Keep em coming mate. Love the new content. I was looking for a good vid on clearances for 5e and this applies to a lot more with bucket and shim set ups. Love the bit of music😍

I was worried I wouldn't find your video again but I found it I liked how you ordered those shims from the online people thank you

Im just now seeing your video and am reworking/refurbishing my 5sfe Toyota head because it was shot im not doing what your doing and your engine from what i see and am watching looks like it has to be quick. 😊 Im just doing what i need to bring my engine back to stock when it was new and i wanted a video to just see the valve lash adjustment and yours popped up and you did a good job of showing and explaining the process. But man oh man trying to find shims today in 2024 in usa sucks so many people just want to scam and sock it to you 😮. And too i think Toyota is proprietary like mercedes they just dont want you to go aftermarket for parts on some things.😅 Anyways have a great day Maybe ill catch another video of yours showing that car in action Art😊

Thanks for the detail! I've recently picked up an LS400 (Celsior) that apparently has the same style shim over bucket lifters & its got some noticeable valve noise! Not looking forward to doing this on two heads on an angle 😕

Nice, now I just need to take the time and see which shims on my head were rearranged by the machine shop.

What website did you buy these shims from? I have a Nissan that has a bucket setup and you can't get shims anymore. I used a 25c coin under the intake buckets and a 5c coin under the exhaust. works mint but idk how long it will last lmao

Hi Matt are the cylinder heads the same 5efe and 4efte head as I’m trying to sort valve springs through Allen at performance valve springs as I plan to turbo and cams my 5efe in my glanza
@MattBerrymotorsport3 жыл бұрын
Yeah they are the same for valve springs. Second gen 5efe with coil packs im not sure, ive never used them.
@DaDaDo6612 жыл бұрын
So it's safe to say that adjusting shims always involves taking the cams out?
@MattBerrymotorsport2 жыл бұрын
No, the Toyota dealership has a special tool that allowes you to change the shims one at a time without removing the cams. They wouldn't give it to me or sell me one 😂
@tabryis2 жыл бұрын
You buy one on Amazon! Mine comes in today

How would you go about setting the valve clearance if you're only given the "hot" specs. Speedvision cams only give you .010 INT and .012 EXH hot specs and not cold specs.
@MattBerrymotorsport2 жыл бұрын
Id just use those specs anyway. In one of my old engines i had to start it to move it and one of the clearances was .026 and it was fine lol
@HamzaIbrahim2 жыл бұрын
@@MattBerrymotorsport it wouldn't cause the valvetrain to be noisy or be losing out on power?
@MattBerrymotorsport2 жыл бұрын
@@HamzaIbrahim as i said i only used it to drive in and out of the workshop. Just do the hot specs then please yourself
@HamzaIbrahim2 жыл бұрын
@@MattBerrymotorsport alright so measured them hot vs cold and they were mostly .002 looser when hot than when cold. Just thought I'd share.

Hey Matt, would you by any chance know what the clearance should be for a stock head?
@madmovements6193 жыл бұрын
@Will Clausen thank you! That’s just the thing, the “golden” clearance is what I’d like to know
@MattBerrymotorsport3 жыл бұрын
i use the same 10 and 12 for the stock clearances too

When you do a new engine build , do you skim the block and the head or just the block ?
@MattBerrymotorsport3 жыл бұрын
If using a MLS head gasket I always get the head AND block skimmed, just enough so that the gasket sealing surface is flat.
@pettingerwilliam13 жыл бұрын
Brilliant , love the build and how clean engine bay is !!!! 🇬🇧

If you don't want to pull the bottom end apart ive also had this done while the entire bottom end is still assembled lol. Gave it a good wash, degrease, re assembled the top end and away it went
@MattBerrymotorsport3 жыл бұрын
Can put some masking tape down the open holes to stop stuff going into the bottom end...
