Logos From Around The World - Episode #2 - Indonesia

The second episode of my international film logo series is here! This episode I compiled on consisted the idents that were presented from various films from Indonesia. Also, note that these studio logos are initialized P.T. (Perseroan Terbatas), meaning limited company that is divided into a handful of shareholders.

The logo at 10:32 is PPFN or Pusat Produksi Film Negara or,in english: State Corporation of Film Productions. During Indonesia regime of Suharto (1966 to 1998), PPFN is the main film production house to produce information films for public, newsreel, or for the most cases, state propaganda. Since 1981 to early 90s, they were produced a very popular children show on state tv station, a hand puppet show called Si Unyil (The Unyil). Every episodes of Unyil started with this logo and music, too. In 1984, PPFN released a historical propaganda film (and very famous in Indonesia) named: A Treasonery Action of 30th September Movement, or in Indonesian: Pengkhianatan G30S. It is a propaganda film about a coup d'etat plan by the left communist wing in a way that they kidnapped and murdered some of high rank military generals, which is not totally true. The purpose of the film is a propaganda to praise and salute Suharto (a retired General, that time still a president). The film features many historical inaccuracies to feed audiences with the state false history. The film famous because the scene of generals murder made so real, bloody, and brutal, made so many children in that era scared and cried. Even until today. I tell you something funny: in Garut, West Java the film was very popular, there were 2 cinemas screen the same film. There was no cineplex in Indonesia during the time, so one cinema just have one screen and one grand hall that consist of 200-ish seats, 500-ish seats in the other first class cinema. People were packed to the cinema hall, from kids to adults, many of them bring their families. Every screening of that film started with the PPFN logo. Everybody in the cinema, including kids, were so happy and applause, they think they were watching the popular Unyil puppet show, just like at the tv. And a moment later, they watch a brutal film about general murders. Hahahaha.

Also, at the end, perhaps someday you can do Japan, I wonder what the classic idents of Japan has to offer us. Then, someday, go for Greece or perhaps at the Spanish region.

5:15 It's from Malaysia, not Indonesia. But the movie that came with the logo was first released in 1988 in Indonesia. Then, in January 1989, it was released in Malaysia, so that means that this logo is from January 1989. In Indonesia, it showed the PT Kanta Indah Film.

I know, these Indonesian logos used the same music pieces from the same library, and the effects are similar to HK's counterparts. That's the most interesting part of finding logos outside of the U.S.

In the year of 70s to 80s, many Indonesian films processed in Hong Kong or Japan film laboratory, which make that connection logic and possible, in my opinion. I heard so many comedy starring Warkop (famous comedy trio) during 80s using many music from Shaw Brothers productions.

P.T. is Indonesian version for limited private companies, like Sdn. Bhd. In malaysia or Pte. Ltd. In many nations

Rewatching this video, I see there's a huge HKer influence on Indonesian logos. A couple of them are direct rip-offs (what's with the filmstrip G? Seems so many Asian producers loved that logo).

Outside of the most interesting logo rip-offs from Southeast Asia, my guess is that Goldig Films have had a subsidiary in Indonesia under a different name. Not to mention, Shaw Brothers were also headquartered in Malaysia for sometime.
