An even bettter idea is taking the bolt off the battery connector, but leaving the connector attached. This will allow you to see the lights and stuff turn on, but due to a poor connection, it will make an audible click noise and all the lights will turn off when you attempt to turn it over. a nicer twist for car prank is something that kind of give hopes.. but it's not working: Remove the camshaft speed sensor plug (some cars will not start without it.. it will crank, but no start.. no harm done, either.. the computer just goes huh? and will not inject anything into the engine - mostly for diesel engines it's true) For old cars with carburetors: disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter.. it will go for a few seconds but will die very soon as it will run with very small amount of fuel from the level chamber of the carb and that's it. For turbo cars.. check the air intake for the choke valve (it's a normal open valve that partially closes when EGR needs to be done and to lower the intake pressure done by turbo so exhaust gases can be recirculated.. so this valve is actuated by vacuum and has a lever on the actuation side.. a zip tie on this choke will close the choke and the engine will starve for air.. so starts but when you want to move it will die torque less.. a bit more revving and maybe you can get it to like 30km/h painfully. The last one may cause minor harm.. because the injectors will be running full steam the mixture will be very rich before the O2 sensors comes into play (when it heats up and tells the computer is way too rich of a mixture and lowers the fuel injected. Or just invert two spark plug wires from two cylinders for the fun.
