CRT Chronicles: 50 Year Old Zenith E1335 Restore then Super Mario World (SNES)

Someone had tossed this 1972 set to the curb. A little TLC (bad rectifier tube, dry solder joints at speaker, static in pots, filth) and it was back in order, and looks great for some monochrome SNES action!

Great stuff, Matt. B&W TVs have a certain charm to them, don't they? They also have a clearer picture than color sets because of... what's it called... masking?

I just bought one of these. It seems to work well. I get "snow" on it and the CRT is really bright. The only thing is, I only get a white screen and only audio through the VHF input. No video through the VHF. I know TV's are incredibly complex. Any thoughts on what to replace or look at first? I'm going to try to find the SAMS. Thanks.

Play around with the channel knob, even turning it slowly and stopping "between" channel 2-3-4 back and forth. I found mine was quite sensitive and would sometimes go in and out with video. It doesn't really have an indicator of what channel you are on so takes some guesswork (you can see in my video what the knob looks like when tuned to channel '3' even though '2' is at top). There is also the fine-tune adjustment ring around that, which you will want to experiment with. A lot of times that is all that is needed to bring picture back if you only have audio. Also make sure that your VHF connection works fine on a known good set on channel 3 so you can rule out any other equipment. Good luck!
