I can recall about a half dozen landings in over fifty years as an airline passenger that were exceptionally rough. The kind where the plane would seem to touch down on one of the main landing gears, then bounce and swerve as if the pilot had one too many before entering the cockpit. It was not until I began viewing some of these crosswind landing videos that I finally figured out what caused such scary moments... YIKES! Those are the instances where the men and women up front REALLY earn their pay. These landings also represent moments where flying becomes less an exercise in using carefully scripted procedures and becomes an art.
