i agree, as much as i love how much we can decorate the entire island now, even down to our villagers' houses, i really hope they improve upon the other aspects of the game for the next one. we've got plenty of options for decorating now, so they could just bring those to the next game and focus on things like more dialogue and coming up with more daily activities within the game.

also agree that wild world is the worst of the mainline games for the reason you gave. and i say that as someone who played it when it came out, it was such a step down from the first game. i mean heck, you get half the villagers that you had in the first game. i'm guessing there were so many limitations because of the switch to a handheld console, but honestly i feel like if they were going to have to trim that much content out of the game, they should've just made it for gamecube instead.

I disagree. People time travel because they don't wish to wait. They don't want to wait because they want things as fast as possible. They want things as fast as possible to be "first" or to have relevance and relevance is a huge deal in games like this. When the people who time travel do it they destroy the relevance of other's games. It absolutely DOES affect other people's games. It's just our culture has taught us to be "me me me I want it now now now the way I want want want don't tell me what to do!!!" But things have been changed due to the unfortunate folks who abused time travel to get money from interest and to manipulate the game. That affects others games as well. It's cheating and people will do it because that's our excuse me culture but my personal and unpopular opinion is people who time travel destroy the relevancy and surprise of others' games and Nintendo caters to and changes rules and such to stop those abusing the time travel option. So the immediate cry of "Let people play the way they want!! It doesn't affect you!!" Is just not true. But people will continue to cry it and will continue to find ways to destroy and cheat all games to help themselves because that's how the world is now. Chips!

I agree with the villagers dialogue. I personally really enjoy talking with my villagers on my island. I get where other people come from saying that the villagers don't have diverse personalities and people mainly talk about the villagers' physical appearances, but I just don't really see them that way. I'll pay attention to what my villagers say when they talk to me and I'll kind of round out personalities for them. For example... Pashmina always talks to me about plants, so I picture her having a love for gardening. As a result, I gave her a garden outside her house. Thanks to her sisterly personality, I also see her as a very chill villager but would still sometimes tease and joke around. She also talks to me about failed cooking attempts, so I picture her being interested in cooking but she's not good at it.

Expecting the game to become infinite is unrealistic, no animal crossing game has lasted forever as some people might lead you to believe, there will always come a moment when you feel burnout and run out of things to do, and that's ok, I do feel however New Horizons has by far the most content, and most QoL updates, despite the obvious shortcomings the game still has.

I think the villagers and the dialogue aren’t as boring as a lot of people say. As far as repetition goes, that’s pretty much any Animal Crossing game 🤷🏼‍♀️ so it kinda annoys me when people complain about ACNH being too repetitive because like...that’s kind of a staple of the series as a whole. The villagers were definitely more sassy in the older games but it doesn’t mean they’re boring now. With that said I also try to consistently have 5 male villagers & 5 female villagers on my island at all times, with at least one but no more than two of each personality. Having 3 or more of any personality does start to be a bit much and for me that’s when I tend to get bored of villagers.

This is probably an unpopular take, but I think they should bring back villagers being able to get angry or being mean. I definitely agree that all the villagers feel like mindless dolls we use to just decorate our islands with. I mean back in the day when I played New Leaf and Wild World, Chief would be my grumpy old guy who was secretly best friends with the peppy Rosie and they would get into an argument but then an hour later, they'd be talking again. Also in the older games, the villagers were always gossiping and always wanted to do something with you but now it's, "Oh hey, I was thinking of eating my favorite snack!" or "Oh I just wait until I become a pop star!" or "Yo, bro, let's do a milliion stretches and then have a race! It'll be good for our abs!" or "I like being alone, leave me alone...." I have mostly jocks on my island atm and all of them challenge me to something sport related.... then i have two lazy villagers who talk about eating snacks...

