It was the heat. Things had been quite slow the past couple of weeks. But not anymore. It was the heat. Today we find people in the streets EVERYWHERE, the fullest I've seen in some time, including some queues building in places I've never seen before. People are ready to go to Disneyland again!

David, what you mentioned about Disney being the only theme park still doing reservations. I believe you are correct. I really wish Disney would get rid of it. It is starting to look like it really is here to stay, but I sure wish they would dump it! It is NOT guest friendly.

Reservations help spread guests out through out the week and they help Disney plan for staffing levels. I'm glad they are here to stay.

If it helps make the park experience better and not let the place turn into a complete zoo with out of control wait times, then I’m totally fine with it. This isn’t Cartmanland only letting in 50 people a day. It’s still a lot of guests.

David - really interesting day for State of Disneyland this report. Still trying to wrap my head around Monday being so busy nowadays. I guess it’s the locals plus Magic Key availability? Great report as always. Also - when you were talking about the reservation system still being used (I totally agree with your questioning of why this is still a thing), and you said “Disney wants to control … you (point at the camera)”. I totally expected you to then say “and I AM talking to you” … my worlds would have collided. Fresh Baked!

I was there on the Saturday of the heatwave weekend. I thought it would be unbearable, but it was alright actually. Now I'm super glad we went that day! Short lines all around and once the sun went down, it was a wonderful, warm night!

Haven't watched the video yet but as someone who was denied the DAS after having it for the past two years I can imagine all of us are adding to the lines (not me...I just don't go on rides anymore 😢).

My travel partner was denied DAS, but was able to use "return time" option. It worked fine for most rides in DLR, but other rides, the accommodation was lacking (Indy). I still had to guide her through the exit route through a dark, winding "queue". Check into that next time you go. You still wait, but it averages about 10 min less than standby queue.

Talked with you Monday by The Matterhorn Bobsleds. Yes, the park was very, very busy. We were there at rope drop, but it didn’t take long before the lines were long. The crowds were unbelievable, it was hard to walk around. Sad.

Hi Dave! Glad to see you around at the park that Monday! My family and I were inside the parks, Monday, Wednesday, & Today(Thursday) and I can say this was definitely the busiest I have seen it in a WHILE! DCA on Wednesday was insane! The big rides like Guardians & Radiator springs didn’t drop below 100min. Monsters inc, soarin, & Toy Story were a steady 60min. Even jesses carousel was a steady 30 min for a few hours. I saw you walking around DCA on the Sunday of that heat wave. The bad 106 degree day. It was soooo empty! We walked on several rides with no line. In the early morning we were able to ride Grizzly 2x in a row. We got wet and it kept us cool for hours! We'll, cooler haha

We were there, Sun, Mon, Tues. Sunday was ok, but Monday and Tuesday were insane. There are discount tickets out, so parents are taking their kids out of school. Also, DCA closed early two of those days, which is bunk. Also, many rides being refurbished, so there more people wandering the park. I'm going a final time in January then not renewing my pass. Taking a break from Disney for several years. It's just not fun when it's so crowded. I will live vicariously through you and your videos. Thanks for the updates.

Disney set up and knocked down the perfect scenario. We’ve spent ages taking comfort in the fact that late August & early September were always slow. So, they introduced the discounted 3 day passes, brought Halloween to the parks earlier, and added more OBB nights. Everyone followed the historical data about the low crowds after school went back in session, bought cheap tickets and flocked to the parks. Now, those discounted tickets are set to expire and every who hadn’t used them yet is scrambling to the parks to get them in. Disney really won on this one. As always, the consumer lost. We’ve always done Disney last week in august and it’s always been very light crowds. This year, it was an absolute madhouse - like you’re experiencing here. If I had to guess, I’d say the crowds will level out, at least a little, as these passes expire and likely stay that way until Christmas hits in November.

I just spent 15-17 and it definitely felt busier. Even splurged for genie plus and barely could use it as the times were soo far out. However roped dropped on Monday and did the 3coasters and Indy by 9am. Did yell at you as I was solo riding one of the horseless carriages as you got to the park on Monday lol

I have seen a 60 minute queue for Mr. Toads; however, that was before Toontown was opened. It used to be quite common back then and yes, it did stick way out in front of the iron gate.

I've seen Alice to the restrooms! And I also remember at time when Matterhorn used both sides. And when Pirates queue went to the left of the doors near the treehouse and Space Mountain queue had cut outs where you could see the ride vehicles going by inside while you were in line! i think the railroad being down creates a lot more traffic inside the park. the trains hold hundreds of guests. add to that the closure of it's a small world,jungle cruise and splash mtn (RIP),and you have guests scrambling to find stuff to do that would normally occupy those attractions.

I was at Disneyland the 5th thru the 12th. The crowds were managable from 8am to 3pm, but after 3pm it was standing room only in all lands. Rise of the resistance never had a que below 90 min.

I think people cashed in their 3-day ticket deal before it expires. Wednesday was an anomaly because literally thursday, the following day, was back to lower wait times. I was not waiting for an hour for rides when I've gotten used to 30-minute waits for the past few months. I did mainly pin trading Wednesday, so i didn't see that day as a loss since i got some new pins from buying and trading. Still got some rides in. Rode matterhorn 5 times on the back breaker path, so i was happy as a clam.

Went last Thursday 9/12 and with lightning lane we barely waited in any lines! We just waited in a few regular queues to use up time, and got a bargain being right next to Rise after a breakdown. No more than 30 minutes for it! It also wasn’t too hot, we just took cover and went to Oga’s + ate lunch during the peak heat. Only downside, caught a cold! 🥲

I think the parks will be super full through Halloween. Here in Northern California, they just finished a major radio promotion where they were giving away tickets on at least 6 different stations in my area. Well, 6 that I actually listen to, so it was probably more. And that was Sacramento. I'm sure the same was going on in other markets. And they sounded like they were only good for the Halloween season. Normally, I'll hear if two stations giving them away and they're usually good for most of the year.

Dave, the que for haunted mansion is very confusing. My first day was 225 at 130pm. I got the call at 630pm and we were eating dinner. 5 hours to wait for haunted mansion. If you are coming from out of town and dont know the process. It is hard not to get angry.

Yes, it was the heat. My first three days it was 107 degrees, then 105 for two days then 90 to 100. My last day was wednessday and it was 85.

Something I noticed a few days ago is they are PACKING the LL queues with people. I think they are experimenting with figuring out how heavily they can tip the ratio of line mixing in favor of LL. I was seeing easily two times the amount of LL folks in the queues a few days ago and the standby lines were horrendous

Yes we just booked for October 7-8 and they showed DCA unavailable on the non-Oogie day for a one park pass, so we were forced into buying hopper passes. I checked a few days later and all passes were available again. So Disney made an extra $325 on our party of 5. Really feels like we got scammed. :/

The only thing I can see as a possibility why they’re limiting reservations and people in the park is that if a guest pays $150 for a day at the park and it’s so crowded that they cannot enjoy themselves that is not good business. If I pay $150 a person to get into the park and they, let fewer people in then those people have a better experience. If they charge $150 a day to get into the park and the park is totally crowded and I cannot navigate to park or enjoy anything I’m not gonna wanna go. But I don’t think that’s the truth.
