Melissa's approach to dealing with Erol is very good, I think having her on him at this stage of his training is excellent. she doesnt take any crap off of him and is teaching him the two most important things a young horse needs to learn. An Attention Span and a Work Ethic.

OMG I have been watching you since before you bought Erol. I remember you going to the breeder and picking Erol. It was very emotional to see him do his first eventing show and he enjoyed every minute of it. He is an awesome horse but is going to be a phenomenal eventer when he fully matures mentally and physically. And what can you say about the King Zeb, awesome as usual. He did seem a bit bored with the height of the jumps, lol. ❤❤❤

Zen is such a confidence builder! Mic did not seem to need it but how wonderful is it to have a great event on a great horse. Erol was lovely. Yes there was one step back at the water but I don’t think he should have gotten the other penalty and really? He has improved so much that I’m calling it a win too!

Very impressive rounds Xcountry for both Erol and Zeb. I think they did Erol dirty saying he stopped at the jump out of the water, he was moving, it just wasn't fast moving. Not to worry, he'll show them next time. And then if that wasn't enough, we get a full sit comedy showing from your family, who are hilarious. What a great vid. Erol was great. After the water and his hop over the fence, he seemed to get his gallop going and was moving along. He's young and figuring it all out. He really has a nice gallop to him. It'll been fun to see what he's like in a year! Zeb was a champ! I think he wanted to be the pilot and let Mic enjoy the ride! She was did well on him and got him to listen to her. Erol did great! I agree with the questionable penalties, but regardless, he seemed really focused and as if he really got it at times. Great learning experience for him!! He seemed ready, and appropriately challenged. Congrats! A very good outing! 😊

Good job to both Melissa (who had her hands full trying to get Erol around both the SJ and the cross country), and to Micaela for great riding in her first SJ. Both ladies rode well in all three phases ! Zeb is clearly still LOVING jumping, but I’m not so sure about Erol…. Has anyone considered that he might just not enjoy jumping, and that perhaps he might be happier if you let him have a dressage career? Obviously, I’ve never ridden him, and I’m sure there are plenty of jump training sessions I haven’t seen. But from all the videos I HAVE seen, it often looks to me like he doesn’t really spook that much at the jumps now, he just doesn’t want to have to keep jumping. He goes if someone makes him, but I’m not sure he enjoys it. However, I could be totally off the mark, and he’s just acting green. It’s just the way Erol does things like screeching to a halt in the middle of a SJ round when he’d been jumping beautifully, and his reluctance to go over many of the cross country jumps (he doesn’t appear to be spooked by the actual jumps, he seems like he is just trying to avoid having to jump. Ash, have you had a vet out to see if maybe he’s got pain somewhere, which is exacerbated by jumping? I’m sure you’ve already thought of that, but wanted to throw it out anyway. I hope Erol continues to improve in his eventing career, and I’m sure you’ll change his career if need be. Great vlog again, love it when you are all together. ❤

Erol is at the beginning of his Eventing Career, so he's going to have some baby and green moments, what right have you got to tell Ashley what to do with her Horse? Why don't you concentrate on what's going on in your own life instead of telling someone you don't know what to do with THEIR Horse? I'm sure Ashley knows what's best for Erol, and doesn't need your input!!! Leave Ashley and Erol alone!!!

@@MissJools11I didn’t mean it in a rude way. I’m quite aware that Erol is at the beginning of his eventing career. I’ve watched ALL of Ashley’s videos at least once. I’ve also owned and competed many young horses myself, the majority of them being between 5-7. So trust me, I know about “baby issues”. I also know young horses can have pain which makes them not want to do certain things. Whether that be not wanting to do flying lead changes, bend to one side, or jump. I’ve had young horses who have been reluctant to do some of the examples I gave above, and that HAS been bc of something painful. An ill fitted saddle causing back pain (rectified by having a new saddle fitted), not having the best feet and needing to be shod differently. Heck, I leased a 5 year old once who already had some arthritic changes in his coffin bones AND in his stifles! Needless to say, after discovering those issues and having his painful joints injected/changing his shoeing/ giving him an Adequan blast/reducing his work schedule, the pain went away and he stopped having issues with flying lead changes and crow hopping on the back side of jumps. Of course horses also sometimes hurt themselves out in the field playing. Often the injury is mild and not immediately obvious to us as riders, or it starts as a mild injury and gets worse. At any rate, It’s been a minute since I watched this video (I was just looking at the comments before watching it for the second time), so I can’t recall why I thought that something might be off with Erol. Any time I make a comment (which is just an opinion; I never claim to be a vet), it’s always with the best of intentions for the horse. I’m NOT saying I know Ashley’s horses better than she does, and I’m not insulting the horse or his training. I know Ash takes great care of her horses (look at Zeb still competing at age 21! That takes good horse management!) I’m sorry that you’re so put out over a comment made with the horse’s well being in mind. One last thing; sometimes horses legitimately don’t like the career they are doing. (NOT saying that is the case here). I HAVE had horses who genuinely disliked jumping and were happier as dressage horses. I’ve also had it be the other way around. Again, I didn’t attack or insult anyone, so PLEASE chill out!
