Yeah I focus on the acting. But I tend to take it one step further and where each character has their own SPECIFIC SET OF RULES for how they will move and turn and act. An angry flamboyant character acts and moves very differently from an angry shy-introvert character. One flails and exaggerates their expression shouting while the later sits and sulks.

I know it's not good animation etiquette, but I completely ignore the "Leave each keyframe of mouth visible for more than one frame" rule. I like making sure every distinct mouth position is included in every sentence, so no matter how fast a character says "The" there will always be at least one "TH" mouth frame.
@CrownePrince8 жыл бұрын
I don't follow it either, but that's because I sync with one's on occasion, and like you I'm paying attention for those distinct sounds.

Purplechu well anything that just uses a mouse would use a tablet I'm sure and I imagine it uses layers saying I hear they put animation frames in it. However I haven't tried myself so wouldn't be sure myself because I also used Gimp :)

I remember I was watching the anime “Soul Eater” with my brother and his girlfriend at the time, and one character always has earbuds on at full blast and can’t hear anything. Apparently the character can still understand people by reading their lips. Then I said, “How can you do that if your mouths just open and close?” My brother and gf were dying with laughter!

The mouth position in Japanese animations, especially when the character is still and talking in an average tempo, is a bit easier because of the need for only three mouth positions. The A sound = Open mouth The E/I sound = Stretched mouth The O/U sound = Rounded mouth

Heyo! This was a nice and helpful video, so thanks for making this! As a random little note from me, I typically add “cushion” frames when a wide, open mouth shape transitions into a shape where the teeth are together. What I mean by “cushion” is a shape where the lower jaw is very slightly higher than the previous frame to make it look less unnaturally sharp while still giving it a crisp feel. Just a random thing my animation teacher taught me

I would like to add something about mouth shapes. If you are in a chorus program you will probably already know what I’m going to get at from this little hint. Make sure that while animating singing that your mouth is taller for more “mature” sounds and can be more open when it is quite, especially on high notes.
@CerridwenVids8 жыл бұрын
Funny, I think when you're creating a character, drawing or animating one there will always be a certain degree of acting. It's an obvious statement, but I find it really intriguing. Makes me wish I did more drama lessons when I was little.

Usually I tend to take the whole cheap anime method and put my own spin on it. Usually I just do two or three frames for the whole face and move it accordingly. It's used in a lot of high-budget anime, and it actually really works for someone like me who sucks at lip-syncing

Great explaining about lip-syncing :) I guess I best understand mouth master. For one I animate 3D, which I guess could save key frames of shapes and use that like the typical cartoon style but I like going for the best quality which I will say I actually block out the mouth rough shapes first when I animate to dialog. Than just like 2D having to hand draw the whole face expressions with the lip-sync I do in 3D :) always wonder if anyone else would understand 3D as well or am I just the only one here that does?
@Paego_8 жыл бұрын
lip syncing -shudder- I've never been that good at drawing mouths (or dynamic expressions in general) so I have a LOT of practice to do before I even consider animating talking! But it's always cool to understand the mechanics behinds animation.

Since this is 3 years old, I wanted to kind of add an extra note (everything else is best, but just going to add something for changing the mouth every other frame): I mainly animate the mouth like so, but sometimes I may draw over the first version of the mouth on the next frame, making it a tiny bit different than the other (but this is optional). I found it best to draw a second version of the first mouth, making it seem more “defined”. But yeah, just wanted to add that note. QwQ

Okay so a very easy way to get into lip syncing is by having 1 open mouth and one close mouth. You can then import your audio, and just have your character open in close your mouth every word. It works okay but is a good way to get into lip syncing. This is like cheap animate but cheaper.
@rudestbuster86638 жыл бұрын
Heh. Since I'm starting to animate with Flipnote, I'm starting off with practicing the "cheap anime" style because it's easier to make. Soon I'll be able to make the typical cartoon.