I know that a lot of people want it, but I think if the game added the "mean" dialogue back in then a ton of people would actually complain about how unlikeable their dreamie is now. That being said, I do miss it when villagers would actually argue with each other and have these big extreme reactions. Like sometimes they'd get so angry or sad you couldn't actually talk to them for a few minutes. Now when they talk it's mostly exchanging catchphrases, but back in earlier games I'd always rush over for all the latest gossip.

from my understanding you could unlock a lot of different things to do in the older games that you just can't do now. I find it missing the element of activities in the game. Even if you don't time travel you can basically get 3 stars, terraform and upgrade all of your buildings fairly quickly. once you decorate your house and island... what else is there to do? i think the core of the game is really missing that old interactive element people talk about where villagers would give you random tasks to do for them, different buildings and unlocking new areas or items. all you do in ACNH once you reach a particular level of the game is talk to villagers, give gifts and find bags on the ground. after that you just do daily tasks that at some point you don't really need to keep doing. especially once you are set on your island and like the way it is or looks, you don't really want to keep planting trees or fruit for nook miles or even go to new mystery islands to forage for things. im personally at the point in the game i have no interest in changing the way my island looks, my museum is done and idk how many times i can drink coffee for the 'fun" of it. i like my villagers, i have nook miles, money, i don't want to spend it on anything in particular. so all you do is log on, make sure your villagers are talked too, maybe if you are lucky find a new diy but even that gets repetitive to the point you don't get very many new ones from villagers or bottles on your beach. so, what do you do? after you are totally cool with the way your island is set up? the DLC made it fun for a little while but even then it got a bit mundane after you reach 30 houses and got your new things. What's the point in it? I feel like they dumped a lot of the old stuff people continuously played for and introduced everything the game has to offer WAY to fast. personally the museum should have been harder, the diving into the water was BUNK and a bit boring considering it's not like the villagers go out and swim, the DLC was cool and i still play a little if i want too but it's easy to get 30 houses and after that... nothing you get nothing from playing. i think that's the issue at the root. once you basically are happy with what you have done there is no point in playing and you get nothing for playing.

I don't really have any hot takes of my own, but I do have a few responses to the ones that showed up in this video: With the tools breaking, I personally would feel better about it if we had more warning about _when_ the tools were going to break. Something like visible signs of wear as the tool gets used. That way if the tool is looking in poor shape the player can do something about it, even if it's just to have a backup at the ready. As for golden tools, either make them unbreakable or repairable (preferably even when broken) if you want players to use them! Re: time travel... If you play with time travel a lot, that's your choice; it doesn't affect me as far as I know. As for myself, I don't have a hard "no" on time travel, but there are a LOT of restrictions on when and why I will do it--basically, any time travel that would either go to a future time, or would cause negative effects on my island, is forbidden in my copy of the game. This limits the utility of time travel but does not reduce it to zero. (Example: I forgot to shop at Redd's ship last night, and haven't yet visited the game today... time travel to last night, after my last logout, and shop away. This is an acceptable use.) But an opinion that "time travel is _always_ morally right" is, by definition, going to conflict with my personal view on time travel. While I won't stop you from doing as much time travel as _you_ want, declaring that it's _always_ morally right seems disrespectful to the opinions of those who have serious misgivings about it, like me. Re: "boring" villager personalities--another part of it is that players only interact with the other villagers in a limited number/set of situations. For example, the first interaction with a villager in a day tends to pull from the same limited pool. Once you start talking with them more often, you reach into more and deeper pools of interactions. I've noticed people praising "new" interactions with some villagers that are actually not new at all--they've been part of the game for a long time, if only you'd known where to look.
@mrselfdestruct7605
@mrselfdestruct7605 2 жыл бұрын
You do understand you personally having issues with time traveling can exist alongside the idea its always morally right to time travel? Your personal morals on it do not affect or reflect the fact that in the broad sense there are no moral issues with it, IE people are allowed to time travel if they please and it does not mean theyre doing something bad
@MarsJenkar
@MarsJenkar 2 жыл бұрын
@@mrselfdestruct7605 No. The fact that I have qualms about time travel--and I'm not _just_ talking practicalities here--means that I fundamentally _disagree_ about time travel being _always_ morally right. While I can acknowledge that others have the right to play the game as they wish, _and_ that their decisions don't affect me, and that it's not really _worth_ challenging people on these grounds... it doesn't mean that I think the practice is good or right in _every_ circumstance. And that's what the statement implies. _Always_ morally right is a _very_ high bar. If you can think of even _one_ circumstance where time travel is morally wrong, the statement is false on its face. If you say "always" in a case like this, you better mean it.
@mrselfdestruct7605
@mrselfdestruct7605 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarsJenkar youre putting way too much thought into this. Its a video game, and your Personal qualms with it are just that- PERSONAL ones that do not mean everyone else must adhere to them and they do not affect the general moral standing on fast traveling. It can be morally correct in the general sense at the same exact time as you and others having PERSONAL MORALS you adhere to that are the opposite. You personally having an issue with it DOES NOT mean its actually a bad thing people are doing that is immoral or incorrect, especially when the creator of the game series actively supports people who choose to time travel

