for all those saying things about coach b's teachings, he is an advocate of teaching the lifts as a "jump". the jump forces the double knee bend/scoop, therefore putting the athlete in the most efficient position

Great coach. Quality advise.

I'm with ya. the muscle snatch was an example of a well known oly lifter who doesnt hit his hip crease in one snatch method, but does in another. 2- position 1 is torso uprite, bar AT hip crease level, not in contact with HC. 3 - this particular athlete doesnt have any hip pop, not disagreeing with u, so for him, coach is fixing 1 problem while leaving everything else alone. that fact that he doesn't correct something you perceive as a flaw, doesnt make it a flaw.

I totally agree with that in regards to the clean. But I was referencing the snatch

btw, i watched your snatch progression, from 155pr attempt to 175... form looks so much better. how long have you been doing oly lifts? The oly lifts are my favorite because i am horrible at them. I'm always watching youtube videos and reading from diff coaches and diff athletes. I've been doing them about 11 months now, but not dedicated, just as they are programmed in at my gym.

Agree with some comments below. Snatch is an olympic lift and 99% of olympic lifting coaches teach that the bar should hit at your HIP crease, not your mid thigh like Coach B says.

Whoa whoa... he is teaching him to get into the 2nd position of the snatch... he is in no way teaching this as position 1 of the snatch. If you watch the video again, he explains why he is having him pause and finish the pull from the high hang. He is doing it as a fix for a flaw in the athlete's initial lift off the ground... I have a great OLY coach and he said the first pull (coach B calls it a deadlift) is whatever pull that gets you into the most important position of the lift, position 1

I watched some of your CF videos. Pretty good man! I am also a cf/golfer! lol. Anyways, I think we are only in disagreement as to whether burgerner is saying position 1 is mid thigh since he doesnt tell him to pop the bar off his hip. I know from watching his other vidoes he doesnt teach that. he has students that hit the hip crease. I think this video was him fixing a separate issue and not messing with a technique that lacks hip pop.

I agree a large majority of lifters hit the bar with their pelvis during the snatch and clean, disagree that burgener is teaching anyone NOT to do that and with the notion that not doing it is a no rep. been to plenty of comps and seen clean lifts (at much heavier weights than i can dream of) without hip pop. i also dont think pos 1 is being skipped here, its just not as exaggerated because this guy doesnt have huge hip pop. pos 1 is the moment before hip hits bar, not the moment of impact.

Question when I come up on the lift I jump and automatically spread my legs to keep my balance is it wrong

i think every lifter in this video would benefit going from the hip rather than pausing at mid-thigh. more bar body contact needed for sure. don't just dislike this because its criticism. go look up ANY olympic/national level weightlifter and watch them connect at the hips, not mid thigh.

#1 - we aren't talking about muscle snatches right now b/c the guy has 225lbs on his bar. #2 - listen to what Coach B says at 3:29 mark..."learn to hit that mid-thigh position every single time" and at the 2m25s mark "that's your take off position (pointing to mid-thigh)". #3 - Austin is NOT hitting his hip crease at all. its not touching his hip crease. hip crease = position 1. and even though he is NOT hitting his hip crease....coach B says "tha'ts great!!!" the "no rep" was a joke

Well I think that is because you would be hard pressed to find national or international level weightlifters who do not have short femurs and long torsos (there are exceptions ofcourse... Urik Vardanian). This anthropometry favours hip cleaning. Even then, not *all* of them do it. It will vary from person to person.

go re-watch from the 3 to the 4min mark. coach B clearly saying he should be "going" from that mid/low thigh position. so he is saying skip position 1 which is at the hip crease. That's a NO REP coach b....just wrong.

I've been CFing for 3+ years, coaching CF for 1 year and coaching O lift classs at my box for about 6 months now. Those reps at 175 werent great form either.

CF HQ shouldn't be putting out a video of coach B saying "great snatch" to a top elite athlete when the guy is completely missing position 1 (the most important position). you say "position 1 is torso uprite, bar AT hip crease level, not in contact with HC" how do you get the bar to pop/catapult off you if its not making contact? pendlay & catapult method is same. It has to make contact. search on KZbin for "Snatch, Part 2, How To, Olympic Weightlifting" and watch from 1:10 - 1:25min mark

No need to "whoa whoa" here. I understand all of that. He is pausing at position 2. Its called a stall snatch. I agree with why it's important. But after he is pausing at position 2 and when coach says "go", the bar should then come back to position 1 (which is the hip crease). and it isn't happening in this video. austin goes from just above the knee....to overhead....he misses the hip crease.
@ernie1060
@ernie1060 11 жыл бұрын
Haha. Ok, the "whoa whoa" was unnecessary. However, I still disagree with what you are saying. At no point is coach B teaching this to be position 1 or to skip position 2. As a coach, at that level, you work on 1 thing at a time, in this case, it was getting into a proper 2nd position. also, not every oly lifter has a huge hip pop to the bar and certainly the lack of a hip pop is NOT a no rep. Watch the pendlay method and john north, when he does muscle snatches he has zero bar/hip contact.

well that's a horrible snatch right there, no hip extension at all, he just swinging the bar over his head praying to get underneath before crashes himself.

coach burgener isn't a very good olympic trainer.. but this is for crossfit, my coach is much more decent and understanding when explaining the olympic lifts to other people. i dont know who greg everett is but i'm guessing he is a crossfit guy? its not without reason people say crossfit is shit, its because most crossfit athletes is lifting like shit. but for that category burgener is a good olympic lifting coach "among crossfitt" people

maybe in crossfit, as they kicked out greg everett. in the world no, he is no where near the best coach for olympic lifts. he's not even the best coach in america. glenn pendlay and greg everett know far more than he does and have far more succesful athletes. don mccauley is another one and he owns a crossfit gym, so would argue burgener is not even the best in crossfit. not trying to disrespect him, just he's not as good as you think!
