In order to avoid having the glue continuing to come out after you finish squeezing, you have to trip the lever, or twist the plunger, or whatever it takes to release the pressure -- depends on your particular glue gun how this is done.

Cheers! Ha, I do (honestly!) know this really, I just didn't press it while holding the gun and waving it at the camera so it kept coming!

David, I'll apologize in advance here, but I laughed and laughed at this video!! Especially when you took a break to scream. I love your sense of humor! You ARE improving your DIY skills with each project. The reason I appreciate your DIY videos so much is that they are so reminiscent of the projects my husband and I do together. We never have all the parts we need....there is always SOME aspect that makes the project unlike the straightforward directions....the directions vastly underestimate the time it will take for the project.

I enjoyed watching this. Your DIY project went exactly the same as most of my own, where I start off positive and am then reduced to passive aggressive mutterings coupled with exaggerated metaphors whilst doing my level best not to swear. Very funny to watch when it's someone else doing it. You've also achieved a nice looking finish. Well done.

We have just spent several years totally renovating a 120 year old French longere, which now has 4 shower rooms, so i absolutely understand your frustration, screaming, use of great British expletives and need for alcohol. We also used "plastic panel" at an angle, but only cut the back and honeycomb leaving the thin front cover intact, then bent to to required angle, filled the open V shape in the rear with gunge and fixed into place. It negated the need to try and join half cut panels. Maybe you could try this when you next upgrade your shower.....lol. Anyway, great vid, loved your comments and the job looks perfectly acceptable. Stay safe, all the best/

As a seventy year old woman in Australia I have no clue about refurbishing a canal boat shower recess but as a sewer I understand your frustrations. The thumb of rule is you measure twice, cut once. I am constantly dismayed as to the depths of my stupidity while trying out something new or out of my comfort zone with sewing, however, if I hang on in there with it I usually have the job done. Your job looks terrific, glad there were no temper tantrums where you kicked the boards to bits (not while up against the tiles) and gave up. Now every time you have a shower you can feel a sense of accomplishment. Well done.

Looks well David. Only 2 things I would have done differently. Where you had to make the horizontal cut halfway down the wall, I would have scored the panel at the back and flexed it at the angle change. This would have left an unbroken surface. You could have possibly done the same for the corner moulding, And I think I would just cut a few inches off the top of the vertical shower rail so it would fit the existing screw holes. Regardless, it looks good and more importantly, should be very low maintenance. ….. and I’m so glad you went with s new rail lol…

Cheers. I didn't think of the scoring the panel back. As for the rail, it's such a cheap piece of plastic, it felt really brittle like it would shatter if I tried cutting it.

I'm another one that enjoyed watching your DIY project. I don't know why I find your adventures so compelling to watch, but I do....not that my life is boring, it just adds to it. Thanks for allowing us into your world.

This was hilarious to watch! Watching you do this reminds me why I hate DIY, I’d be making all the same mistakes and probably give up and call in the experts. Sorry I shouldn’t laugh, it just felt good to watch somebody else go through the pain I get during such projects. Rich

This is what DIY looks like for most of us. Having a plan in your head, then working out the little bits as you go along. Just finished scraping, sanding, recaulking, and painting my back door today. Same process. There's always something to learn from each project to file away for later.

Thank you David for another emotion packed DIY project. I sensed your level of exasperation was on par with your chimney removal Vlog, where you ended up beating the poor thing into submission in order to remove it. Given you are a perfectionist (I am also), you are being too hard on yourself because, the project didn't turn out exactly the way you were hoping. Actually, you did quite good concerning this was your first attempt. You didn't sink the boat, cut through pipes or wiring, and you didn't even have to go out and buy additional wall board due to cutting errors. I suspect the ceramic tile was doomed to crack from day 1. Tile is very brittle and has a different thermal expansion rate of the wood and steel. Additonally, wood expands with increasing moisture and ceramic does not. When the sun is shining on the starboard side of the boat, you will have uneven heating on the wall due to part of the wall being below the water line. Shower stalls can be frustrating to seal from the low level leaks you were seeing, as a little splash of the water can find its way into some amazing pathways to the outside. It's a good thing you noticed the wood discoloration and took action. If left unchecked for a few more years, the whole wood structure under the shower pan would need to be replaced due to rot. I always use stainless steel screws and silicone caulk in the shower areas. I'm sure you could have purchased some pipe nipples to allow the new valve set to reach the existing pipes in the wall. However, if the nipples are metal, they should be the same type metal as the valve set to avoid galvanic corrosion. That wallboard you used looked very fragile, any screws you ran through it should not be tightened such that it causes the wall board to flex. Over time, a crack will appear at the site of the flex point; meaning a potential leak. As far as wiping down the surfaces where you plan to put the adhesive, there is no need to buy that expensive stinky degreaser, just wipe everything down with rubbing alcohol using a paper towel. To conclude, you researched the project before hand and did a good job over all for your first attempt so, you should be proud of yourself. I'm sure you are enjoying taking a shower once again in your own bath, instead of using the one supplied by the marina. Enjoy that gin and tonic now with a nice cheese sandwich! -Cheers!
