Beginner DJ Tip - Active Loops

What’s crazy is how people really hate on the idea of what the DJ basically is and does now in 2023, but nobody would pay 100s of dollars for a concert ticket to watch somebody actually just press play on their album at a concert. There truly is a great performative aspect that comes with this and it’s nice that you’re sharing these tips with people. Alternatively, make a loop > when in the loop press a hotcue button > then, an orange loop hotcue should appear also indicated with an orange arrow symbol > on your laptop press the orange arrow so that it turns red. This way when the track is playing and arrives at the loop section, it will automatically play the loop. = “active loop”

That's how I do it. I set one up on every track incase I get distracted and the track runs short.

It’s fun to just loop off the cuff, you don’t have to set loops for each trak. I like to let traks play as they were made. You can over use effects, loops just because you can🎵🎵🎵🎵

serato is already setup to allow activating loops without triggering them. You can midimap that feature and choose any loop you have to be active

Could someone do a video in serato as just bought flx10 and I can't for the life of me get to to record an active loop. Everytime I press shift and for 4 active button no red arrow appears and the loop isn't there the next time I load the tune, very frustrating.

Heya :) I play mainly on traktor s5 with all my cue and loop points pre stored. On occasions when I want the outro loop to engage automatically I click shift + click the loop button to make it “active” so the forthcoming outro loop engages and loops WHEN it gets there. BUT I don’t always use this (sometimes I don’t want to engage and let the tune play out normally. I do this as I play live Roland drums while I dj and the less to worry about the better in the dj software. Problem is when I play pro gigs on the pioneer gear (if they don’t let me setup my controller and laptop ect) having this same function either using a usb analyzed with rekordbox or plugging in the CDJs in HID mode with a hub or performance mode + link just to have my laptop library as a “HD” full of my playlists and loops. I’ve seen how u “pre” program these active loops in your video, but is there a way to do it on the fly to turn the active on/off? Especially if just using usb and link mode as then there is no “rekordbox software” to edit the “active on/off” pre stored outro loops there on the cdj..? (I transfer all my traktor loops and cues and info to rekordbox via rekordbuddy)

I have a question around the Reloop/ 4 beat loop from DDJ 400. In the flx4, pioneer have abandoned the ‘long press IN’ to trigger a 4 beat loop and remapped that to the former reloop button. Is there any way we map the long press functionality to trigger a 4 beat loop to the FLX 4?
