*@**25:33* I was able to buy the OEM strap insulators for my tank straps- in case of other cars, might not have them. In those cases, IMO it's important to, keep out corrosion from in between those tiny crevices. In your case- a bicycle inner tube, cut to length, slide strap inside. Adhesive like RTV silicone the ends closed. I've even seen carefully wrapped quality electrical tape around straps. That metal-to-metal abrasion really eats steel. At least your spray is something. A "garage" will never take extra steps for you; they'll zip on your new, bare steel tank and done. I give mad respect for your attention to detail.

Hey Mechanic, Question for you: Did you install the new fuel pump because it had failed, or about to fail? My 91 CRX has a dead fuel pump. It apparently died like a light bulb went out, so when I turn the ignition key to the ON position, there is no sound or signal coming from the fuel pump, even though I have verified that proper battery voltage is supplied to it. What are your thoughts on a dead fuel pump like the one I have? Is it common? I'm wondering if other CRX owners have had the same [dead] fuel pump issues. Thanks.
@themechanic61178 ай бұрын
I just changed it as an upgrade to supply more fuel to the new engine. If you have power n ground going to the pump then yeah it's a bad pump. They usually just randomly fail. Especially if it's the original pump that came with your car
@gavinenema8 ай бұрын
@@themechanic6117 Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure it's the original fuel pump (I'm the third owner). It's a 34-year old car, so not really surprised that the pump failed. I haven't driven the car regularly for the past 10-12 years, so that may have been a big factor for the pump failure (i.e. bad, stale gas with ethanol sitting in the tank for years). It seems with cars, under-usage can be just as bad as over-usage. Live and learn.

I installed this same pump in my CRX, and it works great, but I have a gas smell sometimes when I'm driving. Especially when I go around a right hand turn a little fast. Can't see any leaks anywhere around the fuel lines, but I haven't dropped the fuel tank to check around the fuel outlet area. Do you think it's most likely the gasket around under the fuel out let flange (where the 6 nuts go)? Or could it be caused by something else. I reused the gasket, and probably should have bought a new one.
@themechanic61173 жыл бұрын
Usually that upper gasket only leaks or shows the leak whenever you completely fill the tank . If you can smell fuel is must be leaking from somewhere. On a old car I would definitely not reuse the gasket that came off. So far on my car no leaks and no smell of gasoline
