Lovely ruins on St. Thomas and St. John. History in stone. Beyond the salt-bright curve of the shore, the hills rise, heavy with silence. No longer carved by the sharp blade of labor, they are softened by the persistence of green. Noni fruit swells in the forest shade, the branches' tired arms arching over what remains- walls fractured and sinking, time, unhurried and just, turning sugar back to soil, stone back to dust. The sea wind in the forest. in the dark of the leaves, in the stillness of broken walls, and in the rain, soft and steady, turning salt to soil, dust to soil, plants to soil to future growth. I will never forget my visit to St.John. As I was taking a taxi to a cooking class at Nicole’s Table (highly recommended); the taxi driver exclaims “We have 70 beaches and you want to go cook in the mountains!”😂 Best hours spent that vacation hands down!
