I personally had no problem with the second alien half of Crysis. I still have all three Crysis games installed and regularly still replay missions from them. Being from a country with a comparatively small player base, the few multiplayer Power Struggle games that I was able to play when it was still up were great fun and its absence from the sequels is a pity. Crysis is something I look back on fondly and wish I could show to more gamers today. Edit: The Crysis 2 theme still gives me goosebumps, in fact let me find it and listen to it right now.

My issue with second half is how rushed it feels. Core level while polarizing is one of my favorite ones due to how alien it feels and how game really turns turntables by instead of being the hunter to become hunted as intruder that needs to be dealt with. Unfortunately after that Crysis is becoming a mess that underutilize aliens by making 2 short levels and annoying VTOL section. Warhead despite being shorter and in some ways worse than original brilliantly addresses this issue by fixing level design with AI changes and adding Koreans into mix that makes me wish that if Crysis 1 had the same way of handling aliens as Warhead it would be much better received.

Crysis made me feel very frustrated about today's games. During its time, it was OK for Crysis to be sub-60 fps simply because it looks so god damn beautiful at max settings. Know the comment above is 2 years old but I think its still relevant today and deserves a reply. Kalsonic that is because even tho hardware is getting faster, programmers are becoming worse and this is effecting software quality, why are they becoming worse? First because of the first fact that PC's are now much faster, so programmers can write much worse and inefficient code and it will still run at a "acceptable" speed, second and very dangerous to the future of programming, because many new programmers don't know how to really code in low level languages, like c/c++, languages that require you to know more about the underworkings of the PC hardware, like memory layout and CPU special code like SIMD, instead this programmers have grown, to code in higher level languages like C# and now not even writing real code but just linking boxes around in visual coding tools, languages and systems that hide from you what the hardware is doing, of course to make your life easier but at the same time they make you write less efficient and slow code. This is the reason why AAA developers are going away from dx11 and OpenGL and transitioning to Dx12, Vulkan and Metal, even tho this new graphics API's are much much harder to work with they force you to learn low level knowledge and so make faster games using less hardware power.

With regards to the shudden plot shift, i've never totally understood why it baffles people, exactly. It's very clear that Crysis is basically taking it's cue from PREDATOR. An Elite spec ops team is sent into the jungle to deal with an opposing military force, kicks their butts, and is suddenly side-swipped by an Alien force that completely flips them end over end. Or for a video game parallel... CONTRA. In a lot of ways CRYSIS is the FPS sandbox version of Contra. Go to an island to fight some terrorists group, come up against aliens hidden within the island. Does it work? Well, I guess it doesn't for a lot of people... But I absolutely loved it. It does make you feel like a super badass when you go from contending with the Korean forces and then suddenly all bets are off when the aliens start coming in full force. Yes, the mystery is quickly tapped out, but the tension (I felt) ratchets up during the second half. I felt a sense of urgency as I watched more and more and more aliens pouring out of the mountain, until you can literally see tens of thousands of them flying through the air away from the island. I would *love* to see a game try and tackle an alien invasion in an urban setting like Crysis tackled one in the jungle setting. Really giving the player a sense of perspective from smaller scale at first, to absolutely apocalyptic later on. Watching the aliens attack the escort ships and sinking them like something out of 20,000 Leagues was such an "Oh, shit" moment.
@dead_kennedys78705 жыл бұрын
OpenMawProductions It baffles people because ITS FUCKING ALIENS. Contra was a game far passed, it’s not like it was weighing in people mind. Nor did Contra by any stretch establish the story telling conventions of military games. I’d hope it be obvious as to why.
@RetroMarkyRM5 жыл бұрын
I thought the same about the Predator reference but the problem is the way you play as your character for the first half suddenly shifts and most of your tactics just don't apply anymore. I guess it depends on the player but for me, I loved how I had to think my way around the first half (and try different tactics by repeating levels) but in the second half it became a generic shooter. I liked the interior of the ship but didn't like the maze like structure so it kinda went down hill there and then again outside.
@ChadKakashi4 жыл бұрын
If baffles people because it basically jerks you away from the mystery hunter plot to useless korean missions. When you get used to that and start getting good missions about koreans, you suddenly get a bad alien plot. Also gameplay kinda sucks after a while.

