Crossing the Sierra Nevada on the High Sierra Trail

In 2006, my older son Michael and I made an early-season crossing of the High Sierras, from Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park to Mt Whitney, the highest point in the United States outside of Alaska. We were the first people that year to get a permit and make the crossing. This video shows the first part of that adventure. Michael was 9 years old. Unbelievably (for me), tomorrow he turns 28.
