Great videos! The mountain huts, like Katsiveli and Kallergis, are they open, do you need to book them, etc. And the ferry going along the coast (Hora Sfakion to Sougia), will it run in off season, like late April?

Thank you. Katsiveli needs to be arranged but there is another one always open just 200 meters away. Kallergi is open yes. The ferry goes all year I think but maybe not so frequently as from May to October.

Hi. Great video! It has helped me decide me to book a hiking trip to Crete. I saw you said you slept outside. Is it ok to sleep outside or bivouac in Crete? I read it is technically illegal but tolerated away from built up areas. I'd plan to sleep outside if possible. Thanks 🙂

Thank you. it will be ok to sleep outside up on the mountains. You will have to worry only about the low temperatures. :)

@@THATGREEKGUY_ Thanks for the info! In that case I shall plan to sleep outside but leave myself the option of switching to hotels if needed :)

@@rudolphteperberry3888 Ah thought you mean while on the mountain. When not hiking, you have less options for free camping. Mostly at the south of the island. Check places like Sougia, Glyka Nera, Ligres.

@@THATGREEKGUY_ aha well I just arrived in Heraklion with my bivvy and sleeping bag! I can be quite stealthy 😅. I will sleep in mountain areas but not on the summits, maybe above 1000m altitude. I'm used to making it up as I go along!

@@rudolphteperberry3888 so you came now, early. It will still be cold outside. But you will have all the places to yourself!

Great video, how cold was it over night when you camped? What rating of sleeping bags did you use. Thank you for including the strata files

Hello Max. Thank you for watching! In the night we guestimated something around 6-8 degrees C. My sleeping bag is supposedly "outdoor 11 degrees". We did feel cold. (had light jacket and thermal on me all night). I think the Strava files are pretty accurate. If you plan to do it, drop me a line so I explain a part of the third day where the path was a bit tricky to find

Thank you so much, we plan to head to Anapoli finally so camp overnight at Katsiveli and then head south, possibly including Páchnes on the third day rather than continuing East and going to Niáto. Most grateful for the advice.

@@stickyprickle you will do the other path. The view heading south after Pahnes must be very beautiful!

I have a further question, if you don’t mind. When using a gas stove are the small screw type canisters readily available or is it the pierceable c206 only as per others advice. Thank you for your help
@THATGREEKGUY_
@THATGREEKGUY_ 4 жыл бұрын
@@stickyprickle to be honest I don't know. I use sometimes a simple gas stove (the one I have home). In that trip I didn't have at all. My friend did so I will ask him and get back to you.

Hope you make it. You will love it! It was end of august and no water around. Personally, had to carry 9 lt per person to be sure... 1st night we slept at Kallegri shelter and second night outdoors in Livada point. It was 2 km after Katsiveli shelter. Will be glad to help if you need any tips.

@@milan2273 That day we were planning to sleep in Katsiveli, but wasn't possible because there was no guide available to come open it for us. So had to sleep outside. Regarding the shoes, i used hiking shoes. But 3 of us, as much as i disagreed with that, did it in normal running shoes.

I'm sorry to hear that. Thought that the voice of Florence and the ecological context would match the video.
