@urphakeandgey63082 жыл бұрын
Fundamentally, there is no difference between fiat and crypto other than state-endorsement and control. Wish more "crypto bros" understood this instead of fetishising crypto. The real use for crypto is diversifying your assets, like with gold. Replacing fiat in any capacity, other than an Orwellian state mandated alt-coin, is arguably a pipe dream.

@@urphakeandgey6308 Well, fiat is inflationary by design. Most crypto assets are either deflationary or have a supply cap, the idea being that your wealth doesn't decrease in value over time. The fact that people even need to diversify their portfolio exemplifies the fundamental problem with fiat. I'm pretty deeply involved in the crypto space and, believe me, I find most of the people in the community to be incredibly cringe-worthy, but there's a lot of merit to the idea of what you call "fetishising crypto."

Day 37: It’s been a few months now since we landed on Cryptoland and things are starting to descend into an anarchy. I think Simon has finally lost it, he keeps trying to sell his new NFT to the other Cryptolanders but they keep brushing him off. He’s told me he’s gonna cut their throats in their sleep to show them whose NFT “will really go to the moon”. While I’m writing this, I can hear him in the other room sharpening his Bored Apes knife he bought for $60 million on the blockchain. I think I’m gonna sleep in the Shitcoin toilets tonight…
@f-22raptorlandingzone302 жыл бұрын
Day 55: it's gone to shit. It's all gone to shit. We've been out of power for over half a week. The fighting across the island has turned into full blown tribal warfare. The blockchain hills are a blood soaked warzone of starved desperation and despair between what's left of the elites and radicals dead set on taking everything for themselves. Pirates on the far side have been skirmishing with anyone that dares step too close, apparently waiting for their moment to salvage whatever they can. I can't even definitely say wether or not those "people of the great coin" freaks that worship that bastard mascot as their god have been multiplying, and all I know is they're still dragging away anyone they find as "tribute". I write this among the last group of 'sane' people bunched around the ruins of the helipad. We're sleeping in our clothes out in the open and rationing whatever we can get of the fish killed by the pollution still floating on top the water. We're boiling and cooking everything in fires made of anything from junk to the clothes of our people that have died in their sleep. We're out of bullets, flares, batteries, basic supplies, our knives are dulled to shit and the awful food wouldn't even give enough strength to fight with our fists. At this point we know we're not going to make it, but we just can't bring ourselves to let it all end.
@FlyingPizza90052 жыл бұрын
Day 71: Everything has turned to anarchy once people stopped sending supplies to the island. There are pirates invading the east coast of the island and multiple different factions fighting for whatever little land there is over the west and south sides. People are murdering each other and worshiping the mascot of this darn island. We tried calling the government of Fiji, but they seem to have abandoned us. They weren’t fond of this whole thing itself. What was I thinking coming here. I really need to rethink my life choices, and despite once living in a small one room apartment losing it all to crypto, it is still much better than here. Hold up, I can see something in the distance. Are those tankers with soldiers and multiple and large machine guns heading straight towards us!? Continue this story if you want to!

Day 72: I was wrong! Everything’s wrong! As soon as the ship made landfall they opened fire on everyone. Friend, foe, man, woman, child, they all had a bullet to their name. The ship’s captain announced that it was because we were illegal squatters and that gambling was an executable offence. How was I supposed to know Fiji had laws!?! I was the only one who made it out alive, and now I’m writing this as I sit in the ship’s brig waiting for them to take me back to the mainland. Not that it really matters, I have nothing left. They at least had the kindness to let me keep this NFT of a blanket I’ve been using for warmth.

I gave up on NFTs the moment I knew of its existence. The art is either bad, stolen art or just some celebrity wanting to jump on the bandwagon. These same people also thought they owned the entire Dune series for simply buying an extremely rare physical pitch book. The stolen artwork I mentioned earlier really ticked me off cause as of now you can't really do anything about it; the only protection artists have is if the site they post it on has something akin to DeviantArt's art theft detection (which is just bare bones, and you need to have core to have it).

Indeed there should be a proper use for NFTs, like enabling the trading and inheritance of individual software licenses or digital copies... Like ownership of a game on Steam, and enable us to trade them as if they were physical copies like the good ol days.
@KaoruMzk2 жыл бұрын
You don’t need blockchain for that. You can literally do it with robust databases and account management systems. No need to destroy thousands of graphics cards and increase the electricity bill by 1500%

NFTs will find practical use eventually, but I'm sure it'll be very niche... Like a smart contract or something boring. Maybe art traders, again very niche, will slowly move to NFT trading too. Crypto followed the same path. It didn't replace fiat, but it's still thriving, is it not? NFTs are like a digital anti-counterfeiting measure. Anyone that thinks that's useless is an idiot. "bUt I cAn JuSt ScReEnShOt..." How good is a photocopied dollar bill? It's not the original and anyone can easily prove it. A time will come when that's useful digitally. Also, I'm tired of the "it's intangible bro" and "digital goods can't be scarce bro" argument. These same idiots will happily buy intangible knife skins on the Steam Market that are thousands of dollars only because of *_artificial scarcity._*

@@KaoruMzk It's just one idea for the use of this technology where it would make sense. Proof of ownership in a decentralized way out of control of Steam in the case of my example, to return ownership of games to people, and allow them to trade them.

@@ichummm2743 Just because a corporation/government offers an NFT or an alt-coin doesn't mean you have to buy into it. Tell me you don't know anything about crypto without saying it out loud... Governments mandating to use their coin is a different story. That'd be an attempt to make crypto more like fiat. (State-endorsed and controlled.)

It's practically a lawsuit waiting to happens because of how finally a legal action can be taken when the NFT pic is involving big people without their agreement, and they dare to take legal action about it compared to the small time artist that had their art stolen as NFT.
