Cruwear micarta Spyderco PM2 skinny mod how to. I also did a 5 test hardness average on mine while I had it apart. This came out great and opens the door for all the mods I talked about previously. I'm excited to get to using this one now. If you are interested in having a skinny mod PM2 done Contact me at the email below or on Instagram.

Thank you. It isn't really difficult to do. With the amount of material that's removed it will eat up a 1 x 30 Blaze belt and a few 1 inch strios of sand paper. Otherwise it's just time and if you do it all at once it's about an hour of work to complete.

Im happy spyderco is running their cruwear/z-wear at a higher hardness. My z-wear shaman has quickly become one of my favorite because it holds an edge for a long time and strops so easily. EDIT: also its a micarta shaman... it feels great in the hand😁

I'm going to test my KC Para 3 and DLT PM2 Cruwear to get a couple more points to compare. The Z Wear Shaman I tested a while back did well in cutting and the other DLT PM2 I did was above the previous 62 hrc Cruwear in cutting as well. May just be a lucky draw but I will keep doing hardness testing as I get any on loan as well to get a bigger picture of the overall range.

I commented after your last vid that it would be harder to skinny this one than a regular PM2, but you did a great job! Stil hesitating if I wil get me one, the cut out on the liner seems to make the micarta flimsy.

Thank you and while it has some flex I don't think a grip on it will cause the micarta to break. Steel 2 Stone posted a picture on Instagram of a back spacer he made to help fill that gap. It's a great idea we talked about and he did a great job making it happen. If you aren't on Instagram email at the address in the video description and I'll sens ypu a picture of it. The spacer takes away any fear of that area being weak and looks great too.

Well thats a blessing to see those hardness numbers. Hopefully other folks get lucky as well. The skinny mod makes me think over why i have never used a pm2 tip down before. I always guessed it created a worse hot spot, but the skinny mod makes me think i should try it out. The pinky area is not limited to the pocket clip placement with the skinny mod. Im probably thinking far too ahead but snapping off the blade tip on purpose might be an idea to explore as well.

Hi Outpost 76! I was wondering if you would recommend the spyderco para Cruwear in micarta over the dlt trading para 2 exclusive blk dlc blade with purple g10. Is their one would you recommend over the other? Thx!
@Outpost_76
@Outpost_76 2 жыл бұрын
The dlc Cruwear DLT I have is 61.5 rc, the micarta Cruwear and satin Cruwear DLT are both 64 rc. While there is nothing wrong with the dlc they will both perform differently. One will be more wear resistant while the softer one will be much tougher. As far as edge stability between them I'm working on doing a side by side to see the difference. Depending on what you're going to do with it either will work fine

Appreciate you taking us through the process. My hands tend to like a larger knife but the PM2 ergos don’t do me any favors so I’m very tempted to try this out. Super excited to see them pushing my Cruwear like that again. My knifecenter DLC para 3 doesn’t feel any harder than my knifecenter manix 2 as far as I can tell. Sharpens up great still!
@Outpost_76
@Outpost_76 2 жыл бұрын
I also like a larger knife but this falls in to the Para 3 skinny. I ended up liking it with a thinned out handle and that improved the ergos in use . I am going to test my dlc Cruwear and find out what it is. My KC smooth Cruwear Manix is 62, the KC smooth cf Cruwear Manix is 61 and my old gray Cruwear Manix is mid 63. While still only a few examples, with the DLT PM2 Cruwear and the KC Para 3 that will give a better idea if this is just a 1 batch thing or did they really start running Cruwear harder again.

@@Outpost_76 My fingers are crossed that they're moving back to the harder heat treat! Of course there is more to steel than just hardness but the comparison of how they did Hap40 vs Rex45 sticks out so much in my mind. When you get a knife, that is harder than 60, in reality you are not lucky your're just a marketing brainwashed victim, they just robed you, selling you something you don't really need and it's the opposite, of a user friendly tool. That's how I call us all.even though my hardest blade, is 59 to 60hrc. Oh, I'm sure you're going to say, that I'm poor and I'm only able to buy cheap knives, so that's why I say all that, right? Well, the knife I own, that has a 59 to 60 hrc blade, costs 500 $ and as you've might made a better guess now, that's not the only knife I own. So, I wish all knives, came with better blades and not super brittle glass like ones. I'm a user and that's what that tool used to be. Now it's a collectors piece, and they have to dinf out tricks, to get more money out of our wallets...
@Outpost_76
@Outpost_76 Жыл бұрын
It's a popular misconception that harder blades are brittle. It has nothing to do with what you bought for a certain price. Many examples of steels that just don't perform if not run to a proper hardness. I'll use the new hot steel Magnacut, below 62 rc it's a poor performer and it's been shown over and over. I'm not sure what made you pick 60 rc as an arbitrary number for all steel hardness but it is wrong.

Maybe I’m just different than a lot of people. The handle scales are fine as they are to me. It seems just like the para 3 and the military/military2. Even the manix 2…. Perhaps it’s because I always keep my hand forward with my index finger in the choil? Nice video though for those that want to do this mod.
@cordobadebear
@cordobadebear 2 жыл бұрын
I’m sure it was cheaper and simpler for them to make the crucarta model the way it is, instead of the lock tab shape as seen on the prototype in knifecenter stream, but how much cheaper? …enough to release with a weird, uncomfortable and weak area of the lock side scale… obviously, they’re ok with that, since they released the shaman model with the blade notch coming across the lock tab area… fans of shaman don’t seem to care about this, or they grind it off… but to me it’s ridiculous, considering the price of the knife…and the fact that it is the same designer and company that make the manix2, a nearly flawless design and best one of spyderco offerings…
@Outpost_76
@Outpost_76 2 жыл бұрын
I would say it probably was the least expensive option they had and I was concerned about it at first but now after pushing on that area it seems durable enough. I just worry that if it were dropped wrong that spot could potentially chip or damage easy and cause a problem area in use.

Just picked up DLT exclusive pm2 in s90v because I couldn't wait for the micarta pm 2 in cruwear to be available. Given it's hardness will this cruwear out preform spyderco previous s90v?
@Outpost_76
@Outpost_76 2 жыл бұрын
In wear resistance no the S90V is going to cut more overall. When talking toughness, edge stability and impact resistance Cruwear even at this hardness will be better than S90V in those categories. They are 2 different steels meant for different purposes so outside of the points above your use will determine which is better.