The first one is so true . I hope in the next animal crossing it goes back to how it was with new leaf where you pay off a public works project and you have to gain permission for every one. You can still decorate but very slowly and it’s not the main focus because there’s not a wide variety of smaller accessory decorations and no terraforming . I feel like there’s too much pressure to make your island look nice and that takes away the simplicity of the game

Personally I ddint really like the public works project mechanic in nl, I rarely ever finished any projects because there was no real motivation for me. However, I think the villagers would feel more like actual living beings (and not just accessories)if your relationships with them somewhat affected what projects you could do, maybe if you have a poor relationship with a specific villager you would be prevented from moving their house, it would be annoying if you don't care about that villager but it would give more purpose to interacting with your villagers.

I hate many things from New Horizons, but what I hate the most are dialogues. Unecessary repeated dialogue with Isabelle, Blathers, Tommy and Timmy every day, would love to have a menu where you have to press A two times instead of spamming 30 times A. This also adds to my hate towards villagers, I wish I could live alone on my island, I always feel they force me to do things, specially during my tasks, and they do nothing. I loved Wild World and City Folk because its exactly the opposite, if you didn't care about villagers they wouldn't bother you, everyone was at their own unless you wanted to talk them, without expecting a reward from them because you are being polite. Locking crafting recipes under social interactions is the worst that could happen to an introvert person like me.

I hate the linear progression in New Horizons. Literally the entire story is: (Some things may be out of order, I haven't played the beginning since I started) 1. Arrive 2. Go do the tutorial, set up villagers, build tools, etc. 3. Set up Nook's Cranny (After this I think you have to wait a day) 4. Set up the museum (After this I think you have to wait a day too) 5. Get the ladder and shovel 6. Set up plots for more villagers 8. Upgrade Resident Services (And FINALLY get hourly music) 7. Build campsite 8. Get 3 stars and complete Project K That's it. Like, seriously, a game like Animal Crossing shouldn't be this linear, or quick. I think that's the main reason most people quit; they felt like that was all they did. However, in past games, your town developed much slower and much more subtly. A lot of it was the player developing it on their own, while in New Leaf, you could actually make your town in a non-linear fashion. It didn't seem like a list of goals, rather just... Making your town better. THAT was the goal. Likewise, in City Folk, (Which is like either my favorite, 2nd or 3rd-favorite AC game) it wasn't much, but you could see it transform, but it was still a humble town. In ACGCN, I'll be honest, not much happened. But that kind of encouraged you to just... Play. Just hang out, have a good time. That's what the original was going for, but I can understand the newer games' goal of developing your town. Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

I really like ACNH.. it's my first Animal Crossing game, sure I have heard of the older ones, but never played them.. The things I don't like about ACNH is the golden tools breaking.. but I'm okey with the normal tools breaking..but the golden tools to me feels like an achievement, like "you have worked so hard for this one.. now you don't have to worry about your tool breaking ever again." One thing that I really miss in ACNH i some sort of Map Maker.. or a new tab in the Island Desinger App that makes you, just like in HHP, move stuff around freely, like then you do the exterior of the vacation homes, where you can move around the house and stuff in the grid.. That would save alot of bells when you placed someone's house a square wrong from where you wanted it to be.. and then you have to wait, pay bells to move the house, found somewhere to place the house, then wait again, pay some more bells to move the house again to where you wanted the house in the first place.

This is a popular opinion most likely I find Wild World the worst AC game due to the fact they took out real life based holidays and tried to put their own orginal holidays. The fact you have to be extremely precise in order to have a perfect town (like how close the trees are and how many you plant.). I don't like how players have to share a house, it takes away from each person having their own house design.

