Personally for me the best Mac Gerdts game is Imperial! Just amazing how things fit together and the interactions, to and fro nature of the game and the race and crescendo is an amazing experience...

Have you played Navegador? It's fantastic. Transatlantic felt like a fusion between it and Concordia, but lost the magic of each of them. That's too bad that he didn't get it right this time either. Thanks for the review, you saved me some money.

Ok a bit of a morbid thought, but: Couple of minutes into this wonderful review Johannes talks about rules from memory ´so many games in my brain, I don´t trust my memory on this one.´ I just thought of a great quote for a tombstone of a boardgamer: 'In life, many a game lived in my brain, I cannot trust this one, to be truly over.'

I cannot get my fingers to hold position to signal 4 like Sunniva. I can get to 3 but fail at 4. Maybe you have to be trained from birth to use that method.

i rate concordia and imperial very highly but I have to agree that Gerdts does not impress us here... Brown Euro's need a sexy engine to work...

Yeah I have not been impressed with his games for a long time. In 2013 Concordia was great... In 2006 Imperial was great... In 2005 Antike was great... I did not like basically all the others: 2007 Hamburgum, 2008 The Princes of Machu Picchu, 2009 Imperial 2030 & rules changes in introduced new versions of Imperial (the 2006 version is still good it's just the new print runs with updated rules that is bad), 2010 Navegador, 2012 Antike Duellum, 2014 Antike II, 2017 Transatlantic.

Gerts worked on this game for 4-5 years, abandoned it to morph it into Transatlantic, then out of nowhere came back to it. I don't see how anyone thought it was going to be any good. If he couldn't get it to work in 5 years, why would he now years later?

@@BoardGamingRamblings If you go to the end of the Transatlantic forum, you'll see threads wondering if it will be at Essen 2013/14/15/16, as well as some old playtest pictures of it as a roundel game. At some point in 2017 he ditched the design and made it Concordia 1.5 with cards, but I guess this year he decided to revive that old design and release it at Essen.
