The fact that people even need to diversify their portfolio exemplifies the fundamental problem with fiat. I'm pretty deeply involved in the crypto space and, believe me, I find most of the people in the community to be incredibly cringe-worthy, but there's a lot of merit to the idea of what you call "fetishising crypto."

If any cryptocurrency ever became usable money in the United States, the dollar would become worthless in a few years. That's because the total value of that cryptocurrency would be added to the total amount of dollars. The more people buying it (from around the world), the higher the price would be. The value of the dollar would decrease. Because of that the value of the crypto would increase relative to the dollar. That means the dollar would decrease in value again. The crypto rises and the dollar falls endlessly. I don't see that ever happening though. Right now more value in crypto is like more value in stocks. You can't buy things directly with it.
