Im turning into the DJ geek that I never wanted to be.. Ive been DJing since before serato. Records and turntables were all I knew. I slowly welcomed serato and the tech that followed (because of traveling gigs). This year my technics malfunctioned. Combined w the outdated 57 I have at home, I decided to purchase the Pioneer SX3. It came with Serato Pitch n Time & Flip. Now Im doing and learning sht I would have considered corny years ago. Moral of the story: Be versatile and always willing to learn. Great tutorial bro. Thanks!

I bought Flip several years ago when it first came out, and I occasionally try to find a practical use for it...but in the end I always find it's easier for me to do it with basic cue-points, or doubles -- or in the case of a track-part I know for sure I never want to play, just to make a permanent re-edit.

Can I use the flip to slow down the track? for example plays 100 bpm and when does the clean vocals or other part of the song tempo drop to 75bpm?
@Crossfader6 жыл бұрын
The only way to slow it down would be to play the hot cues at 75bpm. For example have a song playing at 75bpm originally and then play the 100bpm tracks hot cues in time with it. Just be careful as it may not sound right if the track catches other sounds/drums as you're playing. You want to be able to isolate just individual sounds ideally. Hope that makes sense.

I was interested untill i found that you must purchase the whole bundle pack of upwards of $350. You can no longer buy a individual expansion. Why would i want to purchase a bundle of plug ins i dont need or desire? Serato must be on a decline to pull a move like this.

Is there actually any point to this? If you want to do any of this stuff to 'save', you might as well remix/rerecord it in a half decent audio package and play that?
@UnitE8085 жыл бұрын
With Flip, you can have multiple edits or remixes in 1 file. It's built in to the DJ program you are playing the file with. Perfect way to try out some edits on a crowd. If the DJ wants to produce a solid remix, they would go to a more complete DAW.

@Crossfader6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. It's something that's unique to Serato at the moment. Definitely one of the big plusses to the software over Rekordbox at the moment.
@ls4life5446 жыл бұрын
Andreas Fischer as Jame said, there is not an option as this and neither fade in and out cue point which traktor has. I have being asking for this on Rekordbox since I switched over to it at least two years ago. Rekordbox has sometimes call sequences call but event thought you could create something remotely close, it is not good for it, just to create a beat pattern. It kind of a sequencer emulator. Someone please tell pioneer with need this two things I mentioned. 😄

Hi Jamie, I'm a new dj, Love your tips and reviews. The flip function of serato is the same if I use the REC function of my serato or rekordbox when i do my set but remixing one song and using hot cues then after the remix i have my own remix version of a particular song that i choose? please let me know if I got it right. (although Im not aware of the legal implication, but just for the sake of theories, i can that do the same function with the regular rec function of the serato dj pro right?. Thank you in advance, hope to hear from you.
@MasonThomas4 жыл бұрын
The REC function in Serato is to record your overall mix. The REC button in FLIP MODE is to record the FLIP. Does that help? I’m confused on what you’re asking.

The first one is easier done by a loop and one cue hit. The second is just one cue hit. No need for flip. Others: nice job. Honestly, flip isn't very useful and often it just needlessly complicates a straight forward routine. Use your $29 to buy pitch 'n time or some nice new tracks
@GjerrusAllMighty6 жыл бұрын
That isnt true.. It depends on the genre of music you play mostly. I have been DJing for way too long and started w records. When serato first came out as I tried to transition I would have completely agreed with you. As time has gone on the way music is made has changed so much. Because of it a lot of these house, EDM, dub, twerk remixes, etc have so much awkward down time.. or they portions of the songs are too busy and in order to play out you have to navigate through these songs or loose your dance floor. If you play open format, and use a lot of different genres to rock its almost impossible to remember every cue point in all the different songs and genres unless you play the same songs every set. Using flip basically records your cue points so you can just play the songs and concentrate on djing vs listening/ remembering or trying to play all your cue points in order to make your mix work with a dope but difficult song.
