Moerighan CK2 is the best, usually always play in the same region with some frequent characters (Norse, love starting as a lowly count; usually Burgundaholmr (Bornholm) ) and it's interesting how the game plays out so drastically every time.

To give this series some context in history: The Ummyads were a Caliphate that took over after the Rashid caliphate after Ali founder's of Shia Islam was assassinated. Were responsible for founding and moving the capital to Demascus replacing the importance of the Christian city of Antioch. The Ummayads expanded further into Anatolia, India, and Spain. The Ummayads were very Arab-centric and disallowed foreigners from taking important offices and most notably discrimated against Persians who the Abbasids used to take control from the Ummyads. The Ummayads only remained in Spain were they became one of the most tolerant nations of the time, allowing Jews to become prominent figures in government, and their tolerance of other religions made them wealthy allowing them to create the city of Cordoba or "The Jewel of Spain." The Ummayads were a large reason why Jews had quite a large presence in Spain before the Spanish expelled them. Fun Fact: Bards and Trubidors originated from Ummayad Spain. The time period occurs during Charlemagne's rise to power. His father King Pepin the Short had converted to Christianity and his kingdom along with him. He inherited his little brother's throne of middle francia, inherited by the incredibly dumb succession law in Salic law (a.k.a. all sons get land), after (probably) his mother assignated him in favour of her older son. Charlemagne then pressed his wife's claim on the kingdom of Lothoringa taking most of Italy. He then went on to conquer Saxony and Baveria. The pope then in an attempt to gain influence crowned Charlemagne Holy Roman Emperor. But then Salic law reared its ugly head and split the kingdom once again and the HRE would never return until Otto of Saxony recreated it, but that's a story for another day. Asturias is mostly unimportant, the most relevant thing it did was Salic law itself into: The kingdoms of Galicia, Leon, Castile, and Aragon which would continue the reconquista (reconquest in Spanish) against the successor Emirates of the Ummayad califate. Most famous of which was Granada (say it with me Grand-Na- Da not Grenade-a, you filthy illiterate peasants) Anyway that raps it up I might do another next episode if I feel like it so stay tuned!

First time I played CK2, I was the Duke of some small land on the Sicilian island. Only memorable thing I did was murder my wife after finding out she was the head of the plot to kill me. This game... It gives me odd stories to tell.

What would you do if in the first year Umayyad goes hog and tries to get West Francia? Like I just saw 9000 troops march through my lands by the way, EU4!, but also umm, they are going to die right? Should I just go as soon as I can create a duchy or whatever? Nevermind, I went for it, I had to levy some mercs which took me into the negative during a huge battle, so I got a smugglers ring in Leon, but I also got to 100% and took Castile.

When I played this country I had a daughter before I croaked and while she was Princess I managed to matrilineal married her to the heir of France, so, ya, once she died, I also managed to get to a good inheritance law where my eldest child (son first), takes the throne of all the kingdoms I created, and soon after I created the Empire of Hispania and that rules all of France, Germany, and Spain, soon to take over Italy via marriage to a wife with a strong claim hehe.

It is actually relatively easy for Francia to unite since when there is a scripted event where if Karl or Karloman die, the other will inherit their kingdom. It does easily fall apart from there though. Your plan to get children worked out but I think another strategy would work better in the future. You could have gone for an (unfaithful) lustful, young wife and rely on a healthy dose of AI seducing to get children or picked the seducing focus yourself and tried gotten a few bastards you could legitimize. I think the family focus might have been a bad choice here since you're basically negating the fertility debuf from her lesbianism. Cheating also seems to be more effective since it happens more often (married couples work with a monthly dice roll), there is always a chance of pregnancy with an event and you get to repeat it on a target every few days for maximum efficiency*. In my first Rome campaign, I ruled the Holy Roman Empire and I had just taken the Byzantine Empire when the plague hit killing all the males in my dynasty. Turns out I forgot to switch the HRE to agnatic-cognatic and I lost half of my empire. It was not fun taking it all back but I got to play as a plague surviving, possessed, lesbian warrior empress with the nickname "the cleansing fire" so that was cool. "Oh fuck you. You want independence? Yeah, is not happening." - Truly a campaign set in Spain. For some reason, this game never checks whether your spouse is homosexual in order to make her fall in love with you. Instead, the game just randomly makes her break up with you for seemingly no reason. Paradox logic, I guess. * It has not yet been proven whether or not I have always been a bad person or whether CK II brings the worst out of me. To me, at least, it seems to be a little of column A and a little of column B.
