The biggest difference between this Cruella and Joker is that in Joker the movie takes the time to show why he does what he does without excusing or condoning his behavior. The movie also shows his flaws, that there are consequences to his actions, and that no one in their right mind would want to be The Joker, not even The Joker. This is in stark contrast to Cruella, where she is good at everything and even when she is rude or cruel to people that don't deserve it (which is often) there are no consequences for her, no one calls her out, and it turns out that she was magically justified all along.

Imagine if Cruella (portrayed by Glenn Close) is lying to a film director that this 2021 prequel film is her true story. If you dont know the Cruella from 101 Dalmatians, I think this movie was actually great. At least I felt this way. It had its moments and I had fun, watching it. BUT as I know who I was watching, becoming a fashion icon, I began to ask myself - HOW is this still Cruella? How is the woman at the end of this movie going to become a dog-skinning monster, who she was in the old movies? The dogs she stole - she never seemed to have a problem with them. And the post credit scene even implied that Pongo and Perdita were siblings?! Like WHAT?! And I may even have found a plot-hole nobody else realized: Remember the scene from the animated movie where she just cringed at the spotless Dalmatian puppies? If one of Cruellas Dalmatians ever had had puppies, she would have KNOWN they were born without spots. Jasper and Horace were golden in this one, but completely out of character in comparison to the old movie. So far from my end. I liked it as a standalone adventure, but it was less then badly executed in terms of character development

Genuinely the worst use of licensed music I’ve seen in a while. The sheer amount of songs and the way they are used without being thematically relevant is just terrible. I believe the movie might have been a bit less horrible if it wasn’t just “hey look, 70’s music” Take American Psycho for example, more precisely the scene where Bateman kills Paul Alan. The use of “Hip to be square” is linked directly to Patrick’s attempts to blend into society to the point of being barely distinguishable from his peers. First off, the title speaks for itself, Bateman sees blending in with the crowd as desirable. The interesting part is the discussion he is having about it. The wording he uses to communicate about his opinions always seems fake. It seems like he’s just quoting a critique from a magazine, connecting back to “Hip to be square”. What I’m saying is Cruella is stinky.

If all villains are "misunderstood" I think a movie about the Baroness would be more interesting: The baroness had a normal childhood, living as a lower middle-class in London. Then WWII struck and her father went off to join the Navy and dies, leaving her and her mother to fend for themselves. Then the German air raids on London destroy her flat and her family is now destitute and homeless. She pulls torn clothing from the wreckage and stiches them together just so she and her mother have something warm to wear in the cold British winters. As she does this, she finds out that she has a knack for fashion and her designs start attracting the attention of the wealthy, who commission her to create new and unique clothing for them. Then we find out that she really hates fashion, like completely despises it. She hates how creating clothes reminds her of the days when she could barely afford to eat. She hates the people she makes clothes for who throw around money like it's nothing, while people are dying in the streets from poverty. But between the decisions of earning money through fashion or abandoning it, she chooses to make money because she never wants to be poor again. This resentment and self loathing eventually leads her to start mistreating those around her as she "tries to stick it" to the fashion industry. Slowly she begins to lose her morals as her behavior starts becoming more and more ingrained into her personality. There is no happy ending to this story. It's simply a tale of a woman who sells her soul to the devil out of a fear of not being able to survive.

I am literally writing a book and somehow this has some small things that match up kind of closely my villain was literally inspired by Cruella de Vil, almost a full year before this movie even came out! like her always sticking out, having everything taken from her, working her way up in the fashion business, slowly going mad, revenge, and almost right down to her house burning down! not to mention her husband's niece inherited the family estate and heirloom which turns out to be a f**king key! which leads to a box which contains a book and essentially tells her a secret which her family has tried to keep hidden
@madbrosheo15143 жыл бұрын
They give her asymmetrical white and black hair, but making her birth name “Cruella” nah, that’s just too unrealistic.
@enfieldlammergeier3 жыл бұрын
Asymmetrical white and black hair could be real in theory - there are two mutations that could be responsible for that. 1) Chimerism. Chimerism is when one of the non-identical twins dies and is absorbed by the other non-identical twin, resulting in a patch of flesh having a different genotype than the rest of the body. This one seems unlikely in Cruella’s case, as in order for her to have black and white hair she would have to have one parent with black hair and one blond parent (which she didn’t). 2) Piebaldism. Piebaldism is basically partial pigment absence that results in a patch of skin/hair being white. This one looks more likely to appear (as piebaldism is way more common than Chimerism and actually makes sense in the context). So, theoretically possible.

While watching this movie, I definitely agree with you that Emma Stone manages to excellently work with what she's given, as shit as it is. I honestly thought there were some interesting things in this movie, but it was more of a "Has potential" and "poor execution" feeling throughout.

@@isaiahsimmons5776 I'll do you one better ad tell you several good things about it for starters, the score the shots and framing Joaquin Phoenix's acting the themes Making Arthur a sympathetic and relatable protagonist/villain depicting Arthur's downward spiral The anti-establishment themes of the movie the commentary of the establishment and their demonization of the poor and downtrodden. The many parallels the movie makes between it's world and the real world etc etc. It isnt the best movie in the world, but probably the best or second best movie of 2019 (though I think Parasite might beat it out). I mean, hell, theres a reason the media didnt want anyone to watch the movie, because the movie constantly trash talks the media and it's demonization of the disenfrachised.

I literally have never ever seen 101 Dalmatians the whole way through. And as far as Disney goes, it's a movie that's almost never talked about either. So the fact that Disney thought it was smart to make an entire show, movie, whatever, based off of the villain of said unimportant movie, is baffling. I have literally no interest in the slightest in the original movie, why the hell would I want to see a terrible live action adaptation of the unmemorable villain? If you ask me, the only thing keeping Disney from dying is Marvel and Star Wars, and Star Wars is slowly dying too thanks to the shit show that was the Rey Trilogy. Screw Disney dude.

This movie reminds me of Maleficent, where they take an established villain and give them a tragic backstory to make them "relatable" and "misunderstood" only to come across as empty and pretentious. And just like Maleficent, it sucks.

There's no amount of backstory that can justify hurting an innocent person to get back at the guilty party. Idk why Disney thought that Maleficent could be relatable.

5:31 Dude Mafia 3 is legit one of the my all time favs. I can also agree looking at this review that the movie is a literal a quirky discounted spin off of Spec Ops: The Line if Walker just escaped dubai. I actually watched the movie twice with my friends and for my first time watching it, I didn't really mind it even after the second time. You did actually opened my eyes from what I could take from this review and It's sad to say but Disney could've made the movie so much better if they had more emphasis on Cruella's mental state with her being psychotic at the end of the movie, thus leading to what we would've had with 101 dalmations. Great review btw man, keep it up!
