I totally agree with this. I like the way it feels getting a good "mini-set" put aside to call on whenever it's time

Im a Dj with major ADHD and my library can cause me to overthink so much so for me the last advice --along with looping the intro and outro so you can work on EQs and creative filtering gave me life. Thank you !

I loved the way you explained the 5 drills. Very clear and straight to the point in each case. Thank you mate! Coming to a selection of the one I found most relevant…Drills nu,miner 4 & 5. Above all, number 5, getting a solid 10 track list and working on it be able to mix properly those songs that really match together.

the last one was the best ! Many thanks for your support ! and kind regards from Germany !

This is exactly what I needed, coming from a background of playing drums, I am used to rudiments and rigid practicing. So having drills like this is how I function in learning skills. No directions twards any genre in these, just plain skills than can be applied almost anywhere. Great Video!!!
@MatthewPradine7 күн бұрын
This was exactly the type of drills and explaining I needed. It's so easy to get overwhelmed with how many songs and functions there are on a controller. These drills will help me focus my energy a lot more. Great video
@tspinning16 сағат бұрын
Great practice drills, beat match practice + crossfader work is something I don't do enough. Will focus there and then mini-sets. Thanks!

Great video, recently bought a flx4 controller to start mixing and didn't have a clue where to start. Purchased the beginner and pro flx4 courses from Crossfader and within 2 months i already feel much more confident mixing thanks to the courses. Regularly practicing tip one to train my ears has helped massively i guess and i had already started tip 5 by organising small lists of tracks into what sounds good together into a mini set. Would highly recommend the courses for anyone who wants to start out mixing. 👍🏻

I don't think people grasp how important No 5 is, i remember i did a multi Dj performance a few months back, was practicing for a couple weeks, i had my tracklist set up and ready to go, on the day i decided to switch up and add a new release in which completely threw me off, thankfully it wasn't a major performance or anything but it highlights the importance of not trying to do too much! Great tips!

The last tip was great. I'm definitely going to try that approach to build blocks.

The playlist drill was super helpful! I have inherited about 3000+ tracks from an experienced dj friend of mine and that section makes it seem way more possible to make a playlist/set that works well.

Thank you so much !!! The way you explained everything and how to go about this craft has truly given me more of a path to follow down if I ever want to get better at my mixing. Thanks bro honestly.

Since I've been DJing for so long, I'm fortunate to have learned how to beat match back in the early 90's on turntables. These days, I use sync when I DJ weddings and I don't use it when I'm doing a House Music event with a crew of other fellow DJ's. For practice sessions, I tend to do quick mixing without sync - just to keep up my manual beat matching skills. However, I don't try it without looking at a beat grid. I will start practicing without the beat grid. Good stuff here! Thank you.
@jaygreenakajackstax9345Ай бұрын
Thanks a lot, i liked the 101 on the crossfader. I really don't use it enough. And one thing to add to the first part about beat matching. When I used to mix daily with Vinyl in 1998 in a place where I had good speakers, and good headphones on one ear, my brain was able to tell if the song in the headphones was to fast or to slow by focusing on the hi-hats not the kick drum. Even when both songs were playing on the main speaker.

Great stuff here guys!! Being a drummer/musician since I was a kid gave me a little bit of a head start into the DJ world and I absolutely love it!! I totally agree with having little mini sets that work great together and having them stacked together in playlists. I usually practice for like 1 to 2 hours each night when I get home from work whether I have a DJ gig coming up or not. Just like being a musician there is always room to learn more. Never stop learning!

I appreciate the drills you shared! I'll definitely be giving them a try. I am relatively novice and love the techno. I listen to a very wide variety of music and have been experimenting with sampling elements from other genres. This has proven to be a challenge since the song structures of less electronic music widely varies. Regardless I've been enjoying the challenge and get a lot of energy when I can finally build a satisfying bridge between two elements that otherwise would have never been mixed together.

#1 reminds me of how I was forced to learn, lol. 2 "direct drive" turntables that didn't have much torque and didn't always maintain perfect pitch as it were (Stanton DD circa 2000). So I was CONSTANTLY having to tweak the speed to keep the 2 in line. It was frustrating at the time, but then I'd feel spoiled playing on a solid set of 1200s. Wait... it's staying put??? This is GREAT!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Also, in retrospect, it trained my ear to catch it early, which is always good to avoid a "trainwreck."

I was doing a fun exercise on the decks the other day with a mate where one of us picks the tracks and the other mixes without looking at the software. Really good if u have a B2B partner as it tests your song knowledge and u just gotta trust they’ve picked a good track. On 2 channels it’s probably not as good but 4 channels with DnB and its pretty fun. Plus I can fully practice song selection with the Camelot wheel in your head, or see how someone else mixes routines you’ve preplanned out.

I done something similar to this - There was 3 of us and we had a ~ 2 hour journey in a car - person in the back (also DJs) had my laptop picking songs and I had the decks in the passenger side hooked up to the cars Aux. First time I had DJ without relying on software in front of me or knowing the song choice coming up- was very difficult (especially with limited experience) but a lot of fun!

Having started on vinyl for tip one with ear training you will know if the track you're mixing in is drifting slow or fast so you know if you need to speed up or slow down the track... Takes practice. I'd also recommend when you count your tracks to could like this: 123456666678 / 22345678 / 33345678 / 44445678. It helps you know where you are in the track and not just rely on visuals. Generally transitions are 16 or 32 measures.
