I think it goes without saying that not burying bodies in the ground there's going to be an odour problem.

The smell must be from a new burial. Maybe I'm wrong, but I cant imagine a body interred 10 or 12 years ago would have that issue after all this time.

If there's no visible leaking chances are its a ventilation or drain issue. Also if the panel behind the marble face cover wasn't sealed completely, some gasses might be escaping

Lena and Howard Koff were mother and son. A "maniac" set fire to their home in Redwood City, and three people died. Other family members were injured. A family dog alerted the family, thereby preventing more deaths.

Smelly Crypt, Smelly Crypt what is that seeping through? Smelly Crypt, Smelly Crypt down in the vault... They won't wash your marble walls As the wretched stench reeks down the hallowed halls And while there's a bouquet of roses We are still pinching tight our noses I promise you that when we've gone All the earth shall stink ohhhh, Smelly Crypt, Smelly Crypt what is that creeping through? Smelly Crypt, Smelly Crypt deep from the vault! 🤭

Cremations smell like burning fried chicken if you happen to be where yoou can smell it. Crematoriums have regulations in populated areas and have to do things to divert smells of burning. They do not smell like rotted raw meat forgotten in the back of the fridge.

Timur the conqueror of Central Asia died in the 1400's...in the 1940's Soviet scientists opened his sarcophagus and there was a pungent sweet aroma...frankincense..rose oil and camphor had been used to preserve Timur...threads of a Chinese silk robe and some red hair and beard remained...the fearful Uzbek workmen were terrified...they believed the smell meant that Timur's spirit was released from his sarcophagus..Timur's sarcophagus supposedly read.."when I rise from the grave..the earth shall tremble"....and the inside bore the inscription "he who opens my tomb shall bring a conqueror far worse than I"....three days after the tomb was unsealed and Timur's skeleton removed...the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union...

They’re supposed to tip the inside of the crypts backwards. But if you noticed there was some discoloring right there on the sidewalk in the mausoleum towards the end, you said the smell was getting stronger. So I kind of wonder if the row above the bottom row there was an issue. They need a correct casket that burps to allow air and other things to get out, they need a drain in the back so that anything can go down into the drain, they need it to be tipped back so anything can roll backwards, and they need to have a pipe out the top of it so that the air can whisk away anything. But those older mausoleum were not built correctly and sometimes you do get a bad smell.

Taken from a Article about 8:57 a grave you visited: “ BURNT DOWN Three People Incinerated. NEW YORK, August 14. At Redtvqod City, California, to-dsy, Mrs. Lena Koff, Howard Koff, aged seven years, and Miss Hcynan, a school teacher, were burned to death when fire destroyed, the summer home of Mr. Sol Koff, a San Francisco millionaire real estate agent.” I kept wondering why the death day was the same and I looked it up.

I worked in a cemetery 20 years ago and they buried someone in a underground crypt. I thought 2 people were buried in the sarcophagus. Yes they had 2 caskets in it. But they moved the entire sarcophagus to access the underground crypt. The stairs that led down was 12 large block steps. With 3 rooms lined with caskets. The burial they did was the last casket to fit and 3 urns they had 8 gas powered sconces that was installed in the 70s. The caskets dated back to the 1880s. Toe pinchers to modern caskets. No smell at all other than the musty oder. It was pretty wild seeing it. The family waited 30 years to bury the urns when the great grandson was laid to rest. They had 2 niches for babies that fit 2 caskets each. I remember bringing down 3 wooden plant stands for the urns. But they completely willed it up and sealed it. We didn't get photos but a family member documented the whole thing video but remember flashing from a camera. So hopefully it's out on the net or due to. lol 😅 The family requested to have all the flowers but 2 sprays put in. If I had the millions to build one I would in a heartbeat. They had 6 or statues throughout the rooms. But they moved the sarcophagus back in place after putting the sealer block back in place with liquid rubber a d cement. Then the carefully sealed the sarcophagus back with cement. No getting in or out. 3 feet of solid granite or marble for the seal and 2 feet of solid marble for the sarcophagus base. They had to use 3 backhoes just to move that stuff. They cut the pipe out to the lights a week later as of the last and final burials were done the week prior. ❤

I would guess that the smelly crypt was one of the ones without a bronze marker. Probably a new resident whose pickling job fell short. Some people are nuts. Like my father. He wanted an open casket funeral, but did not want embalming. Then my mother delayed the funeral so all the out of town relatives could attend. By the time the funeral occurred, he had freezer burn.

When buried in a vault, are you interned head or feet first? Alot of Funeral homes are enclosing the caskets in bags which I've seen on You Tube due to gases escaping. Can anyone tell me the decomposition of an interned body in a vault? Thanks
@timw8228
@timw8228 5 ай бұрын
I believe the head goes in first but that may not be the case for every mausoleum. Decomposition from what I have read occurs faster in a mausoeum than in a ground burial. A mausoleum is subject to temperatures higher than in the ground and air is available. In ground in a sealed grave vault the temp is lower and steady and no fresh air. A body would be more subject to ground water if not in a sealed grave vault which would aid in decomposition. The best vaults from Wilbert one maker are guaranteed for 75 and 100 years to stay structually intact . I don't know of anyone checking to get a refund. If a grave digger with a backhoe hits a vault digging for a new interment could crack the vault also. Usually a mausoleum interment is cheaper. But like real estate location location location could be expensive. Rarely if ever would a mausoleum interment allow no embalming. My aunt did not want to be embalmed and about a week ago she was buried.
@BaraAleia
@BaraAleia 5 ай бұрын
There should be circulation of fresh air through vents in mausoleums, and 'burping' instead of sealed caskets. With air flow a body desiccates (dries out/mummifies); without air you get 'corpse soup' that erodes the casket (>fluid leakage) and gases cannot go anywhere (>gas buildup can crack a casket, and sometimes even cause an 'explosion').

@timw8228 Question lol how do you know if the casket or burial vault is not leaking if its in the ground covered in dirt. Lol, I've worked for a burial vault company, so it doesn't matter what you have . Is the undertaker going to check on deceased people that have been in the ground for a significant amount of time ? To check for leaks. Oh hey Fred yeah Joe I think Sally is leaking after 50yrs in the ground lol we better ask her hahaha

My dad passed away and wasn’t found for a few days. He was only 63 so it was unexpected and I didn’t speak to him every day regularly. We had to have a closed casket for obvious reasons and the funeral home smelled very bad. I’ll never forget it. Not a good memory for me. I imagine you were smelling remains from an improperly sealed tomb.

I am so sorry for you and for the family of the poor soul that is decomposing badly. It is likely one without a nameplate yet the smell is actually from a more recent death. I do have one question for anyone that may know out there...I notice that in this Jewish Cemetery, there is not one that has any flowers or floral arrangements on it???? Is it against the Jewish religion?? Thanks for the video, and may they all RIP
@ms.cynthia5055
@ms.cynthia5055 5 ай бұрын
It's possible that they don't have flowers because they are older burials.
@bandesj
@bandesj Ай бұрын
Yes, it's against the Jewish religion. You will never find flowers at a Jewish cemetery and the reasons are twofold. First, the deceased can't appreciate the beauty of a flower. Second, flowers themselves will eventually die. Instead, small stones are placed on the headstone or footstone to indicate you visited. Unlike a flower, stones are enduring and don't die.
