If you are going to buy SATA SSD.. you can buy Superior Samsung 870 Evo 500GB SSD (well they are not available in cheap).... They have 512MB LPDDR4 Cached DRAM.. and 3D TLC NAND Flash Chips... If you are in budget.. No Doubt Crucial MX500 500GB is best SSD for now.. it also has DDR3L 1866Mhz 16bit 512MB DRAM Cache a d 64 Layer TLC NAND flash... Well if you see from my point of view.. a normal consumer will never see the difference between DRAM less SSD and DRAM SSD.. so if you just do casual use... Just go for crucial BX500 480GB version.. it will do the job fine... And is quite cheaper than other competitors.. If you are professional user.. and do professional works.. or a content creator.. or do very important work... Go for Crucial MX500 or Samsung 870/860 Evo... (Rarely Used WD and Kingston so can't say anything about them.. )

as far as Motherboard Have SATA port... yes SSD will work fine... G41 Chipset ssupports SATA 2 (3GBPS) so you will get close to 240MBPS (which is still better than Hard disks)

Crucial MX500 is better than WD Green.. because WD Green is DRAM less SSD and Sometimes reports shoes WD started mixing QLC flash in WD Green SSDs.(rumers not confirmed) and Crucial MX 500 is DRAM Cache SSD with TLC Flash so it's better and more robust

SLC NAND Flash Is very very expensive.. and less dense... they are not available to any consumer SSDs these days... You are talking about SLC caching... Where Each cell is used as SLC writing mode... To get the fastest writing speeds in SLC caching mode.

@@PCbolt17 First of all Crucial is misleading by writing 360 TBW on all models. But if you deeply research on crucial website, you will find that 250gb model has 100 TBW, 500gb Model has 180 TBW and 1tb model has 360 TBW.

According to your mentioned write cycles I can say It's 80TBW not 100.. cause They used same Chips in Multiple Configuration for different SSDs.. so 80TBW for MX500 250GB.. you can write to crucial for fixing what they have written... Or add the source where it is specified... That Crucial MX500 250GB have this much Write Cycles.... (Should be genuine source thought)

I have purchased crucial MX 500 and installed in my HP PAvilion Gaming laptop, the ssd is workig fine but it has issue with crucial storage execeutive. Whenever I am starting the software it is showing the ssd but whenever I am clicking at any option such as driver details the it says "operation aborted by drive" and then the software stops showingh the ssd. can you please confirm if your mx 500 is getting properly detected by the crucial software?

Simply go with Crucial BX500 (not MX) with Disk caddy.. Because.. Old laptops don't really pushes limits of a good SSD.. so BX will be fine.. And having more storage is always a +1... So The HDD.. Go with This option.. BX500 240GB + Caddy
