CrossMath is like Scrabble with numbers. Place number tiles on the board along with +, -, ÷, x, and = symbols to create equations. Once an equation has been laid on the board, other players can use the numbers in those equations to create their own, effectively creating a great big crossword-puzzle-looking pattern of equations, just like you would do using letters and words in Scrabble. Score bonus points for placing your tiles on special spaces.
CrossMath is easy to learn, quick to play, and a lot of fun. I found the process of building math problems using the 10 tiles on my rack very satisfying, and that kind of frequent positive reinforcement will motivate typically numbers-averse kids to keep on playing.
This is one of those games that I'd recommend regardless of its developmental benefit. The fact that it does so much to reinforce math skills could really be seen as just a big fat bonus.
The difficulty is also very modifiable. If your kids are not up to doing division or multiplication just yet, simply remove those symbols from the game, or make a rule that every symbol can be used as a 'plus' or 'minus'.
