This song came on the radio as me and my brother & sister were on the freeway, on the way to a hospital in LA. After my dad had his second cardiac arrest, everything seemed lost. When this song came on, I held back my tears and told myself that I would come listen to this song once my Dad was better. He received a heart transplant, a true gift. ❤

In April 1987 (shortly after this song was released), I was driving cross country and late one night somewhere in Oklahoma, I heard this song for the first time, on the radio as I was driving, and it felt so pertinent to a long trip. Or, at least, the lyric "But you'll never see the end of the road while you're traveling with me" did. Yes, 3:00 a.m., somewhere in "OK", in a light rain, during a long trip alone, with this song suddenly playing.

Yeah,1985. I was 13 then, and the trick you did back then was having your cassette ready with the record/play button pushed, along with the pause button. Then you would listen to the radio, and wait for your favorite song to come on. (sometimes they would tell you..."up next Crowded House"). I sat and waited, and when this song came on, I released the pause button and recorded it! Well, forget the radio once I had my song recorded. I played it over and over again I literally wore the cassette out. I did that a lot back then...good times for sure!

It was the Summer of 1987. Boom box in our backyard, this was playing. Actually played a few times. Slip n' Slide was laid out on the grass and one of those outdoor kiddie pools with the hose in it, filling it up, water was still running. Nice hot day. We had a fun time. Wrestling around the yard with our dad. Me, my older brother and little sister. My father passed away in 1998. One of my fondest memories of 1987 is sparked by this song and it even has me in tears as I write this. I didn't see this coming (the emotion) but the feeling and memory associated is so strong. This played on the boom box and it echoed our backyard as an afternoon that I'll never forget. Miss ya' pops!

I don't understand the comments that say "you're just discovering this is 2015? Sad." Like I'm sorry, are we not allowed to discover new music or expand our taste? Did I miss something? Why does it matter how we found the song. We found it, and it's a good song. You're not more important because you've heard it before lol

Baby is going to be very smart, have a very creative imagination and strong intuition. Stay far away from drinking tap water and baby formula. No mainstream music and keep your phone as far away as possible when going to bed. Trust me Also do not Medicate your child for ADHD. I was for over 20 years and I never had ADHD. It was Asperger’s and many doctors are just can’t distinguish the difference between ADHD and Asperger’s in children also many of them get commissions for prescriptions and just flat out don’t care. The places my barely autistic brain could have taken me would have been a lot better than where I ended up now being on a medication that’s one molecule away from meth. An angel wanted me to tell you these things. Bless you and your child a happy healthy life.

I think it is about a guy who is resigned to the fact that he’s in love with a materialistic, maybe a bit shallow girl, and he knows he doesn’t have enough to make her happy. Though he’s urging her to fight for their love, he knows the materialistic needs of the world will win out in the end. Read the lyrics again and see if you agree.

To Jt; Thank you for a valid interpretation. As with any song, especially one with such a hauntingly lovely melody, chorus, and instrumentation, we find ourselves applying our own take to the meaning based upon our personal moments within that time, and a special person in that moment.
@MsBeebee853 жыл бұрын
I love interpretations. The tv page part poked out at me, guess back then the radio and press had freedom of speech on their sides, now looks like all of them are propaganda just like that tvbox and people believe that screen without ever doubting it like some holy grail, rather than asking questions and doing their own research. Sad as!

Joe Giron Trumps wall is for our country’s border. We’re still as a country allowing “legal” immigration. Just trying to prevent “illegal” immigration. Don’t you think, maybe we should take care of the amount new immigration and current citizens first, before just allowing anyone and everyone come flood over. We have homeless, veterans and plenty of other issues that need to be fixed. And having a border should’ve been mandatory years ago. Every country should have boarders with a certain path only available to enter and exit. This, controlling what’s imported and exported. Not to mention making sure that actual citizens are employed instead of “illegals” who snuck across a boarder to take that job. I swear, liberals mentality is just the bottom of thinking. Confused by gender. Offended by anything. Funny, liberals like to say trump supporters are uneducated. Yet, liberals tend to be broke and trying to use minority’s has a source of votes, especially those illegals one. Illegal is illegal by definition mr college professor

I hadn't heard this song in years... but there's indeed something hidden in this song... Today while sitting in traffic, suddenly these words started playing in my head.. "Now I'm walking again.. to the beat of a drum.. and I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart".. followed by a friendly comment.. "push the 80's hits button" ( in my car's media player screen ).. I couldn't believe it when this song started playing.. but I knew right away who it was when the lyrics seemed to highlight specific words.. so yes, Jesus is at the door.. make sure to open it... for "There's a battle ahead... many battles are lost.. but you'll never see the end of the road while you're traveling with Him"... Blessings.

I'm glad I can find this song in this right time, right moment. Not only the time we are facing covid, we are all in the same struggle to find the meaning of life. The world is on high tension, everything is moving too fast, too fragile, and sometimes too unreal. We are too afraid that the things we are building along will one day collapse. We cannot find a moment to take a rest, go out to meaninglessly hang around, and to take a look at the sunset. We are measuring things by its value and return, instead of its meaning within. This turns out to be the ethical problem of living. This melody, lyrics describing liberty -- free will -- sang exactly what we should do. Even when in a big struggle, we stand up with our own belief, to live with a meaning, even we knew it is going to turn out to be in a hard way.

It’s amazing! It’s the second night that I wake up between 3 and 4 am with this song in my head! Although it is a beautiful song, I have never been very familiar with it and it’s words. English is not my mother tongue and yet this is the song I have in my head when I wake up in the middle of the night! We live in weird times when you hear contrary news (such as there will be a sort of tracking device in the vaccines or that it will modify your DNA)... I feel that we are losing our freedom and in time, humans may become enslaved by the richest of this world. I don’t want to go back where we were before. I dream of a better world where money doesn’t buy everything including our politics, where the true value is love and care for each other. I know I am an utopiste. I may not live to see this world but I hope that our children, our grandchildren will. Maybe all of us, individually, we can start wishing for this world to come. The power of intention is stronger than we think ❤️
