Disagree on the FRT and variant status, just see the case with the ATRS Modern Sporter. It's basically the same concept as the Crypto (completely different upper and lower but will take all AR15 parts) but is now classified as prohibited as a variant and not available for sale or use as a NR. It doesn't matter what the company says if it is or isn't a variant, it comes down to however the RCMP arbitrarily classifies it and enforces that prohibited status. Also disagree on the 6061 vs 7075 coming from a materials engineering background, 7075 is significantly harder and tougher and the way the AR15 aluminum upper and steel bolt carrier group is designed to interact together, the hardness of the material matters as the BCG is using the upper as a guide. A softer 6061 upper will wear out much faster than a harder 7075 upper. Same thing applies to the steel pins in the lower as 6061 will egg out the pin holes much sooner than 7075 though less vital than the upper.
@nallyg43144 ай бұрын
The upper should be 7075, lower either or
@Xpired_PCP2 ай бұрын
Yeah but the thing about ATRS and rifles made by companies like BCL 102, MK7 or Coyote, the original FRT stated it was non-restricted before the OIC which made very specific mention in their entry that they were not AR-15 or AR-10 variants. The OIC banned ATRS and BCL rifles by *name*, and as a result, the RCMP now had to make up excuses as to why it is now banned despite the previous entry saying that it was perfectly legal, so on the FRT entry, they simply put "____ it's a variant of ____". It's all the reason why the Raven 556 was approve despite being an exact carbon copy concept as the ATRS itself. The Raven is a rifle made post OIC and thus is not named specifically as a banned rifle, and therefore default firearm classification rules apply.

Its sad that it has come to this, but I appreciate this company finding ways for us to continue to enjoy our hobby as much as the laws allow. My question for Crusader Arms is since the Crypto is essentially an AR-15 built out of spec to make it legal, is there any hope in us getting other rifles that follow a similar philosophy? I think it would be awesome if someone were to make AK variants and other rifles banned by name (out of spec to be legal) in restricted and non-restricted configurations. Obviously we already have Type-81s for 7.62x39, but something like an AK-101/102/108 in 5.56 would be wicked. I think a repo of SVDs in 308 or even 54r would be extremely popular.
@CodeOfArms4 ай бұрын
@@Aidan303 I think for the rifles you are referring to for a reproduction compliant version is not likely. Those rifles use mostly stamped receiver sets and parts. That is a much different production process than machined aluminum. Most small Canadian Manufacturers are not setup to be able to reproduce these type of rifles. Extremely cost prohibitive for entry to market. Long term high volume production would make it more cost effective, but the Canadian market is too small in my opinion for that.

the atrs modern sporter had a non restricted FRT that the rcmp illegally changed to prohibited and forced them to shut down production. The FRT technically isn't law but the rcmp doesn't give a shit about that, I'm fucking sick of people saying it isn't required or it doesn't mean anything for a domestically produced/sold firearm. Eventually the RCMP will get their hands on one and give it a FRT. I don't know what they'll assign it but my hopes aren't up, the crypto is at least as similar if not more to an ar15 as the atrs was. I Really hope the Crypto works out, that the rcmp leave it alone, that crusader actually managed to put out a quality product but I don't trust steve or crusader arms. I don't think he cares that much if he sells us a $2000 rifle that'll be a paper weight in 2 years, He'll just pivot to something else. I hope the crypto proves me wrong, i'd LOVE to build one but i don't trust it/him.

@@gonzala I appreciate the comment, but struggle to understand the perspective on the FRT? You say you are “fucking sick of people saying it isn’t required” but in the same breath are saying the ATRS had an FRT and was still prohibited. So I guess what I’m trying to understand is, why do you think the FRT matters if previous firearms with FRT numbers held ZERO bearing on it still becoming prohibited? ANY and all rifles with an FRT or not can become prohibited at ANY time without explanation. Like we all just witnessed during the prohibition of over 1500 models in the past couple of years. I’m sincerely trying to understand your perspective and determine if I am missing something. Also as it relates to Steve, adapting and just making something. New should anything happen…I believe that’s exactly what he said he would continue to do…it’s what we all have been forced to do! As for whether he cares if it gets prohibited I’m pretty sure he cares…he took on a significant investment that will not be recouped otherwise.
@gonzala4 ай бұрын
@@CodeOfArms I guess I failed to mention that with the atrs lawsuit the rcmp will be hesitant to repeat such an action but without first acquiring an nr frt I'm pretty confident it'll be assigned prohibited because there's no reason not to. With the lawsuit the rcmp won't mess with an existing frt for the time being, it's not 100% but it's something. Lockhart got all their frt's and fixed their issues in the first generation got 10-20k rounds throubh rentals at my local range Sterlings got theirs (180b granted) 40k rounds before major issues at the same range (they just replaced their worn out r18's with ravens this year) Steve gonna step up to roll with the big boys? I wasn’t so lucky with the one I had, loose hand guard and broken Carrier in the first 300 rounds. Didn’t release the video because my goal wasn’t to hurt the company as I think they were trying to work through their problems responsibly. As for Crusader starting to play with the “Big Boys” I’m not sure who you are referring to?!?! Do you Sterling? Not a slight to Sterling at all, I really like JR and his contributions to our community and industry, I just don’t know anyone who owns and in many cases even seen an R18, gen1 2 or 3! I don’t know dealers that carry them either. As for Lockhart, I would love another crack at the Raven. Some of our followers/viewers have mentioned they made some improvements which I am happy to hear as I was excited when I first caught wind of the project. With that also said, very few dealers carry them as well, and nearly no one can get their hands on them for 6-8 months I’m being told!