The cynical part of me says that the change into an action blockbuster was just Electronic Arts meddling. I feel like the decision was more making the game double as a tech demo. The early levels are pretty, big, and show off a lot of the flexibility the engine offers. Then you start to get more linear levels that push the graphics even further and have unique gimmicks. You got stuff like vehicle sections, a zero-g level, a vtol level. The later levels have that frost effect coating everything, lots of scripted events and all the pretty shaders the Ceph bring with them. Then you get to the final boss fight, and it takes place on an aircraft carrier in the middle of the night, so a relatively small area, but I remember that last level looking better than everything else by a fair margin.

Well pretty much Crytek thought they had a moneymaker on there hands like Call of Duty. The difference is you can't go from a crazy openworld game that pushes your computer to it's max (Warhead as well). To a pc/console port that limited the open areas due to the consoles limitations. Reason why first one sold so well in my opinion was also due to word of mouth (but can your computer run Crysis) Was actually a game that was made for high end pc's pretty amazing actually. EA had nothing to do with it really, Crytek simply thought they had a potentially moneymaker clone on there hand (due to Crysis 1/Warhead sales) they gambled on moving to console, but in doing so alienated the high end pc base. Those on PC, immediately noticed dumb down graphics/new "open world" Also one of the first times I can think of other than Half-life/Unreal tournament, where general population did everything in there power to make it even better. Better A.I, longer suit function, higher foliage quality ect.

Regarding the ending monologue, about games that push the limits, etc. Recently I started playing the new Red Dead Redemption, and perhaps it's just the added perspective of first-person requiring more detail in one of Rockstar's open worlds, but I was pretty impressed at first seeing both that tell-tale expansiveness we've come to expect of Rockstar and all of the intricate detail one would expect from an older Bethesda game. The way mechanics were blended together almost-seamlessly. It was the first time in the entirety of my ownership of an Xbone that I thought to myself, "So this is what this machine can do. This is the future of gaming." Then I had to restart a train-mission from a checkpoint and my horse was spawned on the tracks right in front of the locomotive, flattened and I remembered that I was playing a video game. lmao Still a very impressive attempt at pushing the envelope. And I love the irony of an Old Western game being a harbinger of the future.

Rockstar's game design is still very ass backward. If you haven't seen it. NakeyJackey's video on RDR2 is very interesting. Those guys need to decide if they want to do a movie game or an open revolutionary game. Because the only reason they are at the top is because no one else is even attempting of doing it right and proper. RDR2 wouldn't be that hard to beat simply because of it's crippling fault that comes from the contradictory game design. Ubisoft almost did it but... it's ubisoft. Making decisions that just makes you go : what the fuck? WHY the fuck?

This word still carries a weight, all these years later. It's a flawed gem that deserved better, but I'm going to say we could've ended with a much worse deal if Crytek didn't stick to their guns (graphics). It's also one of my favourite games of all time, just because I was fascinated with it when it was released. The first half of the game was grounded and these graphics were just unreal. It took a good few years for other games to even catch up it (Far Cry 2 in 2008 looked pretty sweet though (by using a little bit of CryEngine code in its Dunia engine actually)). But yeah, it's been 10 years and weirdly we are where we are and kind a not where we thought we might be when this game came out. The issue with enemies "adapting" to your play style by using goggles or armor piercing bullets doesn't really factor in that unlike MGSV, the game takes place over a period of 2-3 days. You'd also have to assume that the Koreans somehow have access to enough cloak vision goggles to detect a billion dollar highly confidential secret super suit. Sure, they have chinese knock off suits, but the cloaking might be different. Who knows? it's not really explained, but I'd just assume that it'd be too expensive to pass out to the regular Jeong. In MGSV they started wearing helemts and flak jackets over a longer period of time, and both of those are fairly standard. What could be fun though is if the under utilized MGS3 feature of food and ammo supply dumps were introduced, so if you destroy them the enemy is hungry or they run out of ammo. MGS3 also had hit detection so if you shot an enemy in the leg they'd limp around, or in the arm they wouldn't be able to fire their primary rifle and switch to a sidearm.

