why it's called cross-country skiing?

I’ve always called it Nordic. But like cross country running which isn’t cross country it’s just long distance it’s a similar thing. On top of that Nordic (or cross country skiing) used to be a means of transportation in places like Norway and is still used in some places and there is so much snow and towns are small enough to not need vehicles to get around. History even points to it originating in Asia during the Stone Age possibly as a means of transportation. There’s a lot of history in there. But it was a way for people to travel cross country (you could say) when no other mode of transportation was available.

@@ethanibarra7089Nordic = free heel skiing. So both cross country and the downhill style telemark. All cross country skiing is Nordic skiing, but not all Nordic skiing is cross country skiing.
