I am pretty new to runehammer, but so far I have found ICRPG and EZD6 to be amazing. With that being said, watching this video and hearing you discuss 'rolling under' really resonates with me. Everytime I have played Cairn, Runecairn, and especially Black Sword Hack I cannot explain why but rolling under in those systems has alway felt extremely natural and for some reason lends itself to more cinamatic and explainable combat and party interactions. I cannot quantify exactly what it is about it....but I know one thing I am definetly going to have to give this a go now and I am really excited. Thank you for everything you are contributing to ttrpg.

I stumbled across this. Never been an ICRPG (good product, just not for me) but this looks like my jam! I love that you're innovating the hobby. I love roll under games. So much more intuitive than a random DC that the DM picks. Attrition makes total sense. Way better than being at "full capability" while still at 1hp. Very much a fan of index card rpg and just the general concept of playing a game and telling a story with the bare minimum amount of prompts and overhead. Loving this concept of skills & items deteriorating as you suffer harm. Gives it a tinge of realism compared to hit points and really provides a tangible reflection of the dangers presented to players. Can’t wait to get my hands on the full book! Rock on!

Thank you very much for making the free rules sneak peak. I read it last night and I must say it was very well written. The sneak peak oozes with flavour and the ideas for countless hours of adventure are definitely there. Mechanicly..I am not 100% sold on the deteration of skills and equipment to represent attrition. Why did you not just give them a health pool or...pain threshhold. I will definity check this out when ot becomes available . Is there a ETA for buying this??

because, in short, abstraction. abstract 'when you gonna die?' points dont inflict any real pain until the moment of death. CROWN takes the stance that death can be somewhat distant, but every hit hurts. Pre-sale will launch soon!

@@Runehammer1 I think the attrition system hits that sweet spot of making each hit from the monsters feel harmful without immediately throwing the PC into a death spiral. I also found in my own little solo playtests of PCs vs skellies that crossing off skills and equipment helps inherently infuse the combat with narrative detail in how each hit impacts the character. Lost your bow? The Elite smashed it out of your hands with a mighty blow! Crossed off your Jump skill? The skeleton sliced your leg with it's jagged blade, nearly hobbling you! It's got that flavor baked right into the mechanics.

Having read the document, at first, I wasn't in favor of the system. Skill based characters aren't usually my thing. Until I considered the Flat Roll as an opposing roll against chaos. The DC of the flat roll is whatever the GM rolls on a d20, which is near doom if the GM rolls a 2 and the PC has to pray roll below that. The skills in this game simply let the PC have some control over their Target DC and thus are their shield against Chaos! That is, until they start losing skills to Attrition!

flat rolls, as written, should not become a generic 'roll to do X' ... asmentioned in skills, many feats are simply not attemptable without a suitable skill

They act in one phase but tactics multiple times. So roll on the tactics table 3 times in that one phase. I think.

Just a little confused. If I'm trying to roll a def vs serpent with Att 3 how come I get minus 3 to my roll? Surely that makes it easier to roll under my defence? Def 10, roll 13 but have -3 so would be 10?? Surely I'm missing something here