My unpopular opinion is that this fandom has kind of turned into a lot of toxic entitled babies. Not everybody here is, but I feel like so many people are just never happy no matter how much they get. Everybody has opinions on what they want, but so many people come off like the opinion they have is a fact and that Nintendo is just trying to anger fans or ignoring them. I think this series only got better so I love where we are now. Yes I think New Horizons is better than New Leaf, but my point here is I feel so many people are acting like this thing or that thing is a birth right Nintendo owes them. I see so many people that just seem deeply entitled with demands on what they want. 2.0 was really good and yet so many people are still asking for more, something you really do need to stop and think of the good things you got. This is by no means saying New Horizons is perfect, but I think it does so many wonderful things that most people never stop to think about. Nintendo could have never given us 2.0 at all so I just want more people to slow down and thank them for all the good they did. I just get tired of people that seem to have a list of wants turn more into entitled demands. Just something to think about.

Personally, I don't really understand the sentiment that seems to go around the AC community that the villagers need to be complete a-holes to be complex and interesting. Admittedly, I came into the fandom at New Leaf, so I don't have the experience with older versions of the villagers to say whether or not the newer versions feel more simplified and one-note by comparison. But even still, people saying they want their villagers to "treat them like garbage" feels weird to me. Especially considering just how many people have talked about how Animal Crossing helped them through serious depression. I mean, if that's how you like your villagers, you do you. But if mine treated me half as bad as people made them out to be in the GameCube game when I started ACNL, I probably would've quit fairly quickly.

I’d say part of the problem is some villagers took time to start acting “nice” to you. The cranky villagers would be a bit rude because of the mood they were in, but you became friends with them and they loved you. It’s the fact that my “cranky” villager moved in and is treating me like their all time best friend that feels wrong.

I'm gonna comment on all the opinions, sharing my own thoughts. Decorating vs Living opinion: I like your take on it. The reason I don't interact with my villagers as much as I could is because there isn't a lot to do. And the visits are usually at a bad time and get annoying (wish there was a Do Not Disturb option in your house). Tools breaking: It's to put emphasis on crafting. Still don't like it. But what if they added Platinum tools that don't break? There's a good idea for DLC that would sell quick. Time Travel: It's a personal choice. Myself, I only use it when I'm doing a lot that requires waiting day after day. Such as mass catalog ordering. But if it's only a thing or two, like a bridge, I don't bother. Too much time traveling takes away my enjoyment of the game, but so does too much waiting. Finished or not: I think it's complete enough to say it's finished, but I also think there's a lot of potential for small updates, even through paid DLC. A minigame island DLC would be especially welcome. Pocket Camp: It's about the money. Free PC is frustrating, and has become almost unplayable with the aggressive microtransactions. My mom has played since it launched without paying, and she's considering quitting because of them. I don't want this for NH. And I wouldn't want even one DLC pack with some of the items, because they won't/can't include them all. Dialog: Villagers also have an interest on top of their personality. It makes a small difference, but it is there. Such as Tia and Flurry. Both Normal. They share some dialog, but Flurry also has parts where she seems to have a lot of self-doubt, while Tia doesn't, having much more positive dialog. Vs. New Leaf: I don't think they tried to compare NH to other AC games. They just made it they way they saw it, and did a great job. Personally, I don't like comparing games, even in the same IP. Each is its own entity. My top opinion: Some features people want just won't happen. Such as batch crafting. It would be a coding nightmare, and just not worth the effort to add.

You know, I dislike golden tools breaking in ACNH for the same reason I dislike weapons breaking in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, to the point I consider those two Zelda games the worst games in the whole franchise that aren't for the CDi "console". Heck, I rate those two Zelda games as much worse than the other two Zelda games for the Switch (the remake of the first GameBoy one and the remaster of the Wii one), and even worse than the original NES one (as weapons breaking frustrate me so much I actually have more fun with the oldest Zelda ever made). (And no, I don't consider the two Hyrule Warriors to be proper Zelda games. Those are blasted Musou games. As much as I love the idea of playing with other characters from the Zelda series, I can't stand Musou games.) Heck, I always considered tools breaking in previous Animal Crossing games to be a downside, and what convinced me all those years ago that time-travelling was the only possible way to play the game, as I would never accept being stuck without the tool I wanted to use just because my previous one broke and I didn't have a spare while playing after Nook Cranny's closing time. And yeah, I time travel. A lot. In fact, Nintendo locking the seasonal events so we couldn't go early to them through time travel made me stop playing - and distance myself from any and everything Animal Crossing related - in 1.1 and only get back to the game a couple weeks ago, when I was finally made aware that all seasonal events are unlocked for time travel and no further events are going to be added. If there's one thing I almost never do in an Animal Crossing game, it's to play in the current date, so for my play style an Animal Crossing game without all the festivals (and, thus, what it was before 2.0) felt like only half a game.

