The ol' 602 Continental has lots of grunt. A beautiful engine.

Wow, nice truck

I'm honestly surprised at how smoothly it rode on those ragged ass roads. Maybe not Cadillac smooth but not bucking and jarring all over the place.

Cruising thru Winchentucky, lol. You still got your rig? I've got a M54A2 and living up the road from Winchendon in Rindge

The gas engine is obviously quieter than it's turbocharged diesel and multifuel counterparts.

The diesel variations of these trucks still make more power,the R602 was awful on gas at getting 1 MPG too. The R602 is part of the R330-R883 Continental engines which were used in alot of Federal trucks and American La France fire trucks.Certain Brockway semi trucks had these gasoline engines in them as well.

@@Slim_Slid Both the R6602 gas engine and the LDS-465-1A multi-fuel engine are made or manufactured by Continental, is that correct?
@Slim_Slid4 жыл бұрын
@@Orvz475 The R602 was from Continental and the multi-fuels were made by Continental,Hercules,and White.Continental developed the engine and the other two were really just subcontractors.On the behalf of the Deuce And A Halfs and gas engines,Reo came out with the OA-331 which is what the M34 Eagle Beaver and M35 Deuce And A Halfs originally had,this was before the M35's became the A1 and A2 with the multi-fuel engines.The OA-331 was also made by Continental as a subcontractor.

@@Slim_Slid I like the 11.0L Mack ENDT-673 coupled with the synchromesh 5 speed overdrive transmission better on the M54 be it drop-side or not... But could it still be fitted with the 8.3L Cummins 6CT?
@Slim_Slid3 жыл бұрын
@@Orvz475 I wouldn't see why someone can't fit a 6CT in one of these trucks.I also would wonder why because the 12V 6CT doesn't make that much power anyways,it's still great and reliable,but it's a little low like the 6BT. The 5.9L & 8.3L were really just medium duty commercial truck engines and for certain construction/farming equipment on top of being marine as the 6BTA & 6CTA.The Ford F600's-F900's,G.M. Kodiaks/Topkicks,and Ford LFT8000's for example are what these engines would be in,obviously most of them having the 6CT's due to the torque over the 6BT's. The Mack Thermodyne was not just a M51A1-M348A1 military truck engine,the Mack B51's-B81's had them as well,they were heavy duty and the best of the best.Some of the B variants had Cummins and even the Mack Magnadyne gas engines.There was three different Thermodynes as the 11.0L,11.6L,and 14.6L,before they eventually were replaced by the Mack Maxidynes. The Eaton transmission in the five ton trucks was the 6352.

Very cool truck. Ive been looking for some continental gas powered truck videos. I'm young and new to big trucks, what causes the wine? Is it transmission? Is it normal?
@SonOfRDGear8 жыл бұрын
+kyle pries The whine is the transmission. Since the gears are almost-straight cut, they make a lot of noise. The fact that it's 60 years old doesn't help either, haha. Every one of these trucks are loud and uncomfortable, but that's part of the charm! Thanks for watching :)
