Why is this not the highest rated version of this song on KZbin? I've listened to it so so many times over. Stunning

People like different things. This version is quite polished. The articulation and dynamics are nuanced, similar to what Voces8 might do. Stunning, as you said. Some other listeners are blown away by the Mennonite choir, also singing acapella, with no visible choral direction and a sincere spiritual vibe. The spare arrangement of two singers of the Daisy Mayhem band is also wondrous. I like all these versions in different ways.

One day about two years before her death, I was talking to my mother about her childhood. The discussion got to her experiences in school. For some unknown reason, I asked her what her favorite poem was. She said Crossing the Bar. When I was making the funeral arrangements, I had it printed on the back of the funeral program. She was the real thing.

Our choir just sung this for a recently departed member - very emotional...

Peter's arrangement of Rani Arbo's fantastic setting of "Crossing the Bar" has migrated to dozens and dozens of hospice choirs throughout America! Thank you Peter!

Crossing the Bar BY ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crost the bar.

Stunningly beautiful. A bit of trivia: Upon invention of phonograph, an "embassy" was sent to England to record famous voices. Queen Victoria delegated a "representative" and I believe Henry Irving also declined. Alfred, Lord Tennyson did agree. Unfortunately, recordings of Tennyson's voice on wax cylinders were put near a heating device... Part of one survived, meaning (with static) Tennyson's own voice can still now be heard reciting a short segment of his own poem "Come into the garden, Maud"

A nice arrangement of Rani Arbo's setting, and great singing. (Although personally I have to say that I prefer the song performed at a slightly faster pace, much like Rani Arbo's own performance). Would love to sing this version.
