Here it is Children of the screens CROSSED + 100 Volume 1. Just the story without any of my commentary. But please keep in mind that this is not meant to replace reading the book yourself as there are lots of character interactions and details that have been omitted for the sake of brevity. These videos work more as Cliff Notes to give you the basic plot and all the essential details of the story but I still highly recommend giving it a read yourselves. Here is a link where you can pick up this volume

Thanks for watching guys. On this volume this might be a little bit rougher because it wasn't something I was initially planning on doing with these videos but as I move forward covering other story arcs I will be planning ahead for condensing it down into the story only segments.

I think what makes this such an interesting setting is that you can have some of the standard zombie tropes while still making the infected a truly ever present threat with the fact that they can use cars and guns and in the case of Horsecock's group actually capable of prolonging the suffering of the non-infected, it's kind of the same reason why I think vampires need to go back to being treated as the monsters they are supposed to be and not what Twilight bastardized them to be which is sparkly "misunderstood" pretty boys with no actual intimidation to them

The funny thing is the giant majority of the vampires in Twilight are those monsters it's just those few families managed to rain in their instincts now to feed on animals instead which is a tremendous feat in a huge feat of willpower.

SPOILER ALERT you've been warned. A couple of thoughts. Infected were shown to be very masochistic so how can any conditioning work with nothing to punish them with? The only thing they hate is boring as shown in Wish you were here. Salt conditions them with electricity so I guess we have to assume electricity does make them feel uncomfortable? Inflicts pain in a non masochistic way? I wish this was at least addressed somehow in the comics so I'd know authors thought of the consistency. Another thing that bothers me is that it's very difficult to buy the successful infiltration. Spying for longer periods of time and not giving yourself away is very hard in human vs human setting, i.e. British vs Germans. But here we have an equivalent of a starving person infiltrating the food store where he can't touch anything, and living there for almost a generation. The self control should be superhuman like. On top of that they should be constantly cautious to not infect anybody by accident which is very easy, and do it without giving themselves away either. I guess nobody even imagining crossed can attempt to pass for a normal human is very helpful, but I still find the successful infiltration to be very improbable. It's not a plothole by any means just something I find hard to buy. Although it's a key to the whole plot and I absolutely love this plot so whatever.

A show would be really cool and could be done pretty interesting Lee in animation unfortunately I highly doubt that there's any Studio or entity whose capable of putting enough money into it to make it what it should be who also wouldn't be worried about the backlash from the public. Even something like Amazon I feel like would mandate that it be toned down quite a lot or would pass all together just because they don't want the controversy.

As cool as it would be, I can't see it working. They would have to change A LOT with the series. Sure, they could show *some* of the atrocities committed by the Crossed, but they'd still have to tone down just how frequent said atrocities are shown on screen. Some of their actions would NOT fly under any circumstances. I just finished reading "Crossed: Family Values" about a week ago, and there's no way in hell that they'd get away with half of what's in that story.

i like crossed but this one didn't hit it for me. there are so many bland parts that i didn't bother to read, i was just skimming through it. it feels like I'm watching an episode of the walking dead. also, the language that they speak which supposed to be because it changed in 100 years doesn't help. it kinda makes me question if I'm dyslexic. i know they went with the slow burn route as opposed to badlands which is composed of short stories but wish you were was also a slow burn but ironically, that was the one i like the most.

Crossed + 100 is one of my favorites out of the franchise but I do understand. I did an issue by issue proper review series on it and because I knew people had issues with it I did a whole other video just breaking down the use of language in the book. Thank you for watching and I'm glad I was able to make it enjoyable for you.

@@nerd_scum Oh no, you misunderstood me. I'm really liking the story, one of the best and most creative of the Crossed for sure. It's just that, the "language" used, even though it makes sense in the story's context, is very hard to read and understand, specially if English isn't your native language (my case). So keep the videos coming por favor!

Not in the immediate future but it is on the docket. Starting in the New Year I'm going to cover the Thin Red Line story arc, then go back and cover the original Garth Ennis volume and then Vol 2 and 3 of Crossed + 100. And then crossed + 100 and then act as well. When I started doing the cross videos I did plus 100 volume one because it's my favorite volume out of the entire franchise. But now that I'm starting to cover more of the franchise I want to try to go back and get the foundations out of the way before I can jump back into the sequel series and expanded material.

Can someone explain the thing with ostrech? What was the strategy with the ostrich?
@nerd_scum
@nerd_scum 3 жыл бұрын
The ostriches were stolen from one settlement and then snuck into the ostrich pins in the other in order to make settlement A think that settlement B was stealing their ostriches in order to create a divide between the two settlements where they would not be communicating and it would be therefore easier for the crossed to take one of the settlements. It The Sweep that the two settlements were planning would be more difficult forcing them to send their teams comprised of their best fighters farther out out. It ensures there would be no reinforcements and should have given them a larger window to continue their assault on the other settlement but Taylor going off to look for the crossed settlement in the mountains and not being there during the main attack did not figure into their plan. Allowing her and Cautious to make it to the other settlement and alert them to what had happened.

It's definitely a bit difficult to understand with the evolution of language that's at play. I had to read it a couple of times to really catch everything that was going on but once I was able to wrap my head around it I realize that it's the most complex of all of the stories with some of the best character development and world-building on display in the franchise. But again it's definitely hard to get past the language barrier and even then I'm definitely aware that it's not necessarily something that's going to be for everyone. I did an additional video which is in my Crossed playlist where I dissected the language that is used in the story and there are a couple of online glossaries that are extremely helpful. There are definitely far worse stories in the franchise (some of which I'm going to be covering pretty soon) and this one is worth the work but I but not everybody's going to want to have to do homework and essentially learning a second language just to get the full experience. This video is just the basic Bare Bones story but in my issue-by-issue reviews I do a more in-depth analysis as to the character relationship, world-building and overall development that makes the story so enriching. But as I said to each their own. If you don't like it you don't like it and there's nothing wrong with that.

It was also really helpful to me that I'm a big fan of Alan Moore and I've read several of his Works were his done similar things. Like his novel Jerusalem which I'll be frank there are still some passages of that book that I have not fully wrapped my head around because of the way that he handles the language at Play. You look at the page and it just looks like utter gibberish. You literally have to read it out loud and phonetically to understand what's actually being sad and then once you do you start noticing that the way that he's actually spelling these things isn't for their literal interpretation but for a thematic one in which he is making connections to other Concepts through the misspelling and compacting of different syllables and words. While at the same time using the pacing of his writing to invoke The rhythms of ancient druidic chants so that when you read it aloud there is a bizarre spiritual feeling that overtakes you. The dude really does operate on a completely different level not only from us his readers but from most writers as well. I love him and his work but it does often create a large barrier between him and his audience. Especially when most of us are just like: "Cool Alan Moore the guy who wrote Watchmen". Lol.
