Here's a quick video from a few years back, cruising with a friend in his '62 Jaguar E-Type 3.8. This is the purest one of the E-Types, powered by the XK 3.8 lt twin cam straight-six, putting out around 265 hp, when new. The XK engine first appeared in the XK120 in 1948, making it the fastest production car at the time with a top speed of 193 kph, when cars could barely do 80 kph without rattling to bits. Also, it helped Jaguar dominate sports car racing in the 50s, including other models like the XK140, the C-Type and the D-Type. With a few updates over the years, the XK straight-six had a very long lifespan, powering Jags all the way to 1992; an astonishing 44-year production run! Talk about "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
As for this particular example, she's been owned by the same owner for the past 35 years, and she gets driven quite often when the weather's nice. Here we're coming back from a visit to a local classic car garage, where, on the way there, we might've tested the top speed, which was far off the advertised 245 kph from the factory. And we, kinda, might've almost blown her up by pushing her a bit too far for her liking. She was really unhappy, and we had to engage manual limp mode to arrive to our destination (a.k.a. "don't go over 2,500 rpm, or else", message sent via water temp gauge). So, we're taking it easy on the way back! Good thing the 3.8 always sounds great, Lol