Heh, I remember how back in 2007 Crysis had been advertised on almost every computer- or gaming-oriented resource I'd been visiting that time, and it really brought my anticipation to highest levels since my PC obviously couldn’t run the game. Read a ton of reviews where critics were praising “the best graphics they've seen”, “Immersive gameplay mechanics (well, they probably used different adjectives as the word “immersive” wasn’t that commonly applied to gaming features)”, etc. So, after something around two years I finally got a new hardware capable of running Crysis at pretty high settings. Yeah, can’t really describe my emotions when I first got my hands on it. But I'm sure able to tell how it felt after a hour of playing. I don't know if my expectations were too high or it was because of amount of decent games I'd played, but Crysis felt to me like a complete disappointment. Sure, the graphics were beyond good but there was nothing behind it. The gameplay was dull, the environment felt too flat and uninspired, the suit features were too clunky to be used for taking advantage of enemies. Overall, the game felt like and very delicious looking donut with it’s fillings made of crap. Since that day, graphics in games became for me the most meaningless factor. But watching your video now, I think, after all these years I should give this game another chance. I see it's not perfect but maybe now I would be able to give it a credit it really deserved. Thank you for it. You are really a white light in some ways, you uncover something hidden from others in the dark. I hope this channel will live and prosper, and more people will come here, cause you make content that really should be seen and rated. Best of luck!

Few thoughts from someone who completed "korean section" of Crysis 1 over 30 times (if not more): 5:12 there is a point to changing other attachments: -when it comes to optics,reflex sight is for close engagements. Choice between assault scope and sniper scope may seem obvious in favor of sniper scope, but when you take into consideration that assault provides slightly lower magnification and takes less space on screen (so you have more awareness), it's preferable for most medium range encounters (unless you want to go for some super precise shots) -underbarrel attachments add another firing mode to your weapon, so while normally you can go between full auto and semi in single press, with an attachment going from semi to auto will take 2 presses and in some cases this might be costly. -sleeping dart is super OP, with a single shot on any part of the body you can take enemy out of fight for decent amount of time, it also works on korean nano soldiers which turns any encounter with them into a joke if you know this. While normally it recharges slowly, but when you switch fire modes it resets and it's ready to fire. Combine it with speed mode to increase rate at which you can do this and you can easily take out entire patrols with just a dart (then finish them off with melee while they sleep),in most cases it is easier and safer than using guns. What you say is only true when it comes to laser/flashlight. Laser is very usefull and has no drawbacks, while flashlight has very limited utillity, makes enemies detect you easier and negates your clock. Also suppresor doesn't lower damage but it increases damage drop off over range, which is important distinction. Damage reduction is inconsequential in close quarters. It also doesn't effect one shot headshot on standard soldiers. 5:30 Those fences can be jumped over in strength mode, so actually game doesn't force you into specific entry points (and you even say it later on). If you are quick enough you can even do this stealthy by switching into clock mid jump. Even 2'nd level base that is surrounded by minefield can be entered anywhere player wants, all it takes is shooting 2 claymore mines (unlike jumping mines they will always kill you), this will destroy fence and then you can just sprint on SPEED mode past jumping mines. Those fences and walls actually make approach easier since they block line of sight for the enemy. 6:50 Two important notes regarding difficulty. On every difficulty game restricts amount of enemies that can at one time accurately shoot at player. On every difficulty there is "mercy mode". Once player health drops past certain point, enemies give player a short break from hitting him. On one hand if player is unaware of this, barely surviving can feel great. On the other if player know this, it starts feeling very artificial. Enemies will just fail to kill player despite being capable of doing so and this might happen several times in single fight. 7:38 this is scripted, normally they use flares early on (they are slow and must be fired from certain spot, plus if you kill guy even after he shot flare, but didn't put flare pistol away trigger won't activate) or radios (as far as sync between animation and trigger they are exact opposite of flare, trigger happens even before guys starts speaking). There are also 3 exceptions, one of them is semi-bullshit, one is obvious bullshit that can be only avoided by abusing grabing
@voneror5 жыл бұрын
8:35 AI only "works" if player doesn't use cloak much.Effectivelly using cloak breaks AI. 10:10 SCAR(or FY with fire ammo)+strength mode+sniper scope in practical terms is only slightly weaker than sniper rifle/gauss in 99% of engagements and you can get single silent headshot (or dart). 10:22 ARMOR: is objectively weakest of all modes. It can tank only few shots before running out of energy. And once out of energy you either hide or die. Also 100 points of armor are not equal to 100 points of health, you have 2 times more health. Ironically best use for ARMOR is when you are in cover, as it regenerates energy fastest. CLOAK: Avoiding damage is cheaper than tanking,so it's better at keeping you alive than ARMOR. While at first drain rate when moving can feel extreme, given how littered with cover enviroment is you can cover pretty long distance (and then quickly regenerate energy with ARMOR). Also while CLOAK will drain all energy when you attack while using it, there is nothing stoping you from quickly switching back and forth while killing enemies. SPEED:. When sprinting you loose your momentum as soon as you release sprint key. This means that you can't combo it with STRENGTH for longer jumps. Ramming, while fun is very inefficent. Better way is to lauch yourself forward with speed plus jump, switch to STRENGTH and punch a guy. Only time when when ramming is preferable is when it would end up ragdolling enemy into water since it will kill him. STRENGTH:in theory it should result in one hit melee kill on standard enemies, in pracise it is somewhat inconsistant with armored ones. Most usefull at stabilazing aim, recoil reduciton is nice but it drains energy bit to fast. Throwing objects is fun, but rarely useful. Throwing soldiers into other soldiers is fun, but rarely useful. If you grab a guy and throw him, he will die no matter how far you throw them. But if you punch grabed enemy in any other mode it will still kill him, but it won't cost you energy. Sidenote 1: enemies don't take fall damage. Sidenote 2: grabing and killing by grabing is perfectly silent. On the topic of suit modes, it would be nice if there was another one just for recharging energy and health. In existing system recharging energy and fighting at the same time only works in SPEED mode, since as long you don't press sprint you won't drain any, while in other modes it is either drain by enemies (ARMOR), or by shooting/melee (STRENGTH). 15:00 apart from early section before you get to first fire, prophet excort mission is more about forcing player to defending certain spots, since enemies won't kill him as long as he is near fire. Even if he takes some damage while moving from one fire to the other, you can just go back to the last one and he will be restored to full health also ammo isn't problem, level has sufficent amount and even if you are wasteful when you meet prophet you get alien gun with infinite ammo 21:08 fun fact: you can see alien before it hits you, but camera cuts to you falling just few meters before actual contact is being made

