In contrast to the bigger, more well-known cities in Italy, the Calabrian city of Crotone in the south of the country may seem a little off the beaten path. Crotone Calabria, which lies in one of Italy's poorest and least-traveled districts, isn't as well-known as Tropea, the crown jewel of Calabria, but it's still worth adding to your schedule because of all the things to do there!
By Italian city standards, Crotone Italia is not a particularly huge city, but its fantastic location on the Ionian coast and its rich cultural past make it a place worth visiting. Crotone is situated on the "Costa dei Saraceni" (the Saracens Coast), an undeveloped stretch of shoreline that faces the Ionian Sea and is rich in history and Magna Graecia civilization relics.
Le Castella in Isola di Capo Rizzuto, some 30 kilometers from Crotone's main town, is without a doubt the city's most aesthetically pleasing destination.
The Ionian Sea's beautiful sandy beaches are bordered by azure waters, and the region as a whole exudes an informal, carefree, yet urban vibe. The beaches in and around Crotone Calabria, in our opinion, are not as lovely as those in Tropea, but they are far less developed and still retain a very local feel.
