"England just stopped existing." That's not quite true, Jon. What's actually going on is that England still exists, it's just that the King of Norway is now the King of both England and Norway. The Kindom of Norway is the represented title of his since that's what he has as his Primary title right now.
@BJAlker6 жыл бұрын
Yep. This can be important because depending on the kingdoms' succession laws, England and Norway could be inherited by different people. In this case, both are elective, so I think both kingdoms would have separate elections for their kings. Since Jon is a de jure subject of the kingdom of England, he should end up voting in that election, and become a vassal of whoever wins it (who may or may not also win the Norwegian election).
@JacobBanerjee28216 жыл бұрын

True. He won't get to vote now but if Earl Cadoc's descendants hold onto the title long enough, it will become de jure part of England in 100 years time provided he doesn't go independent or something. He'd be able to vote then but not anytime soon.

Here’s a tip: The “career traits” like grey eminence and thrifty clerk are picked up by children based on their educators. The level of the trait is the little dots at the bottom of the icon, so if your daughter is educated by a grey eminence (level 4) she will be educated as a level three charismatic negotiator.
@tylerpatt9506 жыл бұрын
Also a court physician’s skill is based on their learning level, and you can usually invite a better one from the find character menu
@ZanathKariashi6 жыл бұрын
That doesn't work with Conclave. In Conclave your guardian only affects what events choices are picked and if you'll switch culture/religion. Your characters base stat growth is based on whichever parent has the dominant marriage. Your Education type is picked directly at age 12 and the level is based on the characters "intelligence" plus any traits that are considered benefical/negative to the education. If you have an above average intelligence (such as Shrewd/Quick/Genius) + 2 beneficial traits and no bad traits, you have a 60% chance of a level 3 education and a 30% chance of a level 4 education (flipped if the child is genius vs the other two) and a 10% chance of a level 2 education. Physician skill is based on learning, their opinion of the person they're treating, as well as certain traits. Renowned Physician giving the best all around treatments and well tested treatments but more mystical titles actually work better for experimental treatments (though it is possible to have a Renowned Physician Mystic who is well rounded at everything vs say a Scholar which has better well tested results but worse experimental results). Hospital level of the capital also gives a boost to effectiveness.

A few things to note while he may be both the king of England and Norway because those are both existing titles (think of how you created the duke) the kingdoms may have different succession laws. That means when he dies its possible that the two kingdoms go to different people. This is important to keep in mind when you yourself hold multiple titles of the same rank, what he needs to do is destroy one of the titles so that so that both kingdoms land get inherited by the same person that helps keep the empire together so to say. Thats something you need to remember, only have two kingdom titles IF they have the same succession laws which can be checked by hovering over the title on the title bar when you click on a character.

@adammullarkey49965 жыл бұрын
28:40 Devon is under the king's direct control. The troops from Devon are just the troops that the city and the church are expected to provide. The troops you're sending from Cornwall are the troops provided not just from the city and the church, but also from your own castle. The only reason that you're beating Devon is that the troops from the castle in Devon are probably already in the King's main army, having been called up before the game started. In reality, Devon probably provided at least a hundred or so extra troops from the castle, in addition to the 18 troops that just appeared. That's more than from your own castle because it's under the king's direct control; you're only required to provide a small percentage of your army, whereas the castle in Devon, being under the King's direct control, will provide all of the troops it can (minus the local garrison, which can never be raised as a mobile army anyway).

There weren't ever any female earls during the reign of the Anglo-saxons, so there was never a need for a word. A female earl is a countess because that was the French word, and the Normans had already taken over by the time those were a thing. And no, earl isn't derived from jarl, it's a native word. They are related though.

Hi Jon, I have a quick tip: when you're laying siege to a place with almost no defenders, often due to recently changing hands (like Exeter having only 16 in this part), you can click the little sword icon in the siege screen to assault the holding. This makes it drop much quicker while causing you to take more casualties. Not recommended unless you have very superior numbers, but when they're down to a handful of defenders, it's pretty much instantaneous and you won't really lose anybody.