One of my first memories in which I learned how different Crysis was started when I first approached those two guards on the beach. I had the difficulty switched to "Delta" just to see how it would be. I was at least 30 yards away standing in the open when they spotted me and instantly fired, like switch I watched my body drop in a few shots. I was genuinely surprised at not only the speed in which I was detected and killed, but also the distance which they were able to do so. Even with all of Crysis's perks and faults, it was clearly a different type of FPS and that's why I loved it! I highly enjoyed the zero-G mission because of how confusing and difficult it was. Crysis had built up my skills with the nano suit, and this mission just flipped everything I ever learned over on its head. If you felt like a rat in a maze, desperate and confused just hoping to survive long enough to find a way out then you'll know exactly what I mean. Even after I got out the remaining missions carried a sense of dread in comparison to the superiority of Act 1. Now I had to fight off the aliens which were much faster and stronger than the soldiers I was used to; not to mention the limited resources available to fight them. I wanted OFF that island because of how much I feared those things, and I treasure that experience because of it. The final level was reminiscent of watching the final act of Jurassic Park 2, after all that hell you just got out of, it still wasn't over. My first play through I did everything in the wrong order by prioritizing the larger targets before the respawning smaller ones, thus rather than killing off the small ones and focusing on the big ones before the next wave, it was complete chaos having to fend off all enemy types at once. A very challenging climax only ruined by the cheesy ending. Playing this in 2015 on the console port was a breath of fresh air. and I consider Crysis 1 to have the best gameplay arc out of any FPS I have experienced so far!

I am a fan of Crysis Wars. It is still best multi/online game to me. It is not about AI and there was no physics failure. However, they shutted down the game. I do not know, if you ever played that game, but I do now that if it would show up again, every one of us would uninstall the other multi/online games. It had big maps and we were able to use Vtols, vehicles, TAC tanks. We were setting up teams defending bases and being snipers.. I missed that game so much

Well over a year late, I feel its worth noting that crysis actually gives the aliens away during the intro skydive. Its been a while, but IIRC theres an audio cue from someone asking what the thing is, and if you look around you see a flying ceph loop in from the side to knock you out of the air.

Phenomenal video. And here I sat thinking I had already seen all high-quality game review channels (Joseph Anderson etc.). Seems like I was wrong. Also about your last point what the next game pushing the boundaries will be, I immediately thought "Star Citizen". Kind of funny how it is also running on a (highly modified) version of the CryEngine.

I remember trying Crysis years ago, hiding in a bush hundreds of metres from any enemies and taking a shot. As soon as I fired once all enemies within a few hundred metre radius immediately knew exactly where I was. The AI didn't seem to support the variety of gameplay options that it appeared to at first glance.

