This kind of mother has good intentions but delivers it in the worst possible way. It's quite common amongst Asian parents. They'll criticize everyone else but themselves because they're watching out for others when in reality it's not necessary. The brother and sister can see for themselves how much their parents struggle and subconsciously know to work for the life they want. The mother is stuck in the mindset that without her micromanagement, they'll forget, but its actually her who keeps forgetting they're not children anymore. Also, telling the father to behave a certain way to appear proper literally made him improper. It might seem like the obvious thing to mention it but like the father said, it's a simple dinner with another family. Going into it with some kind of motive is just a recipe for disaster. Pretty evident with how Jiali wanted to disrupt the dinner like that. She had a strategy and it worked because it struck a nerve with Chenghuan's family. If they came in with no intention of appearing classy, all of those insults would have only made Jiali looked insecure. Bad etiquette from Chenghuan's mother considering that was her mission and it failed spectacularly. Jiali's obviously snarky, too much even for a wealthy individual probably not of her own merits. Jialiang is a childish figure, no point in reprimanding his actions, he's just genuinely immature, too much so to even consider marriage.
