I have a pair of alto tx8 powered pa speakers and dam do they sound good, they are bi amped and have active crossovers. The insides of those speakers look just like the insides of some of the older passive harbinger speakers.

I used some Alto TX208's recently, they have incredible sound for the price point! Very good economical speakers.

FOHFILMS I kinda forgot about the altos tell I saw this comment, recently I bought a pair of Qsc cp8’s and will soon order a ks112 sub. I have never heard anything that comes close to the sound of QSC

Wow... Cool video! Is it possible for you to make a video where can show all speskers you own at the moment? It would be quite interesting to see your speaker collection! Greetings from Germany!

Unfortunately my speakers are spread out at home and at college, so right now i cant :( But I might be able to make a video like that in december when I am back home!

not actually the proper way to do that. you need to know the frequency response and impedance curve for each of the drivers to tune the crossover. the way you have done will not drop the final impedance to 4 ohms. it will be 8ohms. the sensitivity of compression drivers is much higher compared to low frequency drivers. those resistors placed in the existing crossover are there to damp the compression driver a bit to level with the woofer and create a flat response of the overall system.
@FOHFILMS6 жыл бұрын
Uhh not true? two 8 ohm drivers wired in parallel equals 4 ohms, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, that can change given the impedance curves of each driver but that's the case with any speaker. No speaker is exactly 8 ohms, 4 ohms, etc. Also, yes, the end result of this modification resulted in a louder compression driver, but frankly, I'd rather have a horn too loud than too quiet, as subtractive EQ can be applied to level it out and its likely much a little more efficient than boosting missing frequencies. Point is, this modification was fine, Obviously if I wanted to make the boxes sound perfect with no additional EQ i'd measure the response of both drivers, see where the best crossover point is, choose the crossover point, find the difference in efficiency between LF and HF, create an L-pad resistor network for the HF.. but on a budget this made the most sense for me.
@FOHFILMS4 жыл бұрын
So uh update, couple years later, you are absolutely right lmao. I wasn't taking into account that the final impedance curve of the speaker would just be the impedance curve of each driver, with slight variations due to the impedance of other components used as well as the overlap in frequencies between the two drivers

My amplifiers aren't very efficient. Whenever I turn them up, the breaker trips. There is no load on the breaker except for the amplifiers. Is there a way to fix this?
@FOHFILMS7 жыл бұрын
Double Dragon what speakers/amps are you running and on what circuit do you have them on (i.e. 15 amps, 20 amps etc.)?
@dragalia90087 жыл бұрын
I have 20 amp on 120 volts and all the electrical is new too. I'm at least pulling 2700 watts out of the wall.

I'm running a kenwood 900 watt receiver and 2000 watt onkyo receiver. my outlet power usage monitor says about 2700 watts.
@-Navy7 жыл бұрын
Well, there's your problem, a 20 amp breaker in a 120 volt supply is capable of supplying a maximum of 2400 watts continuously, and your system pulls at least 3000 watts given the ratings of your amplifiers, the solution would be to put your amps in separate breakers or using heavier gage wires and a 30 amp breaker.

Uh not necessarily an upgrade... you just changed it to a 4ohm cabinet (which draws more power) and totally changed your frequency response. You’re low end will not give you a true reference when filling a big space. Hopefully your tweeters can keep up without popping. I really like mine for front fill and chaining them together is a lot easier at 8ohm.
@FOHFILMS6 жыл бұрын
Nothing about the low end of the speaker changed from adjusting the mid/high crossover frequency.. lol. Yeah, the treble response changed drastically but I'd rather have a box with a horn a little bit too loud than too quiet, as I can apply subtractive EQ to it and flatten the box out. Much better than boosting the box and losing large amounts of efficiency. Also, in my case, 4 ohms, even 2 ohms, are all loads that my amplifiers can handle. so no worries there.
@unitysoundvideo87326 жыл бұрын
The box is tuned for the woofer to do more mid range work. You’re box is now relying on the performance of the tweeter. This changes your boxes frequency response. To what? Don’t know. If your tweeter can handle the extra work when it’s pushed, great. But if you start pushing it and the tweeter pops I wouldn’t be surprised. Also, I have 4 of them and have had more then two in series. Wouldn’t want to do that with 4ohm boxes. Like I said; not necessarily an upgrade. I wouldn’t do it because I mix these with higher end cabinets and have been amazed at how well their sound matches up.
@FOHFILMS6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but stock, these boxes come nowhere close to higher end boxes. They're horribly inefficient. I couldn't get even the 10s to get past 90dbA at 1m on reasonable power. Also, given that these boxes have differential dispersion horns, I'd rather have more given to the tweeter, as the control of dispersion of those waveguides is crazy good. Also, to be honest, the listed crossover freq for these boxes is 2500,, so I'll be damned if I'm sending too much mids to the HF.. Theoretically I shouldn't have changed the xover point at all.There's no risk of me popping the tweeters, so long as I have clean amplifier power. I even had someone accidentally wall socket one of my 12" stellar labs cabs with the same mod (had a ghetto extension cord speakon cable, yes thats horrible but it was a last minute fix), and the box survived 2400 watts without a scratch being plugged in for basically 3 seconds. I give them maybe 400 watts each maximum. As far as impedance goes, 4 ohms, while not neccesarily a standard in pro audio top boxes, is fine for my use, as my amplifiers can handle 2 ohm loads on each channel anyhow. More goes into a box than frequency response. Frankly, I'd say coverage and efficiency are far more important... So this is a DRASTIC upgrade for me. I definitely wouldn't do this if you dont have the ability to EQ them, but if so, it makes a ton of sense.

I’ve seen cheaper tweeters pop when pushed on there lower end. That’s why crossovers are important. If you’ve seen these tweeters hold up to being pushed, great. Makes me appreciate the $25 I spent even more. I agree to disagree about them sucking from the factory and not being high end sound. They have a nice response for speech with a smooth low end. If all I wanted was a high box to go on top of subs maybe this mod would be more appealing but I have these boxes filling space. Which means they may be the only thing some of the audience hears. They really do a good job of utilizing the 8” woofer. Very balanced. If I start pulling out my SPL meter I doubt I’m I’m ever more then 90-95 tops but this box is giving me what I need. Similar to higher end boxes, they give great sound so I don’t have to constantly eq. They are excellent at doing the job I bought them for: front fill, mains on smaller rooms, and monitors when needed.

99% of cabinets have crossovers that don`t match with the compression and the woofer datasheet. It`s a trick manif. make or because of non professionality
