This is my dream job. I may never make it there but for many years I was determined to be on this level. Serve my country, be serious, save lives and achieve excellence is my mentality. Aiming this high and never making it will still make me a great professional in other fields. My community will still benefit from my efforts. In case anyone out there is experiencing the same, don't give up and if you fail? Don't let it be the end all. There are other options for you. Be interpreters and translators. Every community needs them.

His Russian's shite, he got the stress wrong on literally one of the first words you learn - язык - I learned better Russian picking asparagus with bunch of Ukranians in the south of England lol

Yeah, his Russian is horrible. Like, you can tell from a mile away that he is an american trying to speak russian. And he is an instructor......

@@bensmith8815 whilst disappointing his stress is wrong we have to remember that his duties will not be verbal interpretation rather he will be listening, and translating written material. His students will be on board a RC-135 Rivet Joint electronic reconnaissance aircraft. He won't be in a Hotel, business meeting or Underground Train Station in Moscow. USAF linguists only have 18 months to achieve strong proficiency in their language. It's not a 3 year degree.

@@dougmmm you're quite right actually, and in hindsight my comment was shortsighted and disrespectful. You seem wise and perhaps you have worked as a linguist yourself? ...So I'd love to ask you a question and any insight u can provide would be very much appreciated: in the age of AI and breakthroughs in quantum, new and improved tech etc., what is the future of the military linguist role? Would it be wise to start a career as one in this day and age? Many thanks 😊

Intense language study, 8 hours a day + homework, 50 + new words a day with no looking back. The crypto stuff is classified but equally or more intense.

@selladore4911 - The best way to describe it is 2 solid years of intense pressure. Knowing that at anytime during those 2 years you could washout. On top of that, the later you washout means the more limited your options are going to be, with respect to picking another MOS. Like I said, the pressure is immense. But the job, if you make it, is like no other you will ever have.
