USDOT fines for airline consumer violations have often been a fraction of potential penalties. Last year, Air Canada (AC.TO), opens new tab agreed to a $4.5 million settlement to resolve a USDOT investigation into claims that thousands of air passenger refunds had been delayed. USDOT initially sought a $25.5 million penalty.

This may take some company users a full windows re-install if they cant boot in safe mode and recover that way. Another note: its strange they don't have a system simulator room to test the patch or updates for a duration then issue the software in order from basic to critical impact systems.
@writerpatrick3 ай бұрын
If you can't reboot in safe mode then either you need to replace the OS or the user.

Haha nice one .just to give u an extra bit of data. 'Crowstrike Falcons' is an EDR s/w(Endpoint detection and response) one of the many cyber seciruty tools to mitigate unauthorized access to computer n/w 's and systems mainly for large scale businesses and not intended for personal users and personal computers because they cant afford it and they don't need it.

As layman with no technical background, one would presume with any new "update" one would use it in a phased and with some test live systems before it is massly distributed. Would this not be possible with whatever this update was? Major systems seem to have been affected, critical systems like 911, medical databases, people's online bank account, airline ticketing system, people's home systems, etc,. This is very dangerous as who knows what else might be affected and further ramifications. There are already too many data breaches causing many Americans major financial issues/losses. Do Americans now need to be worried about IT companies causing issues with regular system updates?

CrowdStrike’s recent downtime is ironically eroding the financial savings it promises to secure for companies against hackers. Companies invest in security after hearing about others losing millions to cyberattacks, only to face similar operational disruptions themselves. For instance, a company might avoid a $2M hack by using the software, but then suffer greater losses due to downtime-potentially costing more than the original threat they aimed to mitigate.

It's not going to happen. There's no way the company could afford the amount of damages companies would be seeking, and there's probably a EULA for the software who's primary purpose is in protecting against lawsuits when something goes wrong.
