I couldn't help notice how slow that train was going between Longbridge and Birmingham New Street. This still happens today. What was their excuse? Slippery rails? Congestion on the line? Nothing changes😂

I suspect the closeness of the stops would have held the speed down on a DMU, you only had about 7hp/ton on a typical DMU compared to today's electrics. That said I doubt the modern trains get up to much speed before they are braking for the next stop.

3:33 we dont normally see the cross country trains turn back at longbridge only the cross city trains turn back here

Northfield station has changed over the years back then they were no overhead wires and now 20 years later the overhead wires are here

nowadays Bromsgrove has become the new cross city line terminus some trains from the cross city line are climbing the lickey incline for the first time ever and of course the platforms one and two side of Barnt green sees the first train stop here since steam days of the 1950s

The same units that later went up to Scotland to work the Fife Circle services. I remember them from my childhood.

It was partly why they were extensively refurbished with new moquette and a deep clean, and a big mechanical overhaul, as they were going to have a longer period of service than the other Class 115 and 116 units which were intended for scrap. Until that is the 323s started having their problems!
