It's pretty amazing to see just how far we've come with all of this, i don't do any streaming or podcasts (also prefer local files, FLAC if possible) but as a musician who began releasing in mp3 format when it all began in the mid 90s the advancement is not lost on me. 26 years ago i gave business cards to people with my website URL and some ended up not even having soundcards yet and couldn't listen. Today i learned how to build an entire online radio station and people all over the world have receivers in their pockets capable of hearing it. Welcome to the future lol ;)

I too am a musician and what I like about liquidsoap is that you can add support for different audio file types and I use FLAC as well when I can.

@@CyberGizmo Very nice. Anything that lacked FLAC support in 2022 for me would be out. I record hardware instruments (synths/drum machines) and make FLAC downloads available at 48kHz because it's a recording, not software / 44.1 sample based electronic music. I try to also buy music in FLAC format only (or buy CD's / Vinyl & convert to FLAC). Storage is cheap enough and a 1TB MicroSD in an Android phone works for portable playback.

This was a great video. I did not know any of this existed. I guess it was 3 years ago I was looking at internet radios last. None of this showed up. I see liquidsoap is in Synaptic Package Manager. Amazing.

Icecast was built from the original Shoutcast. And boy, do I miss those Shoutcast days...

Played with many things over the years. Still like to set things up - and DJ this vid was really great :) But, I think when it comes to streaming now, I guess its a question I ask myself. With so many hosts - like twitch, or youtube, or similar - when you can directly stream, and store, and have a channel/home, and where they really take care of the CDN level network load for large numbers of watchers/listeners ---- why do it the harder way. 'Because we can?' :) And well, insert everyone's own answer!! Great stuff as always DJ!

Thanks Adm, I am doing this because I want to extend the system I have, yes KZbin and Twitch are great for video live streams, but how exactly do they do audio only live streams?
@AdmV0rl0n2 жыл бұрын
@@CyberGizmo Well, sending video is way harder than doing audio. But i think what you are getting at is the angle of a pod-cast management of the 'send'. So, not so much the live stream, but the setting of what I will loosely say a 'radio station-alike' idea. Capping audio, and using a program that can have a playlist - its all doable - but I guess the magic is in management. :)

So, am I to understand that this stream will be independent of KZbin?
@CyberGizmo2 жыл бұрын
Well if I get it to work, yes, it will be a self-hosted, right now I am "experimenting" with it.

@@CyberGizmo LMAO. So you’re having fun with your new toys. I love to tinker with software. You’ll get it to work. In the meantime, have fun!

Joe Collins run a radio show. Maybe get some feedback from him.

Thanks OS CS, I already know what Joe uses, its commercial software supplied by the radio station. I am not planning to broadcast commercially, and have been using liquidsoap since 2006, it works very well.
