Thanks KZbin for allowing me to make slower speed adjustments! I want to repair an old worsted hexagon quilt with visible mending and I think your excellent tutorial gives me the inspiration/technique to use--perle cotton on wool. Thanks for posting.

Huzzah! It's always a pickle to figure out how to fill in a shape like a star, so this one is definitely going on my books for later on too!

I like the octagon. I would place a silk ribbon flower or even something in cotton floss. I liked all of your stitches. Thank you. Pat-South Padre Island, Texas

Thank you! I used this to stitch a 4-pointed star decoration over some mending on a hoodie. Had a few false starts (like you said, it starts out deceptively terrible) but it worked great, even on knit!

I really like the star. Now I’m wondering what it would look like going all the way point to point. May have to give it a try. Not used this stitch as yet, but gotta start somewhere 😸
@gettheetothestitchery4 жыл бұрын
You know, I was almost going to do a second star that skipped the inverted angles, but I didn't get around to it. You could also make a six-pointed star by overlaying two of the traditional triangles!

Ps: I forgot to mention, I also did a diamond shape (like the diamonds on playing cards basicaly 2 triangles together.) and it also works great! And the last way I tried and succeeded was a 4 point star using the square and the triangle shapes. I first stitched the square in yellow than added the triangles on each 4 sides in red floss and I live how cute it looks like a mini bunch of star flowers. I added the stem and 2 diamond shapes on each side of the stems in 2 shades of green for the leaves. it looks adorable! I have a picture of anyone wants to try it out. You are so right, if you keep playing with the technique you'll come up with lots of ideas! Very relaxing & enjoyable while having afternoon tea & strawberry jam toast! They are quick & easy to make a bunch when stitched in miniature for all over print style.

This reminded me of string art. (with nails and string) I was going to say, but easier. Yeah, that's only because you were doing it! If it were me then you would have seen what a hot mess Really looks like 😂 😂
@gettheetothestitchery3 жыл бұрын
Haha I'm sure that's not true! It is a lot like string art though - very much that back and forth repetition to create an abstract pattern.

Very nice! I think the octogon would look really pretty if it was used to frame a smaller piece in the middle, say for a border on a project. Or a printed fabric that was embellished with embroidery.

How many threads are you using? Are you splitting the embroidery thread into three threads or using the full six threads together? It is wool, cotton or what type of thread?
@hasslefreerental78333 жыл бұрын
I've figured out how to do the hexagon, you have to connect each line to form triangles (like when you cut a piece of pie or pizza for example.). Than start it from the very center/inside out. Thank you!

I hate it how youtube doesn't allow to attach a picture to the comments so I can show you guys my cute flowers! I was able to find an icon of the diamond shape I was talking about on my phone emojis icons, in case you guys get confused on what type of diamond shape I meant when I said; like the playing cards diamond. You may have to squint to be able to see it because it's black in color. Here it is: ♦♠♥♣ It's the first one out of the 4. Can you guys see it? lmk

how do you figure out how much thread you need? i always end up cutting too much or too little
@gettheetothestitchery3 жыл бұрын
Unless I'm doing a really small section of stitching, I usually just go with a length of thread that feels comfortable to sew with - generally around an arm's length for me. Then when you run out, you can just tie off your thread on the back and cut off any extra or start a new thread segment to finish the piece!
