I was on the QE2 for a transatlantic crossing in 1996. We had 50 foot waves for more than a day. They slowed the ship to make it more comfortable so we later getting to NYC than expected. Cunard rescheduled our air flights for us. We were told that if we weren’t on an ocean liner (!) we would be stopped by the waves or going backwards. During a subsequent cruise, I attended a lecture about rogue waves and other weather phenomena on the sea. It scared me! I doubt if I will sail again, but the times aboard are great memories.

Indeed QM2 is an ocean liner and not a cruise ship and she was designed to handle those ocean waves. It’s the only way to cross the Atlantic! You can find a great documentary video on KZbin that explains the design. In 2016 I did a crossing from Southampton with my sister and towards the end the captain announced that it was the smoothest crossing in QM2 history.

Seeing those rough seas takes me back to my Navy days. It may have been the only time I was glad that I had a bottom bunk.I hope that one person will be okay.

Mornin' Doug! Rough stuff with a rogue wave large enough to cause serious injuries. Prayers for all. Thanks for producing such a great cruise news program. It's part of my morning routine. Have a great weekend!

Not a wave, a high wind. Plates weren't flown around, they slide. Don't fall for the hyperbole

As a local and a veteran, I would have loved to been part of the celebration onboard the Elation. We have sailed six times on the Elation out of Jacksonville and we are glad to see it will remain homeported here. Great news!

Good morning Doug. Are you sure that Jacksonville only handles 150 guest annually, as you stated at 1.54😂
@kylel43617 сағат бұрын
Doug, do you think Jacksonville will get a different Carnival ship anytime? I like the Elation but have cruised on it 4 times already. I wish Carnival would rotate ships sometimes, and yes I understand Jacksonville can not have a ship that is much bigger.

I know a couple who are that cruise right now, 35-foot swells, 70 mph winds. The cruise has been extended for 3 days. He being an avid golfer is not happy; his wife is in her element.

Deferred maintenance! We just got off of the princess regal and the ship was filled full of deferred maintenance. Lights that were burnt out elevator that didn’t work on and on the list went on. I’m not surprised that this is happening to regal princess. By the way, The crew was very unhappy. That was my impression.

I don't see why more cruise ships sail out of JAX. Especially since they can go to Bermuda faster than from NYC or BOS.
