I ALWAYS look forward to your video's for several reasons. I love your accent and how you exquisitely choose your words. Your video's are so calming to the senses, just wonderful to watch and listen to. Very informative also, as this way of life is not something common in America, I find it very interesting. Hi David, You were lucky with the volunteer Lockies. It makes it SO much easier when you're single handing. Having worked in IT all my working life and had to sit through so many presentations, I realised there were people who really knew their stuff, but couldn't present, some who could present but didn't know their stuff, but pretended they did, and some who could present well and accepted they didn't know everything...these were the best...and I hope you don't mind me saying, in terms of narrowboating you fit into that category perfectly. (Just in case you are in ANY doubt, this is meant as a huge compliment!) Cheers, Ronnie.

Loving your videos. Very inspiring to me in a different way. I live in the states, so traveling and living on the canal is out of the question, but can see myself living aboard in a houseboat, maybe off the coast of Maine. Also like that you give great detail of your location. Usually watch via a roku box on the tv, but follow your progress via google maps on the iPad. Really brings it alive for me.

Some 20 years ago, I cruised down from the direction in which you're heading and then turned RIGHT down the Coventry. Even then, I thought this to be an excellent, peaceful and empty stretch of canal. Your video does it full justice. Just wanted to mention that some of us actually enjoy being near the railway; strange but true!

Oddly, I don't really mind the railways either; I can happily sleep through them thundering past even close.

David my friend, another wonderful tale, much appreciated. We have been following your progress on our many Canal Companion Books which we keep close at hand. They act as further inspiration to our UK Canal Tour dreams by sitting at the ready on our coffee table. On our 4 Counties trip a couple of years ago we spent a few nights moored at the Great Haywood Marina which you are not far from now. A very nice place to stop, do the necessary including some desperately needed laundry as I remember. Keep them coming, absolutely love your Vlogs. Cheers

HI David, watched your clog on lock gate problems. Marian, my wife and I had the same problem with the same lock gates. Going up I was pulling my hair out, in the end I opened one of the top paddles to allow a flow through the lock. Very naughty I know but as I said I didn't know what else to do. Returning a few days later I used the stern rope that I'd removed to tie the gates together. At the end of the vlog you moored at the top of Farsley which is very pretty, unfortunately I was reading in the latest issue of Waterways World that HS2 is scheduled to pass very close to this position which will obviously spoil the whole scene. Just a quick thank you for your wonderful tales of your journeys as good look for the future. Cheers
@CruisingTheCut7 жыл бұрын
Hi. Glad to hear it wasn't just me. A few people have said I should have opened the paddles and let water flow but being solo, it would have flowed quite a bit by the time I ran back and pushed both gates shut so I didn't want to do that. As for HS2, I seem to have moored in several spots where there are HS2 planning notices pinned up, unfortunately. Cheers

It is a remarkable life you're leading David. "I'll just moor up here for a few days.." Is it always cup of tea time after you've moored up? Another great video, thanks. I have my boat on the Hunts lock moorings, the CRT moorings before the flight. They are as you describe very peaceful and there is a great little community of boaters there. There was a rash of vacancies last year and they do come up every now and again. We have been there 10 years now with three boats over that time. Great cruising routes also. Fradley has two personalities, busy (sometimes noisy) when all the visitors arrive, then as they depart tranquility arrives. Out of season its lovely all the time. There are also showers in the service block. Shame I missed you but hopefully soon to be joining your club !! BTW we crack a top paddle on Bagnall lock which does not move the gates but allows them to be closed and then after 10 seconds they stay shut.... but I like the umbrella options - inventive.
@CruisingTheCut7 жыл бұрын
You're very lucky, I really liked those moorings. Re the lock, as both gates swung themselves fully open, I didn't want to let even a bit of water flood through; it didn't seem that it would work unless both could be kept closed for a short time.

Yes, cut-down version -- no ukulele amongst other things. Started with an establishing shot of you at the helm, proceeded to a quick fire-side chat with Sarah then a few scenic shots before you disappeared into the sunset aboard your narrowboat (name plate blurred out you'll be happy to know) -- very good.