Just because you don't have the required laws to empower women, it doesn't necessarily mean women are useless in-game. You could use women for; educating children, marrying them to either yourself or a courtier, gaining cassus beli, and to f*ck via the specified focus. That's it I think, but those are some very good benefits. So with all this said, don't say they're useless! :p because they're actually very beneficial to your kingdom.. Ps. You could also get them to populate your court, but usually you wanna keep the number of people in your court at a minimum, as you want to usually keep the people that dislike you at a minimum.

Harold of England didn't die btw. He is still the duke of Essex last we saw him atleast. He lost his crown, and was taken as a captive by Harold of Norway, but he still retained his lower titles. Look at the Duchy of Essex and he'll be there, unless he died in captivity, in which case his son will be there, either way, with a strong claim on England, a rallying point for the future rebellions. :)

Really hoping it's a possibility to say, rebel and form your own Kingdom. Would be cool to see the Kingdom of Cornwall and the Cornish Empire rise, although becoming the King of England and raising an English Empire would be cool as well. Very intrigued.
@doxjr69796 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can declare independence. Though he would likely be killed instantly. However now that the king of norway is also the king of england the overall leader is spread thin and hated so it could be an opportunity to take land while every other english lord inevitably fights the king of norway/england. Something else to note is that in the part 2 to this a faction was made inside the country that supports the owner of mercia for the title of king of england. This is also something he can jump on and gain advantage because of.

I took over as Duke of Mercia, declared independence from William the Bastard immediately and got absolutely stomped on. I think at this point I should probably just try working my way into the line of succession for the throne of England.
@doxjr69796 жыл бұрын
Yeah, something that Jon touched on in part 2, planting your family inside of a line of succession, is a pretty neat trick if done right. I haven't been playing CK2 for long and have only done one murder plot but the idea of marrying a daughter into a matrilineal marriage with a third born and then killing off one and two isn't exactly implausible.
@lw.17306 жыл бұрын
Marcus Abraham I haven’t done too much in the way of plotting. Have seen some videos where there’s independence factions, and if the faction wins every member becomes independent. Seems like a surefire way to really cripple a dynasty, assuming you can win the war.

Re river crossings: each county will list its major and minor river and strait crossings with other counties considered its neighbors on its info window. (E.g., at about 50 minutes in, your looking at Oxford; midway down the pane on the right is a river icon. Hovering over it would give the counties it has water crossings with.) When two armies are about to clash across a terrain hazard, the UI will flag indicators (a green plus / red minus) for who will suffer what penalty or receive what buff on the crossed swords symbol.

A few tips for you: *you can tell you troops to retreat early by right clicking in a county behind them when they are engaged in battle, it might reduce the casualties of a battle you know you already lost *You can assault almost safely when you overwhelm the defenders of a siege by around 10x, it can make wars much faster *England still exists, but since Norway still is Harold's main title England show as Norway territory *Traits play a lot of importance in tutors for your kids, for instance if they are gluttonous kids raised by them are more likely to be gluttonous as well *The more prestige you have the cheaper is to create titles

I love this game. The future of a whole nation hangs in the balance, and then suddenly you have something happen that brings you back to your little corner of the world as the rest of the country is in chaos lmao

I've long thought of CK2 as Game of Thrones: Earth Edition. And in actuality, a Westross mod of the game was in fact created, complete with a map of Martin's world, and has become rather famous across the net. And no wonder: both the fantasy novels and game are about dynastic struggle and ambition, the stuff of human literature's greatest works, especially those of William Shakespeare ... the 17th Earl of Oxford.

Love how Jon thinks Anglo Saxon is alien when it was the main culture in England at the time. English culture only exists when a Norman rules over Anglo Saxons.