Crysis - still the game I used to benchmark my configs :D But seriouslly, I spent 10 000 good hours in Crysis 1 (Single Player mostly, Multiplayer till was alive and the fun Sandbox Editior). And Everytime it feels like a new thing. 46 times I finished the campaign, not to find something new, not because of some mod... simple because I love this game and it will be always there in the top for me

Crysis is one of my favorite games of all time. Even though I love Crysis could I never play through it in one go, I simply could not complete the Alien ship mission. I'm sad that there is no new Crysis Game but happy at the same time that it is a complete Trilogy. (Same with Dead Space) Crysis is also the reason why I was that "graphics over everything else" kind of guy for quite some time. My "new Crysis" is Titanfall, sure it doesn't look as good but with the sci-fi setting (which I'm always a fan of), cloak, double jump and the Titans it's the closest you can currently get like Crysis I didn't even know that a Crysis comic exists, yet I knew that Nomad died. But let's be honest that comic is pretty ridiculous at some points. Teleportation? Time travel? Are you serious??? But after watching your video and knowing that there is so much wasted potential in this game makes me a bit sad. Crytek even was my favorite Developer for some time but since they never did something like Crysis again I kind of forgot about them. Well, I'm going to watch the other Crysis videos you made and I hope everyone who reads this has a great day!

I thought the Ceph were fine as a finale event. Finales have often been difficult to pull off for open world or just open ended games because player agency and freedom also means the ability to play the game in a slow, and therefore anticlimactic, way. That’s why a lot of these types of games become more linear and simplified. In that context, I at least thought the Ceph were interesting enough visually and gameplay to still be fun. Sure, the open ended gameplay from before is gone, but stuff like the zero gravity spaceship or frozen jungle were still memorable moments. Besides, I don’t think the aliens take up the second half. Felt more like the last quarter, at most third. Maybe it’s just me playing the earlier levels much slower but I tend to blow through the alien levels much faster.

Bunka Fas Ai, which activate alarms or fire flares. In the first outpost in crysis 1, i used a suppressed rifle and sniped a guy when he went behind the house where none of the others could have seen, and they still reacted like I had just launched a rocket at his feet. Non-gaming PC builds don't require high-end graphics. The only other scenario that requires high power GFX would be CAD and Adobe CS users who will use the in-software benching tools for testing. No-one who knows what they're doing will use a poorly optimised game to bench test hardware performance

i have to point something out, halfway though the video hes taking about how if you run out of ammo during the alien part of the game you have to restart, prophet gave you a hand held lmg thing that the aliens use, its not bad once you get used to it (it has infinite ammo, but a heat mechanic like lmgs in the game) and then a minute later about the frozen part, if you quickly wiggle your mouse you can break out of it in a split second, the only time itll get you killed is if your being shot at while the freeze beam is coming for you.

I started the franchise with Crysis 2, the Crysis 1 and then the third title. It's sad to see this franchise die, even with Crysis 3 which died at launch and effectively killed any more hope for a new game, but it was also my favourite games of all time, and best in the franchise in my opinion. The franchise had tones of potential and cult value, but Crytek's odd decisions killed this franchise. Here's hope to EA or Crytek reviving or rebooting the franchise in the future!

Hey buddy, 15 minutes in and you seem to have completely missed an aspect of crysis that I only discovered in the final third of the game vs the aliens. The game is definitely worth replaying with this in mind: Maximum Strength boosts the power of your gun shots. Im not sure if you played on the hardest difficulty on your first playthrough like I did, but the games three phases (infiltration, all out war, then alien invasion) all taught me very distinct styles of play. I felt forced to adopt and learn how to abuse the suits mechanics if i wanted any chance of surviving. For the aliens in the game it becomes about gaining position with a speed and strength jump (using speed to run forward, switching to strength to jump high (the momentum from speed takes you very far with the strength jump) taking your shots and then switching to armour if needed and otherwise just speed to cover while your energy comes back. You've went over how as the game progresses you end up fluidly switching between and combining aspects of the nanosuits abilities, but you seem to have missed the most powerful combination by not discovering that strength enhances your shots on hardest difficulty. While learning the game I was so reliant on stealth for about the first third until I got more weapons and more comfortable with the mechanics. After that it was combining speed, strength and stealth to take the fight to the soldiers. However the removal of stealth as an option forced new strategies which then you can apply to subsequent playthroughs and become an absolute monster of a soldier. When you are invisible and you break stealth by shooting you lose all energy (or at least down to 20 from memory) however if you turn of stealth into strength you will 1 shot any enemy that isn't in a nano suit, use 10 energy to fire the enhanced shot, and then be able to instantly turn on stealth again. You essentially become predator. This combination is so goddamn broken that all subsequent playthroughs of the game i've heavily limited my use of stealth or else the game becomes far too easy.

