Definitely a good idea not to show results of the election on your cruise. Everything is far too volatile right now. And if this is anything like 4 years ago, it will probably take days. And I would never remove tipping because someone did not agree with me politically. That’s crazy.

I agree with Carnival. Yes, it’s an important election but with such division I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be some remarks that could lead to trouble. Nobody wants their vacation ruined. Watch the results in your room and leave your emotions there.

We were on the NCL Joy in September and were in Cagney's (just inside the restaurant) when the medics were called to the bar area between Cagney's and LeBistro. There was blood all over the floor by the bar and someone was taken away in a wheelchair. We asked the bartender, after dinner, what had happened - he shared that the two men were arguing about politics and one smashed a glass into the other's face. When the argument started to escalate the bartender called security which didn't arrive until blood was spilled. Do I think the election results should be shown in public places on cruise ships - heck no.

It’s why we have, in the Constitution, a secret ballot. Just because you wear a button, hat, t-shirt or have yard signs doesn’t mean that’s who you voted for. I’m old. My dad, when he went to work for the company he worked for his whole working life, he had to sign a legal paper he was or would be registered with a certain party. It was legal then. How he voted he never told anyone. Oh just because a certain party, any party, helps you register doesn’t mean you have to register with or vote for them. My dad was born in 1910.

Here’s some additional information on the late Princess cancellation, as we were on the prior repositioning cruise. From the start of our 21 day cruise, one of the 4 generators was not working but the ship was able to sail using the 3 remaining generators. Three days before the end of the cruise we also had a power outage for 30-45 minutes or so. I’m sure there are other factors I am not aware of, but I question why Princess waited so late to arrange for maintenance and cancel the next cruise, given all the issues they seemingly knew about weeks ago. IMO they should have given more than 25% FCC, especially given the late notice.

We were booked on the Utopia of the Seas on October 28th. We received an email the day before the sailing notifying us of the change of itinerary. We’ve been to Labadee 15 times so I called Royal and asked about a refund and we were refunded 100%! Love RCL 👍

As one who will also be cruising during the election, and on Carnival at that, I am so glad that this is the decision they came to. Sadly, people have proven that they can’t be trusted to act like civilized adults and we’re all going to be stuck together on a ship at sea - not the time or place for public discord. Funny that there was mention of the Super Bowl by a commenter. We sailed right before the last SB. I had bought myself a little souvenir while in port supporting my team and while I wore it on the ship, a grown man got soooo mad that he started threatening violence and his companions had to calm him down. I am a middle aged woman who was on the elevator with her kids at the time. In fact, it was my son who noticed his vitriolic attitude and felt he needed to step between the man and myself while I was oblivious. So yeah, if a dumb football game can make people nuts, I certainly don’t want to see what this election will do. People need to chill, especially while on vacation

As a tipped worker, the staff member could have kept his opinion a bit neutral. Yes he has a right to express it, but should be prepared to potentially have consequences. Maybe not fair, but a possibility.

Tony, I think the problem people are having with Princess giving a 25% FCC is that they see what other cruise lines have recently done in a similar situation. RC reportedly gave 100% FCC in the same situation just a few weeks ago. Also, travel insurance doesn't cover the loss of PTO that was scheduled specifically for this cruise and may be much too late to change. Sure, people will still get the time off, but it may be way too late to find an alternative vacation. So many people have very limited time off and that's a big issue for them when their cruise is canceled on such short notice.

Proper compensation for me would be 100% refund with all travel expenses refunded and 100% future cruise credit. Yes, I believe in trip insurance and always travel with it, but in this case Princess was out of line in their timing to offer what they did.

I agree with you, but what nobody is also mentioning is the time off from peoples jobs. Most people request off for their vacations months in advance. That time off doesn’t just magically get credited back.

Codos carnival. Nothing good can come from showing election results. Obviously with technology today, people will know. I couldn't imagine being on a confined ship during election. I love cruising. I was on a cruise earlier this month. Only one side was obsessed with making sure you knew who they were for. It’s like their political party is their personality. I was a little shocked and disappointed. I was vibing with some people until they got political after a few drinks. Not to mention those wearing the gear. Good decision Carnival.

When Princess cancelled our cruise in 2022 after final payment, it took them six months and lots of phone calls to get our money back. We were not offered any additional compensation.

Because of the high prices, I was able to divert our cruise from Royal inside cabin to Princess balcony. We went from older ship to brand new.

With such a short cancellation notice, 25% seems far too low. Generally speaking, cruise plans are made months if not years in advance, and last minute changes by the cruise line should be rare to non existent. That being said, we love cruising on the Regal and have done a departure out of Galveston as well as Southampton. Besides the availability of shore power in Seattle, MSC will start offering cruises out of Seattle in 2026. If they status match, we might try one.

I am glad that the cruise lines were prudent about the election results. A cruise ship is a vacation, not a political rally. If you really want to know there are ways to get the information. You can sit in your room and watch it. There are news channels on board of every ship I have ever been on so it is available. Would hate to have altercations or people jumping overboard over the results, lol. Crazy ass world we are living in.

I support not showing the results on the big screen. I hate to say it this way, but Carnival is becoming known for brawls on board. Candidate A wins and you support them and you celebrate. A supporter of candidate B, who has made sure to get their money's work of the beverage package, takes offence at your celebrating starts a fight. It could get out of hand quickly.

Most people will not be that relaxed when the results get going. It is one of the most important elections this century, and it seems to be on a knife edge. A lot of non Americans who don't live anywhere near the country are tensed up as well. Getting people to watch in their cabins is a safety measure. I can imagine if it was on a pool deck with a lot of drunk people. A cheer would go up for the winning of one candidate, which would infuriate about half of the watchers. All it would take would be for someone to jeer for a fight to break out.

The biggest problem with a cruise cancelation is the vacation time that was put in for cruise. Not to mention, it's hard to make last minute plans to compensate for that vacation time that will be lost.

I was in Club Med in the Bahamas in 1979. They did not allow any news to interrupt your vacations. During my trip Jimmy Carters cabinet resigned. So there is a precedent.

I remember we were on a cruise during the 2016, and Carnival did not show them, so the casino basics empty out to watch it in the their room. After the results, you could tell by the faces who were happy😄