Honestly I probably wouldn’t be playing ACNH if I couldn’t time travel. For me, a single day can be very boring once I do everything I need to, and I just want to move on. Also I’m the type of player who plays constantly for a few weeks than forgets about it for a few months (I do the same thing with Stardew Valley and Minecraft) so time travel is extremely valuable for keeping my interest in the game

Bobsgang! (is it one word or two?) Also, imo.. I really really enjoyed ACNH. My only complaint will be that the decorating is still not perfect. I still can't put fences in between spaces- Can't make it perfectly line up with things.. I personally hate how the wall decorating is treated, not being able to see what's on the floor really sucks, but honestly- I still had a fun time with ACNH. I really hope that they take their time and not rush out the next installment like Pokemon is doing right now. PLease please please Nintendo, don't make Animal Crossing a cash cow... I hope they put even more effort into the next installment.

i hate, no, loath, no, *ABSOLUTELY DESPISE* Shep. Shep is a disease. Shep deserves no love. i have several pieces of clothing in the tailor shop dedicated to hating all of his despicable sheppiness. there, i said it.

They should've kept villager dialogue from the last game. Villagers in NL asking you about food preferences, asking you how you were doing and giving you different answers depending on your response, asking you about what flowers you like or if you believe in UFOs, etc. made them feel more alive and it would've been easy to copy and paste the pre-written dialogue from NL into NH, instantly boosting how much variety in dialogue there would've been from launch. (Also since all that dialogue is already translated into all the languages the game is localized in, Nintendo wouldn't have to pay any extra translators for it.) But honestly the thing keeping me from playing more often is that I've finished decorating and thus have nothing to do, and redoing any part of my island would mean crafting, which is a lot of mashing the A button. The lack of bulk crafting makes it kinda tedious to do any decorating, tbh.

i actually really hope they don't make a new game any time soon. i think people are pushing too hard for it, when we only JUST got this one. it's feels to incomplete imo, and would be a bad market move on nintendo's part to just give up on this game the same way part of the fandom has seemed to. i would love to see a new game eventually. but i want to see what THIS game can continue to offer first. "no new major updates" or not, the game will still be updated. new features can still be added. it just won't be as big as adding a BRAND NEW cooking mechanic, or HHP. if you expect them to go all out every time, you'll be continuously disappointed. have patience and see how the game evolves

I wish that popular ACNH Instagrammers would stop complaining that “anyone can make their island pretty now” when new items were added and stuff. Like I’m sorry I’m not very creative let me have fun and stop sulking I’m not trying to one up you, sit down. Their ego is hurt for no reason…

i'm not going to lie i legit bought this game at the beginning bc i thought there would be more... to do. don't get me wrong you can spend months DOING things but the first opinion is right, it's just about making your island pretty and then after you do that.... then what? you finish your museum, then what? you start over? I never played any other animal crossing game so idk how it use it be but i thought it would be wildly different than it is. I totally get there's no real objective to the game i guess, I just don't see how this game can last much longer without any major updates or any major changes. It had it's peak in 2020-2021... i find myself not even wanting it pick it up anymore. with that said i disagree it's a complete game. There could have been things added in more like stardewvalley to where it's almost required to follow a story or have objectives, but at a slower more open world pace. there's plenty of games who have this feature and the game stands the test of time. Especially if you can't add on islands or make your island bigger or unlock other area's around the "world." as someone who absolutely LOVED this game at the start, it's ultimately disappointing i feel like the only thing to actually do in this game is to spend and make money, decorate and then... i guess start over? lmao. as far as interaction i don'[t even see the point in interacting with them that much. from my understand there used to be tasks they would give you in older games. I just hate talking to a peppy villager and constantly getting the SAME dialog from that one villager. It's not so much that ALL the villagers have the same dialog it's that it's nearly boring the interact with them all together with the same 5 or 6 phrases they say.