I think Battlefield: Bad Company is actually quite a bit like Crysis, but better. Open maps with multiple objectives you can do the way you want, destructible environments that factor heavily into the gameplay, getting to jump into all sorts of vehicles scattered about the map, and a squad to do it all with that has a lot more character.

I liked the aliens. For me, their appearance broke the monotony of doing the same base-storming missions over and over again. Additionally, after having been on a little power fantasy, you get a massive "OH SHIT" moment once they show up. The ship level was pretty tense due to how... well, _alien_ it felt, zero-gravity helping the "fish out of water" context. The argument about philosophy is good, but I'd argue that giving no explanations about the aliens is better. Who are you to say we could even understand what aliens would want with us, or why they're here? Personally, I'd say that Crysis's story was far more interesting than that of Crysis 2.

There are hints at a far larger story for Crysis 1 that has nothing to do with Crysis 2 in the files locked inside the Crysis demo. That's where the rumors of the last part of the game being cut down to do development times/cost come from, as the details in the files largely match up to the final game, up until around the aliens take over. As someone that loved Crysis, warts and all, I can't help but loath C2. It's got interesting ideas, but it destroyed far too much of the game I loved in the process. And C3 never had the development time to needed fix anything with the setup it was given (the writer tried his best to try and tie its story to both 2 and 1 and try to make a cohesive whole, but Crysis 2 drastic departures makes that almost impossible).

While I did understand the hype back in 2007-2010 for the Very High visuals, the "Can it Run Crysis" meme never really made sense for me. As long as you had PC hardware from 2002 (Pixel Shader 2.0, 128 MB VRAM, 512 MB ram), you could run Crysis at Low, 640x480 with 20-30 fps. To this day, few if any games have managed to make a stealth shooter look and feel as good as this. The story and character development were balls. I still dont get why they kept doing the second half thing with something alien... they got criticism for that with the very first Far Cry (yes they orginally started the Far Cry franchise) and that game involved mutants and stuff that while interesting made for some pretty horrible gameplay with one hit you die enemies jumping around in the night. Why not keep killing the korean general for later... let you participate with an invasion of the island with raptor team (well whats left of them at that point) and push trough some enviroments with soldiers and such. Warcry did a little bit of that but I think they could have balanced some late game D-day esque stuff of pushing into enemy territory alongside armour and aircrafts with some assassination missions of the enemy leadership bringing back the full tactical/slower paced gameplay with open enviroment while battles unfold in the distant. Yes they have to introduce the overarching enemy at some point but I honestly feel that did not have to take up the entire second half at all. This is where your idea of making noise or triggering fire fights across frosen tundras/jungle could be included that if you do to much you have to engage these enemies or something. Or you got to see them attacking your allies but not having to engage them really yourself would have solved some issues. Anyhow still a great game and its expansion is to. As a note I think Mass Effect really did the whole the villain isnt really who you think he is at first plot probably the best thus far. I really love how they set up this amazing front villain and side characters while hiding the puppet master all the way. And slowly revealing them and the difficulties for you to be believed warning about them. I still think towards game 2s end it became a bit to silly surely they would have reacted by that point. And with game 3 we got to see the power they had an entire galaxy in ruins.. for its ending flaws that game had one of the best tones to it I have felt while playing. The sadness, the ending of the world sort of feel they really managed to make me immerse into that and as a contrast I think this is as you put it where Crysis failed. In Mass Effect the Reapers had a purposse not fully revealed, remained a mystery troughout the game and revealed close to the ending when you get to speak to it and later fight it. The way the paced and built up to that end fight with Saren and Sovereign was memorable to say the least. Im hoping if they ever make Crysis 4 that they take the first part of Crysis gameplay concepts take some ideas from story leaders in the industry and tie next gen visuals with some decent story telling and more open esque world building. Instead of forcing us to watch michael bay moments... let us direct them instead. Allow the enviroment to be destructible with lots of ways of access and tools to engage. That way they dont have to do these bubble-->corridor---->bubble esque design.
