@@lexa_power really?! No im British. Ncl have pride of American which is made up of mostly American crew. I started with stiener in the spa and they interview everyone who has applied. I never meet any American crew as they still have to pay tax so it’s not worth it for them unless they are performers Xx

I really want to work in the excursions department but when I applied it said I wasn’t eligible because I only know 2 languages 😢 is there any department or job I can get as an American with no experience and only speaking English and Spanish? I don’t care if the pay is bad. I just want to get a foot in the door. Do you have any warm leads or actual ways for us to apply? Don’t care if I don’t make any money, just want the experience. How do we apply for these shops jobs? How do we get our resume to the top of the pile and realistically get these jobs? It seems like they don’t hire Americans from my experience as I’m applying for everything I see online at every cruise line, and I’m not getting a single call back or interview.

Lexa, before I get to the excursions department, I have a feeling that you're applying to cruise lines for jobs that they do not recruit/hire directly, as they contract-out most of the "jobs" on-board that most US/UK/EU folks are interested in. As Lucy mentions (in her career guides and in some videos), almost all cruise lines contract-out their retail space, spa/salon spaces, shopping ambassadors/port guides, etc., as well as most cruise lines also contract-out the casino, photo department, and art department/art auctioneer. For retail shops, Harding Brothers Retail and Starboard Cruise Services, handle all the management, recruitment, staffing, hiring, etc. of majority of the retail shops on-board cruise ships worldwide. And, you'd want to apply directly to these two companies for just about any on-board retail job. Steiner Leisure/OnBoardSpa/LondonWellness (whatever they call themselves these days, it's the same company) handles the on-board spas on most cruise lines. (the only other company I know of is Canyon Ranch Spas) You'd apply directly to Steiner (or Canyon Ranch) for any on-board spa position. For Shopping Ambassadors / Port Guides, these are generally recruited independently, and usually offered/headhunted....as most of these positions require years of experience in both promotions/public speaking and in retail sales....but if you think you have the experience / expertise, you should look to the 3 - 4 companies that contract these out to cruise lines....Onboard Media, PPI group, Royal Media Partners, and Diamonds International. As for casino jobs....Carnival has their own Carnival Corporation Casino Division for all their lines (Carnival, Princess, HAL, and I think Cunard), and it is this specific division that you'd apply to directly, not the general Carnival application...and, I'm not sure about Royal Caribbean? Other cruise lines contract out their casino operations, using Century Casinos and Casinos Austria, etc. as their casino operators, hence you'd need to apply to them. As for photo department, only Carnival/Princess cruise lines staff their own photo department. Other cruise lines contract out to Image Photo (I think is used by Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, NCL, Cunard, Azamara, etc.?) P&O used-to use The Ship's Photographer (and still might use them?), and Crystal Cruises used Paragon Pixels. And, while like the other jobs/contracting companies above, you'd want to apply to those directly...please note that since the pandemic and with rapid advancements in cameras in most "phones" the photo departments are being scaled-down. The on-board Art Department / Art Auctions have also traditionally been contracted-out to other companies, and while some say that you generally don't need vast experience in "art" to work these jobs, it definitely helps, and you won't be an "auctioneer" without prior experience. So, if you do have some art training, Fine Art Management handles the art sales on Carnival and HCL. Plymouth Auctioneering used-to handle the auctions on Carnival, NCL, etc....and, I think they still do? Whitewall Gallery was handling P&O and Cunard....with British American Auctions doing art auctions on Celebrity Cruises. With so many changes in our post-pandemic world and after much inflation / business changes, I'm not certain who/what companies are contracted for art departments, etc. with which cruise lines any more, but these are the ones that were doing so just a few years ago. Now as for working in the excursions department? This (along with food/beverage, hotel staff, cruise staff, housekeeping, ship operations/marine dept, etc.) contrary to the above jobs, are almost always recruited/staffed by the cruise lines directly. It shouldn't a surprise that Excursion Dept jobs are some of the most sought-after and competitive on-board! In addition to needing good physical stamina and being quick-to-learn, these jobs require BOTH great "people skills" and on-your-feet problem solving and organization abilities....(it's not about "selling", it's about "being there for the passengers", and the "selling" then comes pretty easy)... And, these jobs can also be filled from within, meaning people transition/transfer into the excursions department from other departments on-board....once they've established themselves and set themselves apart-n-above their peers. To be honest, "wanting" a job in the excursions department is wonderful goal, but you'll likely need to "pay-your-dues" in other positions first....so, applying directly for a job there probably will land your CV at the bottom of the pile, rather than the top. 😀 Lexa, please have a look at Lucy's career guides, and watch some more of her videos...and, I hope what I wrote here is of some help? If you really don't care how little you get paid / how hard you need to work, then you find yourself applying for housekeeping, cleaning, back-of-house food&beverage staff, etc...but, I get the feeling that most of my fellow Americans won't be applying for those positions. 😀