Jon, some quick things to point out that may help you down the line to avoid headaches from repeatedly headbutting your desk in frustration. Brace for incoming text wall: 1. Two people declaring war over the same title will be hostile to each other. This doesn't mean they are at "war" with each other, but it does mean their troops can fight each other--and so they can occupy and unoccupy settlements, as you saw here with Middlesex. Speaking of occupations, if you appoint a leader to your sieging armies, then they will get random events to help or hinder the siege--including nasty ones for you like diseases. These events will not happen; however, if you do not appoint a leader. If you want to speed up the siege, you may do so by assaulting, however that is not recommended unless you have a *minimum* of 10 times the enemy garrison, otherwise you will take massive losses. 2. Army combat is largely based on numbers, and less about troop quality and terrain. AI decision-making is also based on numbers, yours and your allies versus theirs and their allies. Also, when looking at targets, do keep in mind that the troop count listed on the main character screen is misleading from time to time. Levy amounts are largely based on vassal opinion, where higher opinion means more troops. Now, when fighting a defensive war lieges will gain a temporary opinion bonus with all their vassals. This will naturally increase the levy they can now raise, as their vassals have temporary high opinion of their liege, and so will contribute more troops. This bonus also applies to you as well, if you ever get attacked. So, keep that in mind because this can really screw you over if you don't factor it into your decisions! I could go on for days on all the tricks to this game, but I'll let you figure some out in your shenanigans. Hope these help! :D Edit: Removed bit that changed with Conclave DLC.
@d_Elder6 жыл бұрын
But he's using the Conclave DLC which I think changes how that works (although not completely sure how). In my experience, high stats give the child a high chance of increasing that skill; with Conclave education traits are chosen, but what level depends on the child's learning and possibly the tutor's education trait
@ZanathKariashi6 жыл бұрын
He's using Conclave. The Guardian has little to do with the child's development except picking event responses and the child potentially changing culture/religion. The education is picked at age 12. the level is based on beneficial vs negative traits for the education + the "intelligence" level of the child. (no intelligence traits are assumed average, where as Dull/imbecile/etc are bad, Shrewd/Quick/Genius are great). A genius with 2 positive traits and no negatives has an extremely high chance of a level 4 education, a slightly less chance of a level 3 education and a very minor chance of a level 2. (where as in the base game version, even at level 4 educator you have a 10% chance of getting a completely random education with a completely random level).

You can speed up the sieging by pressing the sword with the green arrow on the siege panel. It allows you to storm the castle. But be careful as you can lose troops by doing that. It's a risk, but is perfect for when you're resieging places, like the castle with 16 defenders.

49:30 If that happens, the Kingdom of England still exists, it's just under the control of the same guy that controls the Kingdom of Norway. It's the same reason that, for example, Queen Elizabeth II is the queen of the kingdoms of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In hindsight i actually likled this series more. Because of the smallerscale he had it much more personal. HE only started that later in the new series. Also being less good at the game made it somehow more charming and entertaining. Still love them both. CK someohow makes much better series than Stellaris. It's more personal and less busy.

Hey Jon do you know why East anglia has the ”tre kronor” (three crowns) emblem which is a old national symbol in Sweden?

Very likely a direct connection from the days of the Danelaw, I'd estimate.

According to my googling-capabilities, it is the emblem of the Wuffingas dynasty, which ruled East Anglia. The Wuffingas seem to origiante from Sweden, so there's that.

-When fighting, I think the green bar is morale of the army, not number of troops able to fight, but I might be wrong. -You can open the province info window and it tells you where the rivers between two provinces are. Just a suggestion, roleplaying the ruler would be great. NGParadox does it in his playthroughs and it is great fun when he makes a decision that hurts him, but it's what the rules would have done based on his traits.

It's a shame though, that money is a real balance breaker for small starts. They really fucked up by not scaling it with the size of your realm. Maybe 50 for a count, 100 for a duke, 300 for a king and 1000 for an emperor.
