I loved the way you explained the 5 drills. Very clear and straight to the point in each case. Thank you mate! Coming to a selection of the one I found most relevant…Drills nu,miner 4 & 5. Above all, number 5, getting a solid 10 track list and working on it be able to mix properly those songs that really match together.

Can I just damn! Number 5 is absolutely a must. I started doing this about 2 months ago but I'm gonna double down on this even more. I would love some more tips like number 5.

Drilling over the same loops and listening to tweaking of different parameters, that's what's on my practising mind. And as a piano learner I know focused repetition is the way to mastery of one skill at a time. As a beginner Dj I'll be doing Drill #2 and #5 FOR SURE! Thanks a lot!

Great video, recently bought a flx4 controller to start mixing and didn't have a clue where to start. Purchased the beginner and pro flx4 courses from Crossfader and within 2 months i already feel much more confident mixing thanks to the courses. Regularly practicing tip one to train my ears has helped massively i guess and i had already started tip 5 by organising small lists of tracks into what sounds good together into a mini set. Would highly recommend the courses for anyone who wants to start out mixing. 👍🏻

Great stuff here guys!! Being a drummer/musician since I was a kid gave me a little bit of a head start into the DJ world and I absolutely love it!! I totally agree with having little mini sets that work great together and having them stacked together in playlists. I usually practice for like 1 to 2 hours each night when I get home from work whether I have a DJ gig coming up or not. Just like being a musician there is always room to learn more. Never stop learning!

I like the last one, subconsciously been doing that a long time, many of my gigs are 8 hours so when you hit thay mental block dive off to these areas and hang out for a bit of you time for 15 minutes, no need to over think and an active break, in that space you have some new ideas then back off to the races in a different avenue

I was doing a fun exercise on the decks the other day with a mate where one of us picks the tracks and the other mixes without looking at the software. Really good if u have a B2B partner as it tests your song knowledge and u just gotta trust they’ve picked a good track. On 2 channels it’s probably not as good but 4 channels with DnB and its pretty fun. Plus I can fully practice song selection with the Camelot wheel in your head, or see how someone else mixes routines you’ve preplanned out.

I done something similar to this - There was 3 of us and we had a ~ 2 hour journey in a car - person in the back (also DJs) had my laptop picking songs and I had the decks in the passenger side hooked up to the cars Aux. First time I had DJ without relying on software in front of me or knowing the song choice coming up- was very difficult (especially with limited experience) but a lot of fun!

Honestly, the first and the last tips were the best. Your job as a DJ is to select the tracks that fit the mood of the dancefloor. To create an atmosphere larger than you. Those two tips help build the muscle memory and the less glamourous order for you to instantly create the atmosphere you need for a pumping dancefloor.

I have a question regarding CDJs and playlists. I use Serato so I’m used to having my crate of songs all in order for a set. I haven’t used a usb with the Rekordbox exported playlists (I hardly understand that part) so I’m wondering if the playlists are like that, or they’re organized only by name, etc? I couldn’t tell from different videos.

I'll give you a tip, you have a sync button, you are not better dj if you don't use it.
@marcusbinks26786 күн бұрын
Hey Jamie, With the finger drumming I noticed your acapella was exactly half the BPM of the looping drum part. Is there a rule/formula to get the BPMs right?
@kogpt-dash6 күн бұрын
Your content is fantastic, but why doesn’t your channel mention anything about music production? It’s obvious that in today’s scene, no one succeeds as a DJ without producing their own tracks, yet there’s hardly any content about production. Is this because of your values, business decisions, or staffing limitations?
@taco_enthusiast22 сағат бұрын
I've DJ vinyl at parties and clubs for over 25 years. Beat matching is, after song selection, the hardest part of DJing. Why then do today's DJs insist on manually beat matching when the "sync" button gets it right 97% of the time?? You don't carry your USB sticks in two 50lbs milk crates on the subway hoping you don't get robbed on your way to the gig like when we had to carry records. You don't tape quarters to the jog wheels to prevent them from skipping like a stylist. Why stick to antiquated beat matching? If you go through your grids in Rekordbox (or whatever app you use) you can fine tune the ones that are off and be good almost always. Sure, it's a skill to learn for those times when a track needs a little push or pull, but all the time?! Seems performative to me.

@Tom_31087 күн бұрын
With tip 1, why is this relevant if you can use sync button?
@TheEndorphene7 күн бұрын
Multiple reasons.. - some songs don't sync properly when you import them so will be out of sync if you use the sync button. - If you want gigs, you will be asked if you can beat match. You will need to be able to do this at least visually and preferably by ear of your want to perform live. - If there is an issue with the software or usually hardware or the ethernet connection cables on cdjs then you won't be able to sync. - It's also a thing that DJs have needed to be able to do since before everything was digital and there was no choice but to mix by ear. It's carried over into the digital age and it's like proof that you can meet a minimum standard if you like...
