This is a common problem with Crown CE1000 and CE2000 amps. Most Crown amp are a good product but this series was a dud. You may want to think twice before buying one on craigslist.

Shameful on crowns part, I have one of these duds too and was hopeful I could get it up and running after watching this video, thanks for the heads up, I won’t be wasting my time after seeing this.

So I just want to say thanks for putting this up. I was actually able to fix one of these units, and your little tutorial was very helpful. I pulled it apart, found a couple 47uOhm resistors, a 6.2 ohm resistor, replaced them, and what do you know!

Here Crown international truly show their reign of total incompetence! It is not just a matter of production cost, it is a total prod. design flaw! Even if it is repaired, the weight of the cooling finns will eventually crack the resistors, the layout is so totally wrong that it is prone to self destruct, i e should the tiny band cable come loose from the input board, the IC´s will burn and are very hard to get at. This amp series will eventually self destruct, it is only a matter of time!

In their day most decent dealers in this area steered customers away from them...they were low line junk if they survived the warrantee period you had a half decent one.

So just turn it off, open cover and start pawing around inside right? No regard to high voltages ? :)

I’m dizzy with the camera work, and was not a repare, just a disassembly.

Wondering if the ut1010 suffer the same issues? I have one that does the same thing, haven't taken it apart yet. Customer states "he thinks it's the fan". I'm am automotive technician and told him if only lol into the fan motor lol
@clintronicsrva4 жыл бұрын
UT1010 is basically the same unit. If the protect lights are blinking its not the fan. If the fan is bad the unit will run normal until the temp sensor senses the heat building up from the fan being bad.

Yep, many of these ended up like this and are pure junk/not worth repair :(

Hey, a friend dropped off the same amp for me to work on a few days ago, it has the same exact components blown on the same channel as this one. Was just wondering if you know what causes this failure, did they just under rate the emitter resistors, or is it another component that causes them to go? Any info you could provide would be great. Thanks!

design flaw (what the flaw is I dont know). When we used to send these back to Crown under warranty they wouldnt repair them they'd just send back a different model amp

Is this the same for the ch1 models? I just bought one and both the faults and clip lights are on for both channels. It looks identical inside.

pretty much. there are several units that use this circuit board.

@@clintronicsrva Well I just took the board out. WOW that is a huge pain to do! I can't find a single thing wrong with it. Not sure where to look now. Nothing smells / looks bad anywhere.

@@jondoe6618 check for dead shorts across the output transistors. You might have an amp thats fixable.

@@jondoe6618 dont try and power up the circuit board outside of the case. Theres a special wiring rig that crown sold that ties all the grounds together for testing it. yes another pain in the ass.

yeah true. but you have to use what people will be searching for and some repairs do end up in the junk pile.

Porque su toma tierra está bien, hay lugares en las que la toma de tierra de los enchufes está defectuosa o mal hecha, en ese caso, el amplificador se quemará.

crown amps just arent built like they used to be... Back in the day, When you owned a crown, You knew you owned reliability and power... Huge monster cases, cram packed with goodness.. These days, They look cheapy cases, and the internals are pretty garbage..
